The Results of Primary Repair in Acute Injuries of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (후방 십자 인대 급성 손상에서 일차 복원술의 결과)

  • Background: We analyze the functional evaluation, posterior stability after surgery of acute injuries in the femoral detachment and tibial avulsion fracture of posterior cruciate ligament. Materials and Methods: Twenty two patients who underwent primary repair were followed more than one year after operation (mean follow-up 33.7 months). The patients were evaluated with KT 2000 arthrometer and posterior stress test for posterior stability. Lysholm knee score was used for knee function. Results: Lysholm score revealed 85.3 in femoral detachment group and 91.1 in tibial avulsion fracture group (P<0.05). Posterior displacement of the posterior stress test showed 17.2 mm at initial injury and 8.6 mm at last follow up in femoral detachment group, 16.8 mm at initial injury and 7.1 mm at last follow up in tibial avulsion fracture group. There revealed the tendency of the improved posterior stability of the tibial avulsion group compared with femoral detachment group, but there showed no statistical significance in KT 2000 arthrometer and posterior stress x-ray. Conclusion: Functional results of tibial avulsion fracture group revealed the better outcome compared with femoral detachment group, but the degree of posterior stability in tibial avulsion fracture group showed no statistical significance in posterior stability.

Automatic Film Restoration Using Distributed Genetic Algorithm (분산 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 자동 필름 복원)

  • In recent years, a film restoration has gained increasing attention by many researchers, to support multimedia service of high quality. In general, an old film is degraded by dust, scratch, flick, and so on. Among these, the common factors are scratch and blotch, so that many researchers have been investigated to restore these degradations. However, the methods in literature have one major limitation: A method is working well in dealing with scratches, however it is poorly working in processing the blotches. The goal of this work is to develop a robust technique to restore images degraded by both scratches and blotches. For this, we use MRF-MAP (Markov random field - maximum a posteriori) framework, so that the restoration problem is considered as the minimization problem of the posteriori energy function. As the minimization is one of complex combinatorial problem, we use distributed genetic algorithms (DGAs) that effectively deal with combinatorial problems. To asses the validity of the proposed method, it was tested on natural old films and artificially degraded films, and the results were compared with other methods. Then, the results show that the proposed method is superior to other methods.

  • 많은 경우, 부분 손상된 얼굴 영상을 복원해야 할 필요가 있다. 대표적인 예로는 감시카메라에 찍힌 범인의 얼굴 영상이 이에 속한다. 이런 경우 얼굴의 중요한 부분이 가려져 있기 때문에 자동 얼굴 인식 시스템이나 사람의 관찰로는 그 부분을 인식하기는 매우 어렵다. 이 논문에서는 어려움을 극복하기 위해 새롭게 개발된 SVDD기반 노이즈 제거 기법을 부분 손상된 얼굴 영상에 적용한 문제를 고려해 보았다.

Repair of Plasma Damaged Low-k Film in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (초임계이산화탄소를 이용한 플라즈마 손상된 다공성 저유전 막질의 복원)

  • Repair reaction of plasma damaged porous methyl doped SiOCH films was carried out with silylation agents dissolved in supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$) at various reaction time, pressure, and temperature. While a decrease in the characteristic bands at $3150{\sim}3560cm^{-1}$ was detectable, the difference of methyl peaks was not identified apparently in the FT-IR spectra. The surface hydrophobicity was rapidly recovered by the silylation. In order to induce effective repair in bulk phase, the wafer was heat treated before reaction under vacuum or ambient condition. The contact angle was slightly increased after the treatment and completely recovered after the subsequent silylation. Methyl groups were decreased after the plasma damage, but their recovery was not identified apparently from the FT-IR, spectroscopic ellipsometry, and secondary ion mass spectroscopy analyses. Furthermore, Ti evaporator was performed in a vacuum chamber to evaluate the pore sealing effect. The GDS analysis revealed that the open pores in the plasma damaged films were efficiently sealed with the silylation in $scCO_2$.

  • The studios on the stability of damaged ships have been carried out continuously to prevent frequent damages or sinkings which cause large loss of life and fortunes. For dry cargo ships, continuing losses have resulted in new legislation of the probabilistic damage stability. IMO has developed requirements for the subdivison and damage stability of dry cargo ships based on probabilistic concepts. The calculation of the probabilistc damage stability is a complicated and iterative job hence development of computer programs is indispensable. In this research, programming of the probabilistic damage stability according to new requirements has been done and the results were compared with those carried out by the other foreign packages. New algorithm using a grid model in a transversal section was introduced to reduce efforts in preparing input data for damage scenarios and as a result, has brought significant improvement in efficiency and performance.

  • 네트워크를 통한 영상 데이터 전송 시 에러가 발생하면 복원 영상의 화질 열화는 매우 심각하다. 따라서, 에러 영상을 복원하기 위한 에러 은닉 기술은 복호기 쪽에 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 매크로블록이 움직임 벡터와 함께 손상이 되었을 때 주변 매크로블록의 움직임 벡터를 이용한 빠르고 효율적인 에러 은닉 기법을 제안한다. 실험 결과 에러 은닉 기법을 제안한다. 실험 결과 에러 블록 주변의 경계화소를 이용한 기존의 방법과 비교하여 거의 동등한 복원 화질을 얻으면서도 에러 은닉을 위한 처리 시간을 획기적으로 단축하였다.

  • In numerous occasions, there is need to reconstruct partially occluded facial image. Typical examples include the recognition of criminals whose facial images are captured by surveillance cameras- ln such cases a significant part of the face is occluded making the process of identification extremely difficult, both for automatic face recognition systems and human observers. To overcome these difficulties, we consider the application of Kernel PCA-based denoising method to partially occluded facial image in this paper.

Recovering Corrupted Motion Vectors Using Edge Direction (경계 방향성을 이용한 손상된 움직임 벡터의 복원 기법)

  • In wireless communication systems, transmission errors degrade the reconstructed image quality severely. Among various techniques which reduce the degradation, the error concealment technique yields good performance without overheads and the modification of the encoder. In this paper, we have proposed the technique for recovering the corrupted motion vector using the edge direction of blocks which surround the corrupted block, when the video information is compressed by H.263 standard. We uses the property that each object in video sequences shows the same motion. For the estimation of edge directions, the first AC coefficients of blocks are used. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed technique yields good performance with a reduced computational complexity.

Precise Deterioration Diagnosis and Restoration Stone Suggestion of Jungdong and Banjukdong Stone Aquariums in Gongju, Korea (공주 중동 및 반죽동 석조의 정밀 손상도 진단과 복원석재 제안)

  • This study focus on the restoration stone selection of break-out part based on material characteristics analysis and the conservational safety diagnosis using various nondestructive techniques for Jungdong and Banjukdong Stone Auariums. As a result, the original rocks of the stone aquariums body are porphyritic granodiorite with magnetite-series having igneous lineation, microcline phenocryst, veinlet and basic xenolith. As a result of the provenance presumption of the host rock, a rock around Gamgokri area in Nonsan City was identified the genetically same rock. Therefore, the rock is appropriate for restoration materials of the break-out part. The deterioration assessment showed that the stone aquariums were highly serious scaling, scale off and blackening. Particularly, the front face of Banjukdong stone aquarium needs reinforcement of structural crack (760mm) caused from igneous lineation of biotite. Blackening contaminants on the stone aquariums surface occurred by combining iron oxide, manganese oxide and clay mineral. Also, major factors of efflorescence contaminants were identified as calcite (Jungdong stone aquariums) and gypsum (Banjukdong stone aquariums). The physical characteristics of stone aquariums appeared that the original and new stone is third (moderately weathered) and second grade (slightly weathered), respectively. This study sets up an integrated conservation system from material analysis to restoration stone selection and conservational safety diagnosis of Jungdong and Banjukdong stone aquariums.
