Optimal Surveillance Trajectory Planning for Illegal UAV Detection for Group UAV using Particle Swarm Optimization (불법드론 탐지를 위한 PSO 기반 군집드론 최적화 정찰궤적계획)

  • The use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have been regarded as a promising technique in both military and civilian applications. Nevertheless, due to the lack of relevant and regulations and laws, the misuse of illegal drones poses a serious threat to social security. In this paper, aiming at deriving the three-dimension optimal surveillance trajectories for group monitoring drones, we develop a group trajectory planner based on the particle swarm optimization and updating mechanism. Together, to evaluate the trajectories generated by proposed trajectory planner, we propose a group-objectives fitness function in accordance with energy consumption, flight risk. The simulation results validate that the group trajectories generated by proposed trajectory planner can preferentially visit important areas while obtaining low energy consumption and minimum flying risk value in various practical situations.

A QoS-Aware Energy Optimization Technique for Smartphone GPUs (QoS를 고려한 스마트폰 GPU의 에너지 최적화 기법)

  • We proposed a novel energy optimization technique for smartphone GPUs, more aggressively lowering the GPU frequency while obtaining higher energy efficiency with a negligible negative impact on the GPU performance. In order to achieve the Quality of Service (QoS) specified by the smartphone application, the proposed optimization technique employed the minimal acceptable GPU frequency based on average Frames per Second (FPS) for each GPU frequency level. Our experimental results on a smartphone development board showed that the proposed technique can reduce the GPU energy consumption by up to 23% over the default DVFS algorithm with only a 0.45 frame drop.

  • In the paper, we propose an energy efficient sensor network management scheme. In the proposed scheme, the modified game theory and ${\varepsilon}$-constraint techniques are sophisticatedly combined to establish energy efficient routing paths. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can strike an appropriate performance balance between conflicting requirements while other existing schemes cannot offer such an attractive performance.

  • Recent advances in sensor network technology have open up challenges for its effective routing. Routing protocol receives most of the attention because routing protocols might differ depending on the application and network architecture. In the rapidly changing environment and dynamic nature of network formation efficient routing and energy consumption are very crucial. Sensor networks differ from the traditional networks in terms of energy consumption. Thus, data-centric technologies should be used to perform routing to yield an energy-efficient dissemination. By exploiting the advantages of both ant colony optimization techniques in network routing and the ability of data centric muting to organize data for delivery, our approach will cover features for building an efficient autonomous sensor network.

Process Optimization of Red Pepper Drying for the Improvement of Drying Efficiency (건조효율 향상을 위한 고추건조공정의 최적화)

  • Drying process in a fixed bed red pepper dryer was modeled and simulated. Drying efficiency describing the effectiveness of energy usage in red pepper drying was defined as a ratio of energy used for moisture evaporation to total energy consumption, and expressed in combination of measurable temperature variables. The efficiency was compared with real evaporative efficiency and tested in the simulated and experimental drying. An overall drying efficiency was derived, and analyzed for various control variables consisting of drying temperature, air recycle ratio and air flow rate. Optimal operation conditions of drying was then searched by Box's complex method by using it as an objective function. Carotenoids retention was simulated and put as a constraint of product quality in the optimization. The optimization results gave that two staged drying operation could improve the ding efficiency compared with single staged drying. As a technique for further energy saving automatic termination of drying appeared feasible by monitoring an exit air temperature from dryer.

  • 열공급 대상지역의 연간 열부하를 예측하여 분석한 후 지역난방용 열병합발전 시스템에서 스팀터빈의 고압 및 저압터빈의 용량을 변화시켜 열부하 대상지역에서 운전하였을시 가장 적은 에너지를 소비하는 고압 및 저압터빈의 용량비율을 찾아 보았다. 추기배압터빈일 경우는 각 터빈용량의 비율변화에 거의 영향을 받지 않았으며 추기복수터빈일 경우 고압터빈용량의 비율이 적을수록 동일 열부하에 대한 에너지소비량은 적게 나타났으며 발전량은 증가되었다.

  • Recently many efforts have been carried out on the development of energy-efficient and environment-friendly systems in order to preserve natural environment and to reduce environmental loads in the branch of the urban planning and the building design. In this study, a mathematical method was developed and a numerical analysis was carried out with various parameters to provide substantial data for optimal design and operation of urban energy supply systems. Components of the system and their specifications, such as a co-generation system and other heating and cooling systems, could be obtained through this analysis for various resource and energy requirements in urban area. In this study, the system constituents and operating characteristics, and their economic performances such as the value of objective function, the amount of energy consumption were discussed for various load patterns and power load ratios. Also, it turns out that the optimal energy supply system can save energy by $10{\sim}20%$ in comparison with the conventional energy supply system.

  • In the point of view of a train operator, the main concern with a train operation is not only to maintain a time schedule, but also to decrease the energy consumption as much as possible. Generally for a manual drive, a train conductor controls the train acceleration and deceleration by controlling the notches not to exceed the regulation velocity by considering the given maximum velocity profile for an operation route. For this case, the guideline for a conductor is needed to choose the proper notches by applying the notch optimization so as to drive at the regulation velocity and minimize energy consumption simultaneously. In this paper, the real-time notch optimization plan is suggested using a genetic algorithm that optimizes the notches for the remaining route in real time when the event occurs that track information or regulation velocity profile of the remaining route changes during train operation as well as a normal operation situation. An energy saving effect and the convergence behavior of the optimal solution obtained was analyzed in a genetic algorithm.

  • In Smart mobile devices embedding big.LITTLE architectures, the conventional multi-core assignment scheme for user applications may incur wasteful energy consumption and long response time. In this paper, we propose a user experience assisted energy-efficient multicore assignment scheme. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves at 40% less energy consumption and at 20% less response time comparing to the legacy scheme.
