Using four components - nonionic surfactants, water, hydrocarbon oil and an alcohol as cosurfactant, 12 types of cleaning agents were prepared, and their physical properties such as surface tension, viscosity, electroconductivity and phase stability were measured. As the formulated cleaning agents have low surface tensions(30.5-31.1 dyne/cm) and low viscosities (1.6-7.2 c.p.), they are satisfied with the general physical properties of water-in-oil(W/O) microemulsions for their industrial use. They showed a tendency that their temperature range for stable one-phase microemulsion decreased in accordance with the increase of alcohol/surfactant(A/S) ratio in the formulations. However, the temperature range of one-phase microemulsion was much more affected by hydrophilic lipophillic balance(HLB) value of the nonionic surfactant which increased its temperature range and it increased in accordance with the higher HLB value in the formulations. And the maximum content of water which can keep stable one-phase W/O microemulsion was measured at each sample. In addition, their temperature range for stable one-phase microemulsion was also measured. It was confirmed that the selection of surfactant type was very important for formulating a cleaning agent, since the W/O microemulsion system with the nonionic surfactant of the lower HLB value showed better cleaning efficacy that of the higher HLB value for abietic acid as a soil, which was used for preparing a rosin-type flux. In the formulated cleaning agents with the increase of A/S ratio in the formulations, however, there was no significant difference in cleaning efficacy. It was investigated that the differences of their cleaning efficacy was affected by the change of the condition of temperature and sonicating frequency as important factors in the industrial cleaning. That is, the higher, their cleaning temperature and the lower, their sonicating frequency, the more increased, their cleaning efficacy. Furthermore, using optical instruments like UV/Visable Spectrophotometer and FT-IR Spectrometer, their cleaning efficacy for abietic acid was measured. The removal of soil from the contaminated rinse water was measured by gravity separation method in the rinse bath. As a result, the cleaning agent system having the nonionic surfactant of HLB value 6.4 showed over 85% water-oil separation efficacy at over $25^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was demonstrated in this work that the formulating cleaning agents were very effective for cleaning and economical in the possible introduction of water recycling system.

According to the Montreal Protocol, CFC 113, one of the ozone-depleting substances, will be prohibited to use as a cleaning solvent essentially in the electronic industry. Therefore, the development of the alternative cleaning solvents to CFC 113 is being accelerated. A number of the alternative cleaning solvents are avialable on the market. The alternatives of Axarel 32(DuPont), Cleanthru 750H(KAO Chemical), and EC-Ultra(Petroferm) are chosen for the comparison of cleaning performance with CFC 113. The test methods for measuring the cleaning performance were composed of the measurement of the physical properties, the experiments on the material compatibility with cleaning solvents, the measurement of the evaporation rate, and finally the experiments of the removal efficiency. Normally the basic physical properties of the alternatives had higher boiling points, viscosity and surface tension, which were quite different to those of CFC 113. In terms of solubility of rosin-based flux, the solubilities of abietic acid (nonpolar organic) were similar, but those of the activator (polar organic) in the alternatives were better than CFC 113. The evaporation of the alternatives was very slow, compared to CFC 113, which had much lower boiling point. All the cleaning solvents showed the good material compatibility with FR4 and Cu-coated PCB. The better removal efficiencies of abietic acid were obtained when using the ultrasonic mechanical energy over the dipping method. The experiments also indicated the very slow-eavaporating solvent was not desirable with the dipping cleaning method, and the differences in the removal efficiency of the alternatives with the ultrasonic cleaning method were negligible. Among the alternatives, the overall cleaning performances were obsorved as almost similar. Before selecting the ultimate cleaning solvent, the application of cleaning machine, environmental issues, and economics are simultaneously considered with the cleaning performance.

Zeolite A helps an increase of detergency performance according to showing the ion exchange effect for polyvalant ions and it's detergency performance could be calculated quantitatively by using the disperse stabilization theory because it is water-insoluble material and is as colloid particles in aqueous solution. In this study, zeta potential of carbon black, cellulose, and Zeolite A were measured in each inorganic salt solutions and applied to the theory of Heterocoagulation in order to evaluate the detergency performance of Zeolite A about the particulate soil at the view point of interaction potential energy. Zeolite A was shown help an increase of detergency performance according to the increasing of the steric repulsion between Zeolite A and cellulose in $Na2CO_3$ solution and the decrease of re-deposition of carbon black on the fabric by rapid coagulation with carbon black in $Na_2SO_4$ solution.
Pelletizer of dry ice snow produced by adiabatic expansion of liquid carbon dioxide and their blaster were designed and manufactured. The blaster had a high cleaning power against various contaminants on the surface such as stain, oily dirt, lacquer film and paints with low blasting pressure and low consumption of blasting air. The capacity of hopper for dry ice pellet supply was 12 kg and the mass rate of pellet blasting was controlled in 0 to 1.2 kg/min. The impact of the pellets was independent of standoff distance within a certain limiting distance, and dependent on the impact stress, angle and mass rate of dry ice pellet blasting. On the other hand the cleaning power was influenced by thermal properties and surface roughness of the substrates and decreased in the order of glass, copper, brass, steel and acryl. The power was also affected by hardness and adhesion of the contaminant on the substrate, and decreased in the order of grease, epoxy and paint. The noise was detected during blasting in the range of 85 to 100dBA.

In this study, removal of OCA and organic impurities for recycling LCD touch panel glass was conducted by mechanical and chemical dissolution methode. Cut mill and oscillation mill were used for mechanical crushing of touch panel, and water, ethanol, dichloromethane were used to remove OCA and organic impurities. As a result of TGA, when applied only dicloromethane in the process, the efficiency of organic removal was to be best. In addition, removal effect of organic impurities increased as the cleaning temperature increased. As a result of zeta potential analysis to confirm the dispersion degree of touch panel glass in the solvent, the absolute value of the zeta potenial of water with the lowest cleaning effect was lower than other solvents, and it was confirmed that efficiency of organic removal is affected not only by the chemical dissolution properties but also the physical dispersion properties in the solvent.

Purpose : The surfactant dysfunction may play an important role in meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). We aim to evaluate the effect of surfactant lavage in the treatment of term infants with MAS. Methods : The medical records of 15 neonates with severe MAS admitted at Yongdong Severance Hospital from 2005 to 2007 were reviewed and analyzed. Seven infants with severe MAS necessitating mechanical ventilation underwent tracheobronchial lavage with 20 mL/kg of diluted (5.3 mg phospholipid/mL) surfactant saline suspension ($Newfactan^{(R)}$). Data regarding clinical outcomes was assessed by comparison with 8 control infants with equally severe MAS retrospectively. Results : In the lavage group, radiological improvement was evident after 6 hours of treatment. The duration of artificial ventilation and duration of hospital day were also significantly shorten in the lavage group compared with the control group. The mean oxygen index, mean ventilation index improved significantly within the first 6 hours after treatment. No differences were found in the incidence of major complications and mortality between the two groups. Conclusion : The surfactant lavage seems to be an effective and safe method for treatment of severe MAS. A multicenter, large scaled randomized controlled trial is needed for further study.
