Our domestic economy has been developed very rapidly after 1960's. Also, it is dramatically increasing traffic on road and surround environmental issues. Especially, rapid economic growth has been induced large construction of pavement, and bigger and higher traffic for transportation. These are making air pollution, traffic noise and vibration. The social requirement against the revealed road environment and traffic sound reduction is being demanded. Traffic noise of city zone is showed over the environmental specification more than 57%. In order to overcome these situations, the social attention is being increased. The quiet pavement is the same format of permeable pavement, but is not same for functional performance. In this research, it has been carried out to evaluate the fundamental-mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt for quiet pavement. Especially, couple of laboratory tests are conducted like marshall stability, resilient modulus, indirect tensile test, and compaction energy analysis with gyratory compaction curve. Also, two-layer pavement system has been adopted for developing of quiet pavement. The basic performance of hot mix asphalt of quiet pavement show a satisfaction of specification of hot mix asphalt.
Contact area and pressure are important factors which directly influence a life of knee implants. Since implant's mechanical functions should be experimentally evaluated for clinical use, many studies using a knee simulator and a pressure sensor system have been conducted. However it has not been reported that the contact pressure's distribution of a knee implant motion was estimated in real-time during a gate cycle. Therefore. the objective of this study was to analyze the contact pressure distribution for the motion of a joint using the knee simulator and I-scan sensor system. For this purpose, we developed a force-controlled dynamic knee simulator to evaluate the mechanical performance of artificial knee joint. This simulator includes a function of a soft tissue and has a 4-degree-of-freedom to represent an axial compressive load and a flexion angle. As axial compressive force and a flexion angle of the femoral component can be controlled by PC program. The pressure is also measured from I-scan system and simulator to visualize the pressure distribution on the joint contact surfaces under loading condition during walking cycle. The compressive loading curve was the major cause for the contact pressure distribution and its center move in a cycle as to a flexion angie. In conclusion, this system can be used to evaluate to the geometric interaction of femoral and tibial design due to a measured mechanical function such as a contact pressure, contact area and a motion of a loading center.

The objective of this study is the development of carbon-recycle technology, that converts carbon dioxide captured from flue gas to carbon monoxide or carbon for reuse in industrial fields. It is difficult to decompose $CO_2$ because $CO_2$ is very stable molecule. And then metal oxide was used as an activation agent or catalyst for the decomposition of $CO_2$ at low temperature. Metal oxides, which converts $CO_2$ to CO or C, were prepared using Ni-ferrite by solid state method and hydrothermal synthesis in this study. TPR/TPO and TGA were used as an analysis method to analyze the decomposition characteristics of $CO_2$. As the results, the reduction area of $H_2$ was high value at 15 wt% of NiO and the decomposition area of $CO_2$ was superior capacity at 5 wt% of NiO. However, TGA data showed contrary results that reduction area of $H_2$ was 28.47wt% and oxidation area by $CO_2$ was 26.95wt% at 2.5 wt% of NiO, one of the Ni-ferrite powders synthesized using solid state method. $CO_2$ decomposition efficiency was 94.66% and it is excellent results in comparison with previous studies.
A girder height limitation is the critical parameter for rapid construction of bridge deck and construction space limitation especially in urban area such as high population area and high density habitats. A standard post-tensioned I-shaped concrete girder usually demands relatively higher girder height in order to retain sufficient moment arm between compression force and tensile force. To elaborate this issue, a small U-shaped section with wide flanges can be used as a possible replacement of I-shaped standard girder. This prestressed concrete box girder allows more flexible girder height adjustment rather than standard I-shaped post-tensioned girder plus additional torsion resistance benefits of closed section. A 30m-long, 1.7m-high and 3.63m-wide actual small prestressed concrete box girder is designed and a laboratory test for its static behaviors by applying 6,200kN amount of load in the form of 4-point bending test was performed. The load-deflection curve and crack patterns at different loading stage are recorded. In addition, to extracting the dynamic characteristics such as natural frequency and damping ratio of this girder, several excitation tests with artificial mechanical exciter with un-symmetric mass are carried out using operational frequency sweep-up. Nonlinear finite element analysis of this 4 point bending test under monotonic static load is investigated and discussed with aids of concrete damaged plasticity formulation using ABAQUS program.
Error characteristics of a mirror loss measurement system using an exponential decay method were studied, with the two samples having about 200-ppm-loss and 30-ppm-loss, respectively. In order to minimize the decay signal deviation from an exponential curve due to cavity length fluctuation, a data average method was tried. The data average method significantly improved the exponential curve fitting error of the decay signal, so that for a 6 decay signal data average the loss measurement error was reduced by about 2.4 times for the 200-ppm-loss mirror and 1.3 times for the 30-ppm-loss mirror compared with a single shot measurement. Day-to-day mirror loss repeatability error for the two samples was investigated. The repeatability error was measured to be about 5% for the 200-ppm-loss mirror and about 26.4% for the 30-ppm-loss mirror. Low decay signal average effect and high repeatability error in the low loss mirror measurement were explained with non-uniform spatial loss distribution of the sample and contamination from the environment, in addition to the error sources of the mirror loss measurement system itself. The influence of cavity length fluctuation and cavity length measurement error on the mirror loss measurement system performance was theoretically calculated. It confirmed that the requirement for the cavity length parameters was not so strict in the mirror loss measurement system of several ppm resolution. ution.

In recent years, numerous train derailment accidents caused by deterioration and high speed technology of railways have increased. Guardrails or barriers of railway bridges are installed to restrain and prevent the derailment of the train body level. On the other hand, it can result in a high casualties and secondary damage. Therefore, a Derailment Containment Provision (DCP) within the track at the wheel/bogie level was developed. DCP is designed for rapid installation because it reduces the impact load on the barrier and inertia force on the steep curve to minimize turnover, fall, and trespass on the other side track of the bridge. In this paper, DCP was analyzed using LS-Dyna with a parameter study as the impact loading location and interface contact condition. The contact conditions were analyzed using the Tiebreak contact simulating breakage of material properties and Perfect bond contact assuming fully attached. As a result, the Tiebreak contact behaved similarly with the actual behavior. In addition, the maximum displacement and flexural failure was generated on the interface and DCP center, respectively. The impact analysis was carried out in advance to confirm the DCP design due to the difficulties of performing the actual impact test, and it could change the DCP anchor design as the analysis results.

In this study, we present a decision function of optimal smoothing parameter for baseline correction using Asymmetrically reweighted penalized least squares (arPLS). Baseline correction is very important due to influence on performance of spectral analysis in application of spectroscopy. Baseline is often estimated by parameter selection using visual inspection on analyte spectrum. It is a highly subjective procedure and can be tedious work especially with a large number of data. For these reasons, an objective procedure is necessary to determine optimal parameter value for baseline correction. The proposed function is defined by modeling the median value of possible parameter range as the length and order of the background signal. The median value increases as the length of the signal increases and decreases as the degree of the signal increases. The simulated data produced a total of 112 signals combined for the 7 lengths of the signal, adding analytic signals and linear and quadratic, cubic and 4th order curve baseline respectively. According to the experimental results using simulated data with linear, quadratic, cubic and 4th order curved baseline, and real Raman spectra, we confirmed that the proposed function can be effectively applied to optimal parameter selection for baseline correction using arPLS.

This paper reports the process of seismic fragility analysis for the rahman-type continuous bridge system. The target structure was the five span highway bridge with maximum pier hight of 72m. OpenSees software was used for the nonlinear time history analysis. In this study, 50 ground motions are considered for nonlinear time history analysis. For each ground motion, PGA was scaled from 0.1g to 2.0g with intervals of 0.1g in order to consider a wide range of the seismic intensity measure. In addition, yield displacement and ultimate displacement of each pier were calculated through section analysis. Based on the result of non linear time history analysis and section analysis, damage condition of target bridge was classified according to the definition of damage condition proposed by Barbat et al. As a result, it was predicted that Extensive Damage occurred at P1 when 0.731 g earthquake occurred in the longitudinal direction. Based on the seismic fragility analysis results, it is found that the probability of occurrence of Extensive Damage in the 4,800 - year period earthquake was about 4.2%. Therefore the target bridge has enough safety for earthquake.
The importance of subsurface information is becoming crucial in urban area due to increase of underground construction. The position of underground facilities should be identified precisely before excavation work. Geophyiscal exporation method such as ground penetration radar (GPR) can be useful to investigate the subsurface facilities. GPR transmits electromagnetic waves to the ground and analyzes the reflected signals to determine the location and depth of subsurface facilities. Unfortunately, the readability of GPR signal is not favorable. To overcome this deficiency and automate the GPR signal processing, deep learning technique has been introduced recently. The accuracy of deep learning model can be improved with abundant training data. The ground is inherently heteorogeneous and the spacially variable ground properties can affact on the GPR signal. However, the effect of ground heterogeneity on the GPR signal has yet to be fully investigated. In this study, ground heterogeneity is simulated based on the fractal theory and GPR simulation is carried out by using gprMax. It is found that as the fractal dimension increases exceed 2.0, the error of fitting parameter reduces significantly. And the range of water content should be less than 0.14 to secure the validity of analysis.

Soil conditioning improves the performance of EPB (earth pressure balance) shield TBMs (tunnel boring machines) by reducing shear strength, enhancing workability of the excavated soil, and supporting the tunnel face during EPB tunnelling. The mechanical and rheological behavior of the excavated muck mixed with additives should be properly evaluated to determine the optimal additive injection condition corresponding to each ground type. In this study, the laboratory pressurized vane test apparatus equipped with a vane-shaped rheometer was developed to reproduce the pressurized condition in the TBM chamber and quantitively evaluate rheological properties of the soil specimens. A series of the pressurized vane tests were performed for an artificial sand soil by changing foam injection ratio (FIR) and polymer injection ratio (PIR), which are the injection parameters of the foam and the polymer, respectively. In addition, the workability of the conditioned soil was evaluated through the slump test. The peak and yield stresses of the conditioned soil with respect to the injection parameters were evaluated through the rheogram, which was derived from the measured torque data in the pressurized vane test. As FIR increased or PIR decreased, the workability of the conditioned soil increased, and the maximum torque, peak stress, and yield stress decreased. The peak stress and yield stress of the specimen from the laboratory pressurized vane test correspond to the workability evaluated by the slump tests, which implies the applicability of the proposed test for evaluating the rheological properties of excavated soil.
