  • The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of resilience in the relationship between stigma and quality of life (QOL) in lung cancer patients. Participants were 119 lung cancer patients who visited the outpatient department of a hospital. The subjects completed a questionnaire of stigma, resilience and QOL. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation, three-step regressions to test mediating effect and Sobel test. Stigma was negatively correlated with resilience and QOL. Resilience was positively correlated with QOL. Stigma explained 15.0% of the variance of resilience. Stigma and resilience explained 41.0% of the variance of QOL. Resilience had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between stigma and QOL. The results suggest that a nursing intervention to decrease stigma and enhance resilience is recommended to improve QOL in lung cancer patients.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare fatigue, stress and quality of sleep between good sleep quality and poor sleep quality. Fatigue, stress and quality of sleep were assessed using three questionnaires; fatigue severity scale(FSS), Perceived stress scale(PSS), and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQL). As a result of the study, the higher stress(22.2 vs. 19.0, p=.000) and poorer quality of sleep(11.2 vs. 5.7, p=.000) were observed between good sleep quality and poor sleep quality groups. Our finding show that time of going to bed and stress level influenced quality of sleep.

  • The present study was to investigate the mediating and moderating effects of self-acceptance on the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and peer relationship quality in adolescents. Two hundred and sixty-one middle school students were surveyed. The results were as follows. First, self-acceptance had a full mediation effect on the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and peer relationship quality. That is, peer relationship quality was only indirectly affected by perfectionistic self-presentation through self-acceptance. Second, self-acceptance had a significant moderating effect in the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and peer relationship quality. Perfectionistic self-presentation did not have a statistically significant impact on peer relationship quality in the group with low self-acceptance, but it did in the group with high self-acceptance. Therefore, this study suggests the need for counseling and educational approaches to improve adolescents self-acceptance by verifying the effect of self-acceptance in perfectionistic self-presentation and peer relationships.
