  • Depending on geographical features and error sources in the survey field, inaccurate data is inevitable in GPS kinematic survey for positioning with feature codes. In this study, the trimmed mean and the first order differential equation are used to develop an inaccurate positioning data detection algorithm, and a cubic spline curve and a linear polynomial are used to interpolate the inaccurate data. Based on interpolated data, a digital map for 30 km range of rural highway is produced and a corresponding GIS coverage map is obtained by analyzing and solving the problem associated with the map.

  • A frame rate up-conversion scheme is needed when moving pictures with a low frame rate is played on appliances with a high frame rate. Frame rate up-conversion methods interpolate the frame with two consecutive frames of the original source. This can be divided into the frame repetition method and motion estimation-based the frame interpolation one. Frame repetition has very low complexity, but it can yield jerky artifacts. The interpolation method based on a motion estimation and compensation can be divided into pixel or block interpolation methods. In the case of pixel interpolation, the interpolated frame was classified into four areas, which were interpolated using different methods. The block interpolation method has relatively low complexity, but it can yield blocking artifacts. The proposed method is the frame rate up-conversion method based on a block motion estimation and compensation using the linearity of motion. This method uses two previous frames and one next frame for motion estimation and compensation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the objective quality, particularly in a high resolution image. In addition, the proposed method has similar or higher subjective quality than other conventional approaches.

  • Lipreading is one of the important parts of speech recognition, and several studies have been conducted to improve the performance of lipreading in lipreading systems for speech recognition. Recent studies have used method to modify the model architecture of lipreading system to improve recognition performance. Unlike previous research that improve recognition performance by modifying model architecture, we aim to improve recognition performance without any change in model architecture. In order to improve the recognition performance without modifying the model architecture, we refer to the cues used in human lipreading and set other regions such as chin and cheeks as regions of interest along with the lip region, which is the existing region of interest of lipreading systems, and compare the recognition rate of each region of interest to propose the highest performing region of interest In addition, assuming that the difference in normalization results caused by the difference in interpolation method during the process of normalizing the size of the region of interest affects the recognition performance, we interpolate the same region of interest using nearest neighbor interpolation, bilinear interpolation, and bicubic interpolation, and compare the recognition rate of each interpolation method to propose the best performing interpolation method. Each region of interest was detected by training an object detection neural network, and dynamic time warping templates were generated by normalizing each region of interest, extracting and combining features, and mapping the dimensionality reduction of the combined features into a low-dimensional space. The recognition rate was evaluated by comparing the distance between the generated dynamic time warping templates and the data mapped to the low-dimensional space. In the comparison of regions of interest, the result of the region of interest containing only the lip region showed an average recognition rate of 97.36%, which is 3.44% higher than the average recognition rate of 93.92% in the previous study, and in the comparison of interpolation methods, the bilinear interpolation method performed 97.36%, which is 14.65% higher than the nearest neighbor interpolation method and 5.55% higher than the bicubic interpolation method. • In the present paper forward projection is proposed as a new approach to determine the preform shape in rib-web type forging. In the forward projection technique an optimal billet is determined by applying some mathematical relationship between geometrical trials in the initial billet shape and the final products. In forward projection a volume difference between the desired product shape and the final computed shape obtained by the rigid-plastic finite element method is used as a measure of incomplete filling of working material in the die. At first linear inter-/extrapolation is employed to find a proper trial shape for the initial billet and the method is successfully applied to some cases of different aspect ratios of the initial billet. However, when the initial guesses are not sufficiently near the optimal value linear inter-/extrapolation does not render complete die filling. For more general application, a fuzzy system is used in the forward projection technique in order to determine the initial billet shape for rib-web type forging. It has been thus shown that the fuzzy system is more reliable for the preform design in the rib-web type forging process.

  • Recently, many researches have been focused on multi-view video applications and services such as wireless video surveillance networks, wireless video sensor networks and wireless mobile video. In multi-view video signal processing, to exploit the strong correlation between images acquired by different cameras plays great role in developing a core technique of multi-view video coding. This paper proposes an adaptive multi-view video interpolation technique which is applicable for multi-view distributed video coding without requiring any cooperation amongst the cameras. The proposed algorithm estimates the non-linear moving blocks and employs disparity compensated view prediction, and then fills in the unreliable blocks. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms the conventional methods.

  • The surveillance system has been developed to be intelligent which can judge and cope by itself using human recognition technique. The existing face recognition is excellent at a short distance but recognition rate is reduced at a long distance. In this paper, we analyze the performance of face recognition according to interpolation and face recognition algorithm in face recognition using the multiple distance face images to training. we use the nearest neighbor, bilinear, bicubic, Lanczos3 interpolations to interpolate face image and PCA and LDA to face recognition. The experimental results show that LDA-based face recognition with bilinear interpolation provides performance in face recognition.

  • A calibration technique is proposed to improve the performance of 2-D towed array shape estimation using the Kalman filter. In the case of using displacement sensors, 2-D hydrophone positions estimated by the Kalman filter are calculated by assuming that the adjacent hydrophones are horizontally equi-spaced so that maximum distance is equal to the array length. The assumption causes errors in estimating hydrophone positions. The proposed technique using linear model approximation or spline interpolation can reduce the errors by exploiting the fact that the whole length of array is preserved whatever the array shape is. The numerical experiments show that the proposed method is very effective.
