Global economy has recorded low growth, low consumption, high unemployment rate, high risk, short boom and long recession. As a result, maritime economy declines and the reduction of maintenance costs is inevitable. Thus, Studies such as green ship, eco ship, and smart ship are being actively conducted to save energy of ship. Power management system that use batteries in green ship is an important research area. In this paper, we analyze the heavy load control of a power management system of a general ship using only a generator, and study a heavy load control algorithm for a battery connected power management system. To study this, a structure of battery connected power management system is proposed and a battery connected power simulator was constructed based on the proposed system. Through the simulator, the operation of the battery according to the heavy load control is defined and confirmed in the battery connected power management system.

Ship Power Management System(SPMS) based on Communication Network(CN) is one of the most significant factor for a safe voyage. Therefore, most of the vessels are using greater capacity generator than necessary to prevent pulsating load for safety purposes. However, It provokes low-load damage and reduces generator efficiency that using large capacity generator. Accordingly, in this paper propose hybrid power system for prevent damage of pulse load. Simulation using NI's LabVIEW was conducted for the design of the power system based on actual navigation data of the ship. Also, propose applying methods for hybrid power system in connection with the auxiliary power system for safe navigation.
As with any ships, adequate power provision is crucial, especially on the ocean navigating ships far from the land. In order to resolve the effective and economic power supply system of any ship in operation, in this paper, we propose a power management system that intelligently controls the power supply in ships. Power management systems in this design consist of a power load detection system, a generator configuration system, and a power monitoring system respectively. The CT / PT sensor is used to measure amount of current and power in the power detection system, and according to the collected information from various sensor, the generator configuration system will switch on and off the main / sub generator effectively. Finally, the power monitoring system will display all status information of this power management system at a glance for users. This power management systems implemented in this paper is evaluated via real-time experiments, which works well as designed, and certified by KSCIEC61892-1:2012 and KSCIEC60950-1:2008.

Many ship researches have been carried out in connection with the fourth revolution, one of which focuses on EMS(energy management system). The EMS is referred to as systems for managing the energy of ships and include various systems. In this paper, we analyze the energy saving field in ship and propose a ship power energy management system including individual load control systems that can save energy in the engine room. EMS includes individual load control systems of PCS (Pump Control System), ERFCS (Engine Room Fan Control System), LCS (Load Control System), HVACS (Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning Control System). Proposed EMS primarily conserves energy in the individual load systems of the engine room. Secondly, the integrated monitoring and control system is used to control the power generation system and the power load system to save energy.

As regulations on environmental pollution of ships have been strengthened, interest in smart ships such as electric propulsion ships equipped with hybrid power systems is increasing. Since batteries used in electric propulsion ships have a larger capacity than batteries used in vehicles, the price is high and maintenance is considered important. The ship's battery is manufactured as an integral type and is managed by the battery management system, and the maintenance and repair of the battery is performed through the replacement of the battery. we design and implement a battery module and a control algorithm using pre-cell for easy battery management. In addition, a controller is designed to transmit the data necessary for the electric propulsion ship power system control to the power control system. When a battery to which the corresponding spare-cell is applied is used, the stability of the ship and the battery system is increased, and it can have an advantage in terms of maintenance and repair.

The International Maritime Organization has steadily strengthened environmental regulations on nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide emitted from marine vessels. Consequently, the demand for electric propulsion vessels based on eco-friendly elements has increased. To this end, research and development has been steadily conducted for various vessels. In electric propulsion systems, a redundancy configuration is typically adopted to increase reliability and facilitate the onboard arrangement. Furthermore, studies have been actively conducted to ensure the safety of electric propulsion systems through the combination with digital twin technology. A digital twin can be used to predict outcomes in advance by implementing real-world equipment or space in a virtual world like twins, integrating real-world information and data with the virtual world, and performing computer simulations of situations that can occur in a real environment. In this study, we perform failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to validate the electric power management system (PMS) redundancy scheme for the digital twin technology development of electric propulsion vessels. Then, we propose the role and algorithm of PMS as a compensation function for preventing primary and secondary damages caused by a single equipment failure of the PMS and preventing additional damages by analyzing the impact on the entire system under real vessel operating conditions based on the redundancy FMEA suggested for the ship classification and certification. We verified the improvement in propulsion conservation through tests.

In line with the current era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is necessary to prepare for the future by integrating AI elements in the ship sector. In addition, it is necessary to respond to this in the field of power management for the appearance of autonomous ships. In this study, we propose a battery-linked electric propulsion system (BLEPS) algorithm using machine learning's DNN. For the experiment, we learned the pattern of ship power consumption for each operation mode based on the ship data through LabView and derived the battery status through Python to check the flexibility of the generator and battery interlocking. As a result of the experiment, the low load operation of the generator was reduced through charging and discharging of the battery, and economic efficiency and reliability were confirmed by reducing the fuel consumption of 1% of LNG.

As IMO environmental regulations are tightened, the need to establish a system that can reduce emissions is increasing, and for this purpose, various power control management systems have been studied and implemented as a new energy management system for ships. In this study, we design a control process through modeling for Bi-Directional Converter (BDC) application with bi-directional power flow to link batteries, which are energy storage devices, to conventional generator power systems, and propose mechanisms for batteries optimized for varying loads. This work models MATLAB/Simulink as a BDC and simulates current control and state of charge (SOC) optimization at the time of charging and discharging batteries according to load scenarios. Through this, the battery, power, and load were interlocked so that the generator operated on board could be operated in the optimal operation range, and power control management was performed to enable the generator to operate in the high fuel efficiency range.
