Preparation and evaluation of the limestone samples for a proficiency test using domestic limestone have been performed. We have used statistical method for evaluation of the XRF and instrumental analysis results. We have found that there were some outliers from XRF and ICP-OES instrumental analysis results for each sample. After removal of 5 outliers among the 50 samples we could obtain the homogeneous samples which have within a reliability of 95% from a statistical analysis result.

Calcium silicate based cement (CSC) is a low-carbon cement that emits less CO2 by up to 70% compared to ordinary Portland cement during its manufacture. Most developed countries have commercialized CSC, whereas Korea is still investigating the manufacturing characteristics and basic properties of CSC. This paper provides a review of methods for manufacturing CSC using domestic raw materials and discusses the possibility of CSC localization based on an evaluation of the basic physical properties of manufactured CSC. The experimental results of this study indicate that the primary mineral components of CSC were CS, C3S2 C2S, and unreacted SiO2. This suggests the possibility of manufacturing CSC using domestic raw materials that exhibit mineral compositions similar to that of theoretical CSC. The compressive strength of CSC mortar is less than 1MPa at the age of 7 d under wet curing. This implies that hydration does not affect the property development of CSC mortar. Meanwhile, during carbonation curing, the compressive strength is 56 MPa or higher after 7 d, which indicates excellent early strength development. Furthermore, results of Thermogravimetric Analysis Differential scanning calorimetry (TG/DSC) show that a significant amount of CaCO3 is formed, which is consistent with the results of previous studies. This implies that carbonation is associated significantly with the properties of CSC.
The stability of openings in the underground mine is major concern in the operation of mines that must ensure productivity and safety. Among many rock conditions affecting cavities stability, the width and height of the opening is an important design factor. In this paper, we consider to determine the maximum unsupported span of a opening in a limestone mine by using the Q system among several rock classification schemes. In order to determine the span of the unsupported opening in the limestone mine, rock mass classifications were carried out at over 200 sites in the underground limestone mines. The relationships by using the Q system and the stability graph proposed by Mathews to determine the maximum span of the unsupported opening were derived and compared. We propose a new classification method that combines GSI and RMR rock classification systems to make it easy to use in a field.

A soybean variety KWANG KYO was planted on the hilly land and fertile soil, and concentrated superphosphate and fused phosphate were applied on calcium hydroxide treated soil at level of 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% of phosphate absorbtion coefficient of soil. Application of phosphate fertilizer and lime caused higher grain yield in hilly land soil than fertile soil. The effect of fused phosphate on soybean yield was superior to concentrated superphosphate, and the effect of lime on fused phosphate availability was not significant. When the two phosphate sources were compared at equal $P_2O_5$ basis, fused phosphate required higher amount than concentrated super-phosphate. Negative correlation was obtained between potassium content and Ca + Mg in soybean leaf and in soil respectively.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate a laboratory test on arsenic removal effciency for ARD(Acid Rock Drain-age) using limestone and apatite, and on heavy metals removal efficiencies for AMD(Acid Mine Drainage) using apatite and fish bone. As a result of the laboratory test, pH, arsenic removal rate of limestone & apatite are inversely proportional to flow rates and apatite removes 100% of arsenic while limestone removes 37% of arsenic at 0.6$m{ell}$/min/kg flow rate in case of ARD treatment. And the dissolution amount of apatite is twenty five times higher than that of limestone. In case of AMD treatment, fish bone shows higher dissolution rate than apatite, and pH of outlet water reacted with fish bone is higher than that reacted with apatite. The heavy metal removal rates of fish bone are also higher than that of apatite except arsenic removal rate. The precipitate resulted from fish bone reaction with AMD seems to be biological sludge type while that resulted from apatite with AMD is inorganic solid which can settle easily compared with the biological sludge and can be cemented by gypsum. As the results, apatite can be used as a precipitant for the polluted mine waters showing wide range of pH and fish bone can be used for highly contaminated AMD.
In this study, sintering properties of Artificial Lightweight aggregates(ALAs) prepared from coal ash as a function of sintering temperature (900$^{\circ}$C, 1000$^{\circ}$C, 1100$^{\circ}$C) and time (2min, 5min, 10min) when limestone added as lightweight mineral was investigated. Increasing the sintering temperature resulted simultaneously from a decline of quartz mineral as well as growth of mullite mineral. Addition of limestone to ALAs newly formed sintered minerals such as clinoptilolite and plagioclase. Sintering effect of ALAs prepared from coal ash and limestone was more affected by a sintering temperature than time. As sintering temperature and time increae, transition of macropore to micropore and formation of closed pores were happened, consequently shrank the total pore volume of ALAs. The surface of ALAs sintered at 1000$^{\circ}$C for 5min was nearly not detected open pores due toe amalgamation effect of molten slag layer but homogeneous distributions of closed pores with micro-scale were examined in cross sectional area ALAs. Sintering temperature and time which present the most adequate state, in the preparation of ALAs, are corresponded to 1000$^{\circ}$C and 5min, respectively.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of feeding limestone to high and low Ca layer diets on laying performance and eggshell quality in laying hens. Five hundred and twenty-eight HyLine brown layer allotted to six treatments consisting of high and low Ca diets. Limestone added to two kinds of basal diet with 1, 2 and 3 fold compared to conventional diet. Egg production was not different regardless Ca level and amount of added limestone in overall periods. However, the increment of egg observed in high Ca diet and added 10g limestone group during later period. Ca and limestone intake were increased as increasing feeding limestone. Eggshell strength and thickness were improved in high Ca consumption group. It was concluded that feeding Ca sources to conventional diets was helpful improving eggshell quality and reducing feed cost per egg mass by increasing proportion of Ca intake.

An active apatite drainage system has been developed at the Goro abandoned mine, comprising a grit cell, a reaction cell, and a precipitation pond. Leachate from an abandoned adit and tailing ponds is collected in a pipeline and is transported to the apatite drainage system under the influence of the hydraulic gradient. The results of a laboratory experiment performed in 2004 indicate that the reaction cell requires 38.8 ton/year of apatite and that precipitate will have to be removed from the precipitation pond every 3 months. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a laboratory test on the efficiency of limestone and apatite in removing arsenic from ARD (acid rock drainage), and to evaluate the suitability of materials for use as a precipitant for the leachate treatment disposal system. The laboratory tests show that the arsenic removal ratios of limestone and apatite are 67.4%-98.3%, and the arsenic removal ratio of apatite is inversely proportional to its grain size. The arsenic compounds are assumed to be Johnbaumnite and Ca-arsenic hydrate. Therefore, apatite and phosphorous limestone can be used as a precipitant for the removal of arsenic, although it is difficult to remove arsenic from ARD when it occurs in low concentrations.

In this study, the applicability of calcite, sand, and zeolite for the remediation of sediments contaminated with organics and nutrients were investigated. Sediments and seawater for water tank experiments were sampled from Pyeongtaek harbor, and 1 cm or 3 cm of calcite, sand, and zeolite were capped on the sampled sediments. pH, electric conductivity (EC), dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) were monitored for 63 days. The sampled sediments were highly contaminated with organic matter and total nitrogen. DO in uncapped condition was exhausted within 10 days but DO in capping condition except 3 cm of zeolite capping was prolonged above 2 mg/L. Capping efficiency for interrupting COD release from sediments was in the following order: zeolite 1 cm > calcite 1 cm > calcite 3 cm > sand 3 cm ${\cong}$ zeolite 3 cm ${\cong}$ sand 1 cm. Zeolite was found to be effective for interrupting nitrogen release. T-P was not observed in both uncapped and capped sediment, i.e., all experimental conditions. It can be concluded that zeolite can be effectively used for the remediation of sediments highly contaminated with organic matter and nitrogen.
