An alternative developmental toxicity test using mouse embryonic stem cell derived embryoid bodies has been developed. This alternative method is not to administer chemicals to animals, but to treat chemicals with cells. This study suggests the use of Discriminant Analysis, Support Vector Machine, Artificial Neural Network and k-Nearest Neighbor. Algorithm performance was compared with accuracy and a weighted Cohen's kappa coefficient. In application, various classification techniques were applied to cytotoxicity data to classify drug toxicity and compare the results.
OC-SVM(One Class Support Vector Machine) avoids solving a full density estimation problem, and instead focuses on a simpler task, estimating quantiles of a data distribution, i.e. its support. OC-SVM seeks to estimate regions where most of data resides and represents the regions as a function of the support vectors, Although OC-SVM is powerful method for data description, it is difficult to incorporate human subjective importance into its estimation process, In order to integrate the importance of each point into the OC-SVM process, we propose a fuzzy version of OC-SVM. In FOC-SVM (Fuzzy One-Class Support Vector Machine), we do not equally treat data points and instead weight data points according to the importance measure of the corresponding objects. That is, we scale the kernel feature vector according to the importance measure of the object so that a kernel feature vector of a less important object should contribute less to the detection process of OC-SVM. We demonstrate the performance of our algorithm on several synthesized data sets, Experimental results showed the promising results.

In this paper, we propose a real-time algorithm for estimating the relative position of a person with respect to a robot (camera) using a monocular camera. The algorithm detects the head and shoulder regions of a person using HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradient) feature vectors and an SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier. The size and location of the detected area are used for calculating the relative distance and angle between the person and the camera on a robot. To increase the speed of the algorithm, we use a GPU and NVIDIA's CUDA library; the resulting algorithm speed is ~ 15 Hz. The accuracy of the algorithm is compared with the output of a SICK laser scanner.

The emotion plays a critical role in human's daily life including learning, action, decision and communication. In this paper, emotion discrimination classifier is designed to reduce system complexity through reduced selection of dominant features from biosignals. The photoplethysmography(PPG), skin temperature, skin conductance, fontal and parietal electroencephalography(EEG) signals were measured during 4 types of movie watching associated with the induction of neutral, sad, fear joy emotions. The genetic algorithm with support vector machine(SVM) based fitness function was designed to determine dominant features among 24 parameters extracted from measured biosignals. It shows maximum classification accuracy of 96.4%, which is 17% higher than that of SVM alone. The minimum error features selected are the mean and NN50 of heart rate variability from PPG signal, the mean of PPG induced pulse transit time, the mean of skin resistance, and ${\delta}$ and ${\beta}$ frequency band powers of parietal EEG. The combination of parietal EEG, PPG, and skin resistance is recommendable in high accuracy instrumentation, while the combinational use of PPG and skin conductance(79% accuracy) is affordable in simplified instrumentation.

This paper proposes a search method that explores parameters C and σ values of support vector machines (SVM) to improve performance while maintaining search accuracy. A traditional grid search method requires tremendous computational times because it searches all available combinations of C and σ values to find optimal combinations which provide the best performance of SVM. To address this issue, this paper proposes a deep search method that reduces computational time. In the first stage, it divides C-σ- accurate metrics into four regions, searches a median value of each region, and then selects a point of the highest accurate value as a start point. In the second stage, the selected start points are re-divided into four regions, and then the highest accurate point is assigned as a new search point. In the third stage, after eight points near the search point. are explored and the highest accurate value is assigned as a new search point, corresponding points are divided into four parts and it calculates an accurate value. In the last stage, it is continued until an accurate metric value is the highest compared to the neighborhood point values. If it is not satisfied, it is repeated from the second stage with the input level value. Experimental results using normal and defect bearings show that the proposed deep search algorithm outperforms the conventional algorithms in terms of performance and search time.

Support vector machines (SVMs) are well known for their pattern recognition capability, but proper care should be taken to alleviate their inherent implementation cost resulting from high computational intensity and memory requirement, especially in embedded systems where only limited resources are available. Since the memory requirement determined by the dimensionality and the number of support vectors is generally too high for a cache in embedded systems to accomodate, frequent accesses to the main memory occur inevitably whenever the cache is not able to provide requested data to the processor. These frequent accesses to the main memory result in overall performance degradation and increased energy consumption because a memory access typically takes longer and consumes more energy than a cache access or a register access. In this paper, we propose a technique that reduces the number of main memory accesses by optimizing the data access pattern of the SVM-based classifier in such a way that the temporal locality of the accesses increases, fully utilizing data loaded into the processor chip. With experiments, we confirm the enhancement made by the proposed technique in terms of the number of memory accesses, overall execution time, and energy consumption.
Machine learning has been actively used in the field of automation due to the development and establishment of AI technology. The important thing in utilizing machine learning is that appropriate algorithms exist depending on data characteristics, and it is needed to analysis the datasets for applying machine learning techniques. In this study, advance rate is predicted using geotechnical and machine data of TBM tunnel section passing through the soil ground below the stream. Although there were no problems of application of statistical technology in the linear regression model, the coefficient of determination was 0.76. While, the ensemble model and support vector machine showed the predicted performance of 0.88 or higher. it is indicating that the model suitable for predicting advance rate of the EPB Shield TBM was the support vector machine in the analyzed dataset. As a result, it is judged that the suitability of the prediction model using data including mechanical data and ground information is high. In addition, research is needed to increase the diversity of ground conditions and the amount of data.

This study was conducted to develop a customized severity-adjustment method and to evaluate their validity for acute myocardial infarction(AMI) patients to complement the limitations of the existing severity-adjustment method for comorbidities. For this purpose, the subjects of KCD-7 code I20.0 ~ I20.9, which is the main diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction were extracted using the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury survey data from 2006 to 2015. Three tools were used for severity-adjustment method of comorbidities : CCI (charlson comorbidity index), ECI (Elixhauser comorbidity index) and the newly proposed CCS (Clinical Classification Software). The results showed that CCS was the best tool for the severity correction, and that support vector machine model was the most predictable. Therefore, we propose the use of the customized method of severity correction and machine learning techniques from this study for the future research on severity adjustment such as assessment of results of medical service.
The major purpose of this study is to evaluate methodologies to predict the injury severity of pedestrian-vehicle collisions. Methodologies to be evaluated and compared in this study include Binary Logistic Regression(BLR), Ordered Probit Model(OPM), Support Vector Machine(SVM) and Decision Tree(DT) method. Valuable insights into applying methodologies to analyze the characteristics of pedestrian injury severity are derived. For the purpose of identifying causal factors affecting the injury severity, statistical approaches such as BLR and OPM are recommended. On the other hand, to achieve better prediction performance, heuristic approaches such as SVM and DT are recommended. It is expected that the outcome of this study would be useful in developing various countermeasures for enhancing pedestrian safety.
