Outside Plant Engineering for FTTH (FTTH 구축을 위한 OSP 특성 분석)

  • As a settlement for the fiber access, the FTTH is an ideal mode for providing various high-bandwidth value added services including high definition IPTV to broadband users, and KT, the largest incumbent of Korea, started FTTH service from 2005. For FTTH deployment, it needs a cost-effective solution including reliability and maintenance costs. This paper analyzes the characteristics and technical issues for the main components of outside plant in general household area.

A Study of the Effect of Intangible Asset on Firm Value : Focused on KOSDAQ-Listed Medium-Sized Companies (기업의 무형자산이 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 코스닥 상장 중견기업을 중심으로)

  • According to the growing importance of science and technology policy, investment in research and development (R&D) has been increased. In this context, a patent as one of outcome of firm's systematic R&D investment is the way to hold a dominant position in companies' technology competitiveness and also to protect technology right. This study attempts to find the effects of input resources and intellectual property production activity on company value. It conducted empirical analysis based on 238 KOSDAQ-listed and medium-sized firms. Using the previous research, this study configurated research variables about activity of patent production, company value, and input of resources. Through these variables, it aims to know the effect of input of resources and activity of patent production on company value. First, the result of regression analysis shows that R&D cost has the positive effect on a patent production and sales promotion cost positively affects on the registration of the trademark. Second, the output of regression analysis indicates that a patent has the positive effect on company value but a trademark has not. With regard to the input of resources, R&D cost has the influence on company value but sales promotion cost has not. This study attempts to find the effectiveness of company's intellectual property registration on its value and suggests a way that the systematic R&D investment contributes the growth of company value.

  • Governments around the world invest in research and development (R&D) for different purposes : national economy, defence, environment, health, etc. as a means of national survival beyond the means of national competitiveness. These are usually programs with high social impact but low short-term economic impact or large scientific programs that are too expensive and risky for private sector investment alone. The Republic of Korea has also shown a very successful model of economic progress and social development through government R&D programs. However, there have been many corruption scandals behind it while selecting awardees for government R&D programs in Korea. So, the Republic of Korea focused on reforming appraisal system for government R&D and began preparation for "Clean Appraisal System" last year. In this study, first we analyzed the related appraisal tasks through the review of laws and administrative rules and typed appraisal tasks according to the flow of the actors and time. Thus securing the information infrastructure and finally we drew the conceptual model of the system according to an open appraisal tasks by introducing an element of the OECD on open government typed appraisal tasks.

Scientists' Information Behavior for Bridging the Gaps Encountered in the Process of the Scientific Research Lifecycle (과학기술분야 연구활동 단계별 문제상황 극복을 위한 정보행동 연구)

  • This study analyzed scientists information behaviors when they engage in solving specific research problems in various situations throughout the entire scientific R&D lifecycle process. In-depth interviews with a total of 24 scientists were conducted in their research laboratories, the scientists' everyday workplace and the contexts of scientific research. The theoretical and methodological frameworks employed for this study were Dervin's Sense-making, Savolainen's Everyday Life Information Seeking, and Engestrom's Activity Theory. The findings of this study informed context-specific research and information behaviors of the scientists in the 14 sub stages of the five-stage of R&D lifecycle. Specifically, the study revealed the research objectives and related information behaviors (e.g., information needs, information seeking, information sources and channels, information barriers, etc.) to achieve the objectives at each sub-stage. The study results provided essential information to re-design the information services and strategies that accommodate the scientific R&D lifecycle.

Developing a Real-time Cashflow Management System for National R&D Management (국가 연구 개발 프로젝트 실시간 자금 관리 시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • As science and technology infiltrates every aspects of modern society in terms of economic and social growth and development, funding for research and development (R&D) is growing rapidly. Republic of Korea is not an exception in this trend and the R&D funding in Korea has been grown about 10% every year, recently. However, as the scope and size of funding grows exponentially, need for monitoring and managing these R&D projects becoming more and more imminent. Though different types of project management systems were developed by a variety of agencies and departments and used in monitoring and managing, these systems were developed as standalone silo type systems. These systems are not connected to each other while the same researchers may involved in different projects across agencies and department. Also, these management systems are not linked to the banking systems in which real transactions of funding occurs, such as cost reimbursement and financial audit of each R&D accounts. Historically, a few fraud and malappropriation cases were found and indicted. However, as the number of these incidents grows along with the growth of R&D funding, a large scale integration/linking of project management systems and banking systems. Realizing the importance of systems integration among agencies as well as with the banking systems, situational requirements analyses were conducted concerning the current state of R&D management system. As a results, a Real-time Case Management System (RCMS) was proposed as a solution to current problems. In this paper, the collected systems requirements were documents with analyses of the situation, the architecture of the integrated systems with more user-friendly technological alternatives. This large scale linkage requires interface standardization as well as modularization of interfaces. Proposed systems architecture is introduced here with technical details of Jex Framework used,, followed by resulting technical and economic performance of the Realtime Cashflow Management System (RCMS).

  • 최근 다양한 관점에서의 사회관계망 분석이 확대되면서 R&D분야도 연구자 간의 네트워크를 이해하고자 하는 요구사항도 증가하고 있지만 국내에서는 연구자나 과학자 사이의 네트워크 분석 및 서비스에 대한 시도가 다양하지 않은 상황이다. 본 논문은 국내 R&D분야의 사회관계망에 대한 이해증진을 위하여 구현한 공저자 네트워크 가시화 서비스에 대한 기술이다. 사회 관계망 분석과 서비스를 위하여 동명이인 저자를 식별하고 이들 간의 공저자 관계를 계량정보 분석기법을 이용하여 분석하였으며 연구자들 간의 네트워크를 쉽게 조망할 수 있도록 정보를 가시화 하였다. 본 논문에서 구현한 공저자 네트워크 서비스는 국내 연구자들 간의 협업형태를 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 하며 각 연구 분야의 핵심연구자 및 다양한 연구 분야를 연계하는 허브 연구자의 확인을 용이하게 한다.

Determinants of Firms' Standardization Activity: Evidence from the Korean Service Firms (기업의 표준화활동 결정요인 : 우리나라 서비스기업에 대한 실증연구)

  • The paper investigates the determinants of firm's standardization activity in the Korean service industry. Standardization variables as dependent ones are standardization management at the firm level, domestic standardization activity, and international standardization activity. The independent variables include innovative activities(R&D intensity and patent application), firm size, export ratio, network, and firm's organization characteristics. We estimated the logistic regression model, using the data from 102 Korean service firms. The empirical findings are as follows. First, R&D intensity has a positive effect on international standardization activity, but not on the standardization management at the firm level and domestic standardization activity. Second, patent application has a negative effect on the standardization management at the firm level. Third, firm size doesn't have any influence on firms' standardization activities in the service sector. Fourth, the level of chief executive officer's interest on standardization is a very important factor in determining firms' efforts to participate standardization process, regardless of types of standardization activity.

A Novel D2D Communication Scheme for Location-Based OTT Service in Cellular Networks (셀룰러 통신망에서 위치기반 OTT 서비스 지원을 위한 D2D 통신 방안)

  • Since the smart phone was first introduced, the amount of mobile traffic has increased explosively. The OTT service with personal broadcasting and TV contents and the number of users have been increased in wired network, and there are needs to expand the OTT service to mobile network. In the case of the OTT service in mobile network, the relative small and finite resource may cause the overload of the network due to the massive and high transfer rate. In this paper, we consider a future situation of the OTT user services in the cellular network and propose a novel D2D communication scheme for location-based OTT service, which can reduce and distribute the amount of video traffics. To effectively handle the traffic of OTT services, we propose D2DS and LCS functional blocks in EPC network, which can provide location-based service and D2D management. And, we suggest additional procedures for the location-based service of both content provider and contents receiver UEs with the operation of the proposed D2DS and LCS function block.
