A Commercial Development of Ultrasonic Fuel Feeding System for Low Pollution and High Performance in Diesel Automobile (디젤자동차의 저공해(低公害), 고출력용(高出力用) 초음파(超音波) 연료공급장치(燃料供給裝置)의 상용화(商用化) 개발(開發))

  • This is an experimental study on the chassis dynamometer and high way road testing during a severe winter and summer season. Results obtained to compare with the ultrasonic fuel feeding system and conventional fuel system in diesel automobile engine. The results were as followers in case of the ultrasonic fuel feeding system. 1. In chassis dynamometer testing during given vehicle speeds, output were increased from 4.6 to 11.43%, brake specific fuel consumption were increased from 6 to 19%, smoke were decreased from 16.7 to 50%. 2. The running fuel consumption ratio in high way road test were decreased by 15.3% at a severe summer and 20.2% at a severe winter.

Performance Characteristics of CNG Vehicle at Various Compression Ratios (압축비 변경에 따른 CNG차량의 성능특성 연구)

  • Natural gas is one of the promising alternative fuels for automotive vehicles, because it has lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy characteristics than those of gasoline, and can be used in conventional gasoline engines without major modifications. In the present study, a conventional gasoline engine was modified to a CNG engine, which can be operated with CNG only, and an engine bench test was performed to calibrate the operating parameters of the engine such as air fuel ratio, spark advance, etc. at various operating conditions. The modified CNG engine, then, was installed on a commercial gasoline vehicle and a vehicle driving test on chassis dynamometer was performed to examine the fuel economy and exhaust emission characteristics. As a result, the prototype CNG vehicle showed lower exhaust emissions and better fuel economy characteristics, but slightly reduced brake horse power, compared to the gasoline vehicle.

  • To keep up with the regulation of OBD II(on board diagnostics II), many detection methods for engine misfire have been developed. Among them, the method of using the crankshaft speed fluctuation is the most noticeable in the point of view of lower cost and easier installation than any others. On the basis of the results obtained from the previous engine-dynamometer test, the integrating torque index (ITI) has been introduced. In this research, the instrumental and the interfacing systems to engine control unit(ECU) are developed for the vehicle test. Therefore, the vehicle and chassis-dynamometer test can be carried out in addition to the rough road test. From this test, the previousproposed method proved that it can be applied to the real vehicle.

  • The phenomenon of squeal in disc brakes has been, and stin is, a problem for the automotive industry. Extensive research has been done in an attempt to understand the mechanisms that cause it and in developing design procedures to reduce it to make vehicles more comfortable. In this paper, the study on squeal noise of disc brake is performed using complex eigen-value analysis, The first part describes the chassis-dynamometer and the testing procedure, and second part explains how the analysis is performed and shows some of the results from typical squeal tests. Finally, to reduce squeal nose of disc brake is investigated by the effects of brake design parameter.

  • The phenomenon of squeal noise in the disk brake system has been, and still is, a. problem for the automotive industry. Extensive research has been carried out in an attempt to understand the mechanism that causes squeal noise and In developing design procedures to reduce squeal noise to make vehicles more comfortable. In this paper, the study on the analysis of squeal noise is performed by using computer aided engineering to design the anti-squeal noise disk brake system. The first part describes the chassis dynamometer and the testing procedure, and second part explains the finite element model and the complex eigenvalue analysis. Finally, it is shown that the proposed squeal noise analysis could be useful to investigate the design parameters that affect the squeal noise characteristics.
