  • High temperature stresses have caused growth inhibition and delayed heading in highland cultivation Chinese cabbage during summer in Korea. We have studied high temperature stress responses in the terms of changes of inorganic components and proteins by proteomic analyses. Insufficiencies of nitrogen and phosphorus have affected growth rate and calcium deficiency has caused blunted heading. Proteins extracted from Brassica seedling grown at the altitude of 600m and 900m in the Mount Jilun were extracted and analysed by 2-dimentional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Profiles of protein expression was then analyzed by 2-dimentional gel analyses. Protein spots showing different expression level were picked using the spot handling workstation and subjected to MALDI-TOF MS. Total 48 protein spots were analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS and 30 proteins spots out of 48 were identified by peptide mass fingerprinting analyses. Fourteen proteins were up-regulated in extracts from the altitude of 900m and they were identified as oxygen-evolving proteins, rubisco activase and ATPase etc. Sixteen proteins were up-regulated in extracts from the altitude of 600m and they were identified as glutathione S-transferase(1, 28kD cold induced- and 24 kD auxin-binding proteins) and salt-stress induced protein etc. These stress-induced proteins were related to the mediated protective mechanism against oxidative damage during various stresses. The results indicated that physiological phenomenon in response to high temperature stresses might be resulted by complex and multiple array of responses with drought, heat, oxidative, salt, and cold by high temperature.

  • Wood of Robinia pseudoacacia and bark of Populus alba$\times$P. glandulosa, Fraxinus rhynchophylla and Ulmus davidiana var. japonica were collected and extracted with acetone-water(7:3, v/v) in glass jar to examine whether its bioactive compounds exist. The concentrated extracts were fractionated with hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate and water, and then freeze-dried for column chromatography and bioactive tests. The isolated compounds were sakuranetin-5-O-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside from Populus alba $\times$Pl glandulosa, 4--ethyoxy-(+)-leucorobinetinidin frm R. pseudoacacia and fraxetion from F. rhynchophylla and were characterized by $^1H$ and$^{13}C $ NMR and positive FAB-MS. Decay-resistant activity was expressed by weight loss ratio and hyphae growth inhibition in the wood dust agar medium inoculated wood rot fungi. R. pseudoacacia showed best anti-decaying property in both test and its methanol untreated samples, indicating higher activity than methanol treated samples in hyphae grwoth test. In antioxidative test, $\alpha$-tocopherol, one of natural antioxidants, and BHT, one of synthetic antioxidants, were used as references to cmpare with the antioxidant activities of the extacted fractions. Ethylacetate fraction of F. rhynchophylla bark indicated the hightest activity in this test and all fractions of R. pseudiacacia extractives also indicated higher activities compared with the other fractions. In the isolated compounds, aesculetin isolated from F. rhynchophylla bark showed best activity and followed by robonetinidin from R. pseudoacaica.

둘째, WLWQ가 내용 의문문으로만 해석되는데 그 이유는 양의 공리(the maxim of quantity: Grice 1975) 때문이다.

  • $CO_2$ enrichment systems have been recently used to shorten the growth period of plants and the improvement of harvest and its quality. To accomplish these goals, manifold should be designed to supply the same amount of $CO_2$. In this study, CFD approach has been used to understand the effects of geometric parameters, such as tube and hole diameters. An optimized geometry has been derived through pipe and tube part, respectively. As a result, the deviation of flow rate less than 0.1 g/s was expected at all holes of the $CO_2$ enrichment system.

  • To obtain basic information for establishing a pest control strategy for insect pest management system, changes in the population densities of the black-tipped sawfly(Acantholyda posticalis posticalis Matsumura) and damage patterns in tree growth were investigated in national forests in Hoigok-ri, Kapyung-gun, Kyunggi-do, where the pest control measures were taken. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The larval density in the soil of the forests where the insecticides were applied have been kept below economic threshold for about 7 years. The density was the highest in the middle of slopes and similar to the level of the early stage of the insect outbreak. 2. After the pest control by insecticides, reduction in tree height and diameter growth lasted for 2-3 years in trees defoliated by over 70%. 3. The diameter growth of the trees damaged by black-tipped sawfly recovered faster in upper stem than in the lower. 4. volume growth of the trees defoliated over 70% by the insect decreased for three to four years. The volume loss of trees defoliated by 70% and 90% was 19.6% and 54.0%, respectively. 5. Maintaining the rate of defoliation below 50%, which is the economic threshold, by chemical control measures had an effect of reducing the tree volume loss by $40m^2/ha$ as compared with a stand defoliated by 90%.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the opto-electric characteristics of light-emitting diodes(LED) designed for growth and morphogenesis control of transplant and to quantify the photon flux emittig from LED using a quantum sensor spectroradiometer. Difference in photon flux for blue and red LED between measured by a quantum sensor and measured by a spectroradiometer and numerically integrated was not observed. This result implies a spectroradiometer can be applied to quantify the photon flux emitting from far-red LED, which can not be measured using a quantum sensor. Since photon flux increases in proportion to wavelength, photon flux of LED modules arranged for red and far-red increased in proportion to wavelength, photon flux of LED modules arranged for red and rar-red increased gradually as the number of LED stick emitting far-red in LEd modules increased. Illumination of LED modules arranged for red and far-red decreased as the number of LED stick emitting far-red in LED modules increased. There was no difference in irradiance between LED modules arranged for red and far-red.

  • Annual ring characteristics of pinus thunbergii grown in several air-polluted areas were investigated by soft X-ray densitometry. Ring width, maximum density and relative difference between maximum and minimum density(abbreviated to DD) were generally decreased after the beginning of operation of the factories at the vicinity of the pollution sources. Especially at the nearest areas of the industrial complex, those were distinctly decreased, and the changes, either increases or decreases, in percentage of latewood and minimum density could not be explained by the air pollution dosages. Ring width, maximum density and DD were being more apparently decreased after 5 years than those for 5 years after the beginning of operation, and also the rate of decrease was increased from after 5 years after the beginning of operation, and the rate of decrease of ring width was the highest of all. It was inferred that ring width, maximum density and DD of Pinus thunbergii could be used as indicators to detect the growth damage by air pollution.

  • It was estimated that the Imdang-dong site of Gyungsan was constructed in the 2nd to 4th century based on excavated layers and artifacts. This study was carried out to verify the result using the dendrochronological analysis of six wooden pillars excavated at the site. As a result, it was proven that 6 specimens were not cut at the same age because their tree-ring chronologies were not synchronized each other. And more, it was reconfirmed in wiggle matching dating as confirming two of them were dated to A.D. 94-135 and A.D. 224-289, respectively. It was coincided with the above-mentioned estimated age. In wood identification, most of them were identified as Hovenia dulcis Thunb., Tilia spp., Ulmus spp. which grow usually under cool environment. Based on the result, we could conclude that the climate at that time was cooler than the present.

  • As a tropical plant, the neem tree (Azadirachta indica) has been used for a long time for disease and pest control and medical purposes. In this paper, we reviewed for the active ingredient of neem, the mode of action of azadirachtin in terms of insect growth regulation, repellent, feeding inhibition and oviposition against plant pests. And also we reviewed the current status of practical use in Korea. Among 57 products of neem-based eco-friendly organic agricultural materials distributed in Korea, seven products were certified for their efficacy. The average azadirachtin content of the seven products was 0.38%, which was 5.5 times less than the average content of 2.1% distributed worldwide. In the control effect on neem products in Korea, it showed some variation on aphids, but most showed a control effect of more than 90%. The treatment effects of Lycorma delicatula nymphs were 73-77%, and the control effects for thrips were obtained in the range of 50-72% mortality. The mortality effects against bug and moth species were generally low. It is expected that this review would provide important information necessary for the understanding of distributed neem products and the interpretation of experimental data.

  • As a result of conducting a cultural experiment of tomato using chicken feather protein hydrolysate (CPH) which was mass produced by keratin protein degrading bacterium Chryseobacterium sp. FBF-7 (KACC 91463P), we found that the stem and the root of tomato showed significant improvement in growth. For the purpose of phylogenic interpretation, a comparison was drawn between the effect of CPH, a treated CPH and untreated, on the changes of bacterial populations by 454 pyrosequencing based on 16S rRNA gene sequences. Tomato rhizosphere soil untreated with CPH (NCPH) showed 6.54 Shannon index from 3,281 sequence reads, and the rhizosphere soil treated with CPH (TCPH) showed 6.33 Shannon index from 2,167 sequence reads, displaying that it does not affect the diversity. Bacterial populations were composed of 19 phyla in the rhizosphere soil, and the phylum Proteobacteria occupied 40% of total bacterial populations. Bradyrhizobium, Agromonas, Nitrobacter, and Afipia (BANA group) which belong to Bradyrhizobiaceae were abundant and commonly detected in both the treated and untreated soils, suggesting the dominance of bacterial group in rhizosphere soil. The results obtained showed that CPH treatment does not affect the indigenous bacterial populations present in the rhizosphere soil.
