Effect of Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency on Blood and Tissue Lipid Compositions (필수 지방산 결핍이 성장기 쥐의 혈액 및 조직의 지방조성에 미치는 영향)

  • Weanling male rats were fed a semi - synthetic diet containing either 10% corn oil, or 10% hydrogenated coconut oil (HCO) for 5 weeks. They were analyzed for plasma, liver, heart, testis, kidney and adrenal lipid compositions ; total lipids, total cholesterol, phospholipid, and triglyceride. The rats fed essential fatty acids deficient diet grew comparably with corn oil group and did not any dermal symptoms of EFAs deficiency. The most remarkable changes found in lipids of rats in experimental groups were ; (1) an increase in the concentration of plasma TG and liver TG in HCO group. (2) a decrease in the concentration of plasma PL and an increase in the concentration of testis PL of HCO group. (3) A decrease in cholesterol level of testis, kidney and adrenal of HCO group. Although this study did not show the profound EFA deficiency in weanling rats, this study showed the possibility of early nutrition affecting subsequent development in various tissues.

  • For the conservation of both Sericinus montela (vulnerable species by red book of Korea) and A. contorta, we investigated environmental factors affecting the growth and reproduction of Aristolochia contorta. We selected four A. contorta habitats at Gapyeong, Pyeongtaek, Cheongju, and Yeoju in Korea and surveyed community and habitat characteristics of companion species, herbivore appearance, support types, and soil physicochemical properties in July and October, 2018. Habitat environments and the growth and reproduction characteristics of A. contorta were different according to four habitats of different regions. In particular, the fastest growth speed and earliest flowering and fruiting were observed in Pyeongtaek. Growth of A. contorta in Cheongju and Yeoju were interrupted by aboveground damage from human disturbance. In this study, support types seemed to be important for growth speed of A. contorta. Flowering and fruiting timing were likely to be related to combined effects of soil cation contents and competitive and herbivore stresses. Therefore, providing effective support and reducing biological stress should be necessary for stable growth and proper flowering and fruiting timing of A. contorta. In addition, experimental evidence would be needed to figure out the effect of soil cation and biological stress on flowering and fruiting of A. contorta in detail.

  • Saprelegnia sp. was isolated from water sample of Illgam lake in Kon-Kuk university and physiological and reproductive characteristics of this isolate were studied. The isolate grew at a broad range of temperature of $25^{\circ}C\;to\;30^{\circ}C$ and of pH 5 to 6. The maximum growth was attained at the concentrations of 5 mM to 10 mM of phosphate and of 14 g/l of vitamin-free casamino acid. Size of asexual reproductive propagule, zoospore, was $10.3{\mu}$ in diameter and cyst, $11.6{\mu}$. Diameter of oogonium was $47-85{\mu}$ and oospores, $21-31{\mu}$.

Changes in Exposure Dose and Image Quality due to Radiation Shielding in Pediatric Patients (소아 환자에서 방사선 차폐체로 인한 피폭선량과 화질의 변화)

  • This study was conducted to observe the changes in radiation exposure dose and image quality of pediatric patients according to the presence and size of the gonadal shield when using the AEC system. X-ray equipment was used to measure the radiation exposure dose in the abdominal and gonads of the pediatric phantom when no shielding body was used and when three different sizes of shielding body were used, and SNR and CNR were measured through the obtained images. As a result of the study, the radiation exposure dose to the gonads decreased in proportion to the size of the radiation shield, but the radiation exposure dose to the abdomen was rather increased, and the image quality did not change. It is recommended to use a shield with a size optimized for the age, weight, and body size of the pediatric patient so as not to be overexposed by the increased radiation due to the radiation shield due to the use of the AEC System. For this purpose, information about the pediatric patient with the nurse It is believed that exchange is necessary.

  • Amphibian populations are declining globally, pushing many species to the brink of extinction. To promote biodiversity and sustainable management, countries are actively researching amphibian reproductive ecology. Sperm cryopreservation is a crucial assisted reproductive technology that aids in preserving the genetic diversity of amphibians. However, because amphibian sperm cells are sensitive to osmotic stress, the optimal cryopreservation method therefore differs from species to species. This literature review offers an overview of the significance of developing cryopreservation techniques for amphibian conservation and highlights the need to create optimal cryopreservation methods and the introduction of long-term monitoring (e.g., fertilization success and offspring reproduction) to advance cryopreservation technology development. This review can be used as basic research data for amphibian conservation methods.

Development and Efficiency Evaluation of Auxiliary Shielding using Elbow Support (팔꿈치 지지대를 사용한 보조 차폐 기구의 개발 및 효용성 평가)

  • As the importance of intervention has recently increased, interest in the health of medical staff performing the procedure is increasing. Existing radiation shielding devices have limited the operator's movement and have not been properly used due to the risk of infection, and adequate radiation shielding of the operator's gonads and furthermore, the entire area of the procedure room has not been achieved. An auxiliary shielding device was manufactured by attaching a Bismuth to the elbow support used in the procedure, and the radiation shielding effect was measured. As a result of the measurement, the average spatial dose rate decreased by about 64.8%, and the independent sample t-test analysis showed statistically significant below the significance probability (p<0.05). The use of an auxiliary shielding device is considered to be an effective shielding method that can shield the operator's gonads and reduce the radiation spatial dose rate of the entire area of the procedure room.

  • 자연적인 서식지에서 토끼는 번번히 육식 동물의 먹이가 된다. 이들의 일차적이고 우선적인 생존 반응은 발견을 피하기 위한 노력으로 조용히 있는 것이다. 토끼는 폭발적인 속도를 빠르게 낼 수 있고 짧은 거리에서 즉시 방향을 바꿀 수 있도록 가벼운 뼈, 작은 앞다리, 강력하고 잘 발달된 뒷다리를 가졌을 뿐만 아니라, 예민한 청각과 즉각적인 후각을 발달시킴으로써 'fight or flight(적자생존)'로 적응해왔다. 이런 생존 반응은 욕구가 없어진 것으로 나타나는 대부분의 집토끼에도 여전히 존재하지만, 이런 토끼들은 장애에 대해 반응이 불완전하고 변화에 쉽게 스트레스를 받는다. 스트레스를 받은 동물은 일차적으로 anorexia와 용변의 빈도와 일관성에 변화를 유발하는 건강, 생식, 행동적인 문제에 더욱 민감하다.

  • 양돈장의 소득향상을 위하여 능력이 우수한 번식돈을 확보하여 모돈두당 년간 이유두수(PSY)를 높여 품질이 우수한 비육돈의 출하두수와 출하체중을 증가시켜야 한다. 고능력 번식모돈을 확보하기 위해서는 유전적으로 산자수가 많고 비유능력이 우수하여 자돈의 복당 이유시 체중이 무거운 가계능력이 우수한 혈통을 가진 후보돈을 구입해야 하고, 외형적으로는 건강상태가 양호하여 후보돈의 교배시 등지방층이 16mm이상이고, 유두수가 많고 유두의 배열 및 간격이 일정하고 유두상태가 양호하여 부유두와 맹유두가 2개 이하이며, 외부 생식기의 발달이 좋으며, 지제가 튼튼한 후보돈을 선발 구입하여 돈군의 적정한 산차 구성을 유지하는 것이 바람직하다.
