NMR spectroscopy enables us to measure the molar concentration of the metabolites in the organisms, and this technique is the only method to measure the concentration non-invasively. The proton NMR spectroscopy has been used to study the biochemical changes in human as well as in animal brain. MRI uses the proton densities and its relaxation times for reconstructing images, but MRS gives the biochemical changes inside the body. NMR spectroscopy could provide the information which MRI and CT could not, and this makes NMR spectroscopy more useful in diagnosing diseases. This study was tried to develop the quantitation of the molar concentration of the metabolites in the brain using the proton MR spectroscopy. The spectra of each metabolites was obtained, and the proton MR spectra was obtained from the insula gray matter areas of the 16 volunteers. And this spectra was analyzed to estimated the molar concentrations of the metabolites in the region. The results showed the very similar to those of the others.
This research in the degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls(PCB) has focussed on the use of experimental enrichment cultures to obtain PCB-deading communities and identification of PCB-degrading bacteria accor야ng to pure culture. During 180 days, enrichment culture was performed to obtain PCB-degrading bacteria and initial concentration was injected 1.6 ppm,0.7 ppm, respectively. After 180 days of enrichment culture, PCBs was removed 80-87% and 57-71%. Biodegradation of PCBs was studied according to dominated PCB-degrading bacteria. Biodegraddation of PCBs was 80% in initial concentration of PCBs for 20days, enrichment cultured PCB-degrading bacteria was isolated by pure culture and it was verified to Pseudoxanthomonas sp.
Degradation of structural carbohydrates has been observed in samples of sweet sorghum inoculated with either Clostridium cellulolyticum or Bacteroides succinogenes. However, conditions under which these rellulolytic organisms can compete effectively with lactic acid bacteria have not yet been determined. Degradation of cellulose by B. succinogenes was found not to be inhibited by either glucose or succinate.
In this study, growth enhancing effect of hatchery waste egg decomposed liquid fertilizer in pepper plant cultivation through chlorophyll fluorescence (O-J-I-P) analysis. In a whole growth period, egg decomposed fertilizer treated pepper grew well than non treated plant, though it was not statistically significantly different. Amount of chlorophyll fluorescence of non treated plant was higher thant that of fertilizer treated plant. It is determined that eventually lead to increased photosynthesis. In this study, six parameters, Fo, ABS/RC, RC/ABS, TRo/RC, DI0/RC, and DF Total ABS were the important factors represent efficiency of photochemical responses of pepper plant treated with hatchery waste egg decomposed fertilizer.
According to a series of batch-scale washing tests, SDS+$POE_5$ and $POE_5$+$POE_14$ were determined for the applicable mixed surfactants. Because SDS+$POE_5$ showed slightly negative effects on the microbes in the toxicity tests, $POE_5$+$POE_14$((1:1) 1%) was chosen for this study. In the in-situ flushing experiments, the removal rate of endosulfan was 67% for the injection rate of 1.5L/min/$\textrm{km}^2$. And when methanol and ethanol were added as cosolvent, 75% and 81% removal efficiencies were achieved, respectively. In the tests of bioremediation after the application of in-situ flushing, the removal rates of contaminated soils having 13mg/kg dry soil and 3mg/kg dry soil as initial concentrations were 86% and 81%, respectively. There were no significant degradation after 24 hours. The major rate-limiting factor for the biodegradation of endosulfan might be the mass transfer from soil phase to liquid phase after 24 hours. With the addition of surfactant, 89% removal was achieved after 120 hours. Because the surfactant improved the mass transfer rate, the biodegradation of endosulfan was enhanced. When surfactant and cosolvent were added together, the adaptation period of microorganisms to the surfactant became longer and the removal rates were 84% and 83% for methanol and ethanol, respectively.

The removals of TCE and PCE vapor with or without a supply of toluene as a primary substrate were compared in a biofiltration process, and the variations of microbial communities associated with the removal were also investigated. As a result of investigations on the removals of TCE/PCE in a biofilter B within which TCE/PCE-acclimated sludge was attached on the surface of media without a supply of primary substrate, and those in another biofilter A where toluene-acclimated sludge was attached with a supply of toluene as a primary substrate, followings were found: (i) parts of microbes responsible to the decomposition of toluene vapor participate in the removal of chlorinated VOCs such as TCE and PCE, and (ii) effective biological removals of TCE and PCE vapor do not necessarily need cometabolism. Sequencing of 16S rDNA obtained from the band profile of DGGE (Denaturating Gradient Gel Electrophoresis), it was confirmed that: (i) uncultured alpha proteobacterium, uncultured Desulfitobacterium, uncultured Rhodobacteraceae bacterium, Cupriavidus necator, and Pseudomonas putida were found to be toluene-decomposing microbes, (ii) alpha proteobacterium HTCC396 is a TCE-removing microbe, (iii) Desulfitobacterium sp. is a PCE-decomposing microbe, and (iv) particularly, uncultured Desulfitobacterium sp. is probably a microbe decomposable not only toluene but also various chlorinated VOC vapor including TCE and PCE.
A total of 8 strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis isolated in land-marine tank system of Kyongnam and Kyongbuk. Prefecture were tested for the biological and biochemical characteristics. These strains were isolated from pathologic specimens of cultured flounder. Paralichthys olivaceus. Growth of the isolates was good on BHIA, HIA. Staphylococcus No. 110 and ETGP. Growth was good at NaCl concentration between 2.0 and 3.0%, about $30^{\circ}C$ and at pH values about 7.0. DNase and coagulase production were negative, and all isolates except FSJ-2 strain were positive in hemolysis. Urease was positive reaction, and novobiocin resistance was negative. Acid was produced anaerobically from glucose and maltose. All isolates except FSJ-19 strain produced weakly were negative in anaerobic acid production from mannitol. Acid was produced aerobically from glucose, fructose, galactose, sucrose, maltose and dextrine. But all isolates were not gas production. In characterization of clinically isolates, four different biotype codes were obtained when the all isolated were tested simultaneously. Four different antibiotic susceptibility patterns were obtained. On the basis of these characteristics, the isolates were identified as Staphylococcus epidermidis.

This paper presents a decision making technique of reasonable $O_2$quantity needed to resolve organic matter via microbe in wastewater treatment. Decision making system of inferring reasonable $O_2$quantity consists of three parts. The first part is to compute reasonable $O_2$quantity with given process data. The second part is to find output features of processed wastewater using process model when $O_2$quantity is changed to a value inferred from decision making system. The third part is to show the results of decision making system. In order to verify performance of proposed decision making system computer simulation was done with process data gathered during 40 days. Simulation result shows that $O_2$quantity can be reduced over 10% under the condition of satisfying the specifications for processed wastewater.
This publication provides an overview of the state-of-the-art and perspective of biological $H_2$ production from water and/or organic substances. The biological $H_2$ production processes, being explored in fundamental and applied researches, are direct and indirect biophotolysis from water, photo-fermentation, dark anaerobic fermentation and in vitro $H_2$ production. The development of biological $H_2$ production technology, as an energy carrier, started at the late 1940's in the lab-scale. Now it has a high priority in the world, especially USA, Japan, EU and Korea.
