Flagellimonas eckloniae DOKDO $007^T$, isolated from the rhizosphere of the marine algae Ecklonia kurome collected from Dokdo Island, South Korea, is a marine Flavobacteria belonging to the family Flavobacteriaceae. The genome consists of 4,132,279 bp, 3,527 coding sequences with 37.85% G + C contents and two contigs in one scaffold chromosome. This strain contains a gene encoding proteorhodopsin, as well as other retinal biosynthesis genes, allowing it to utilize sunlight as an energy source. The strain contained only few segment of flagellar constructing gene cluster and this is not consistent with genus name Flagellimonas, therefore, revision of the genus name is required.
The genus Ippa Walker, 1864 is reported for the first time from Korea, with a species I. conspersa (Matsumura, 1931). I. conspersa is generally known as myrmecophiles having ecological relationships with some ant species such as Lasius spp. Photographs of adults, immature stages, and the genitalia of I. conspersa are provided.
This review discusses the pivotal role of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) in angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, vital processes influencing vascular permeability, endothelial cell recruitment, and the maintenance of tumor-associated blood and lymphatic vessels. VEGF exerts its effects through tyrosine-kinase receptors, VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and VEGFR-3. This VEGF-VEGFR system is central not only to cancer but also to diseases arising from abnormal blood vessel and lymphatic vessel formation. In the context of cancer, VEGF and its receptors are essential for the development of tumor-associated vessels, making them attractive targets for therapeutic intervention. Various approaches, such as anti-VEGF antibodies, receptor antagonists, and VEGF receptor function inhibitors, are being explored to interfere with tumor growth. However, the clinical efficacy of anti-angiogenic agents remains uncertain and necessitates further refinement. The article also highlights the physiological role of VEGFs, emphasizing their involvement in endothelial cell functions, survival, and vascular permeability. The identification of five distinct VEGFs in humans (VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and PLGF) is discussed, along with the classification of VEGFRs as typical receptor tyrosine kinases with distinct signaling systems. The family includes VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2, crucial in tumor biology and angiogenesis, and VEGFR-3, specifically involved in lymphangiogenesis. Overall, this review has provided a comprehensive overview of VEGF and VEGFR, detailing their roles in various diseases, including cancer. This is expected to further facilitate the utilization of VEGF and VEGFR as therapeutic targets.

We've reviewed 704 cases of claims by death that had occured for one year from April, 1985 to March, 1986. As a result, we came to following conclusions; First, the greater part of the death were due to Accidental death(25.0%), Malignant neoplasm(21.2%), Heart disease(12.9%), Liver cirrhosis(9.1%), and the cerebrovascular disease(5.5%), which were occupied by 73.7% of the whole. Second, classifying them by medical examinations or non medical, death in case of non medical examinations showed 94.3% of whole. And for age, section ranging from 40 to 49, from 50 to 59, and from 60 to 69 took the overwhelming portion by 28.6%, 24.2%, and 16.6% respectively, those of wich showed 69.4% of the whole. Third, for the period elapsed, death within 1 year from the entrance showed 16.9% and that from 1 year to under 2 years 18.8%, Thus the rate of early death under 2 years stood for 35.7% of the whole.
