The absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic studies on the interaction between thionine (TH) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) have been carried out. The absorption and fluorescence spectral changes of TH with the changes of concentration of SDS are interpreted in terms of i) the aggregation of TH-SDS complex, ii) the stacking process of dye molecules by the association of the TH-SDS complex, iii) breakdown of the stacking due to the formation of dye-rich induced micelles, iv) redistribution of dye molecules in the surface of SDS micelles.
Developmental changes of chlorophyll-protein (CP)-complex and plastid membrane proteins during the greening of rape (Brassica napus L.) cotyledons were examined in order to investigate the effect of benzymladenine (BA) on plastid development. The formation of CP-complexes was slightly promoted by BA treatment in early greening stage, at 24 h and 48 h after illumination. However, BA inhibited the development of CP-complexes at 72 h after illumination. On the profiles of plastid membrane proteins with greening time, it was found that the 24 kd protein was increased and the 56 kd protein was decreased in both water control and BA-treated cotyledons. However, the above two traits were retarded under BA treatment, respectively. From the obtained result, plastid development of rape cotyledon during greening was partially affected by interaction between light and BA dependent on its physiological age.
Heteroplasmic rice plastid transformant was generated using suspension cells as bombardment materials. PCR analyses confirmed incorporation of aadA and cp4-epsps genes into the rice plastid genome by homologous recombination events via the flanking sequences of the trnI and trnA. Transplastomic calli were actively proliferated when cultured on AAM2 medium supplemented with various concentrations (500-3000 mg/L) of streptomycin in dark condition, and transplastomic suspension cells showed resistance to nonselective herbicide, glyphosate. Through 'agarose pie selection' method, heteroplastomic calli, containing considerably high level of transplastome and expressing the CP4 EPSPS protein, were obtained. They were further regenerated to green shoots with healthy roots.

Incontinentia pigmenti(IP), so called Block-Sulzberger syndrome is a rare genodermatosis that occurs almost in female infant; usually lethal in males, X-linked dominantly inherited disorder. IP is characterized by abnormalities of mesodermal and ectodermal tissues including eye, tooth, skin, nail, breast and hair as well as neurological deficiencies. Dental problems are congenital missing of teeth, delayed eruption, abnormal crown shape and so on. Here is a case of 6 year-old female with IP. She had congenital missing of primary and permanent teeth, delayed eruption, maxillary deficiency and extra cusps, resulting in unstable occlusion. Systemically, she had a history of operating eyes due to problem of retina and hyperpigmented macules on her trunk and extremities as typical character of IP.
The object of this study was to improve electrophotographic photoreceptor using metal free-phthalocyanine dye sensitized system. In here a various types of metal free-phthalocyanine and polymers and hydrazone were used as charge generation material(CGM) and binder, respectively, and also the hydrazone derivative or zinc complex was used as charge transport material(CTM). It was found that $x-H_2Pc$ showed the highest sensitivity among the ${\alpha}-$, ${\beta}-$ and x- metal free-phthalocyanine($x-H_2Pc$) as CGM. The photoreceptor made by $x-H_2Pc$ and hydrazone derivative as CGM and CTM, respectively, showed the highest ratio of dark decay having 73.1% and the good sensitivity of $1.50lux{\cdot}sec$ compared to other photoreceptors.
ABSTRACT: The cell fusants were constructed from complementary auxotrophic mutants of Phffia rhodozyma. The nuclear fusion of the fusants was demonstrated by several techniques including comparision of cell volume, estimation of DNA content and nuclear staining. The cell fusants were very stable for succeeding transfer culture on complex medium for more than one year. Malt extract (1%, w/v) and abscisic acid(1 mM) increased the carotenoid formation whereas gibberellic acid(5mM) and riboflavin(0.1 mM) decreased the corresponding content.

The effects of the yeast, Phaffia rhodozyme in the diet on growth, body composition, muscle elasticity and pigmentation of Israeli strain of common carp, colored carp and Nile tilapia were investigated. Ten percent of the yeast was added to semi purified diet as an experimental feed 1. Ten percent of brewers yeast in the semi purified diet (experimental feed 2) was tested for comparing the growth performance between two semi purified diets. A commercial diet was also used for the check of growth rate of the semi purified diets. All experimental fish were fed for 10 weeks. The weight gains among the experimental fish were not significantly different (P>0.05). There were not significantly different in body composition, muscle elasticity among the the fishes fed three experimental diets. There were significant differences (P<0.05) of pigment deposition in the muscle of Israeli strain of common can and on the skin of colored carp between treated and non treated group. But there were no differences of pigment deposition in flesh and skin of tilapia among the three diets.
The non infecting, plant associated bacteria have attracted increased attention for stimulating plant growth and as environmental friendly plant protecting agents. Pink-pigmented facultatively methylotrophic bacteria (PPFMs), classified as Methylobacterium spp., are persistent colonizers of plant leaf surfaces. As the leaves of most or all plants harbor PPFMs that utilize leaf methanol as their sole source of carbon and energy, which is a specific attribute of the genus Methylobacterium. Although they are not well known, these bacteria are co-evolved, interacting partners in plant metabolism. This claim is supported, for example, by the following observations: (1) PPFMs are seed-transmitted, (2) PPFMs are frequently found in putatively axenic cell cultures, (3) Low numbers of seed-borne PPFMs correlate with low germinability, (4) Plants with reduced numbers of PPFM show elevated shoot/root ratios, (5) Foliar application of PPFMs to soybean during pod fill enhances seed set and yield, (6) Liverwort tissue in culture requires PPFM-produced vitamin B12 for growth, (7) treated plants to suppress or decrease disease incidence of sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani in rice, and (8) the PPFM inoculation induced number of stomata, chlorophyll concentration and malic acid content, they led to increased photosynthetic activity. Methylobacterium spp. are bacterial symbionts of plants, shown previously to participate in plant metabolism by consuming plant waste products and producing metabolites useful to the plant. There are reports that inform about the beneficial interactions between this group of bacteria and plants. Screening of such kind of bacteria having immense plant growth promoting activities like nitrogen fixation, phytohormone production, alleviating water stress to the plants can be successfully isolated and characterized and integration of such kind of organism in crop production will lead to increased productivity.
The albino plants of tobacco (Nicotiana tobacum L. cv. BY-4) were isolated from seed populations that were induced by heavy-ion ($^{14}N$) beam irradiation to proembryo and the in vitro growth and differentiation have been characterized. The in vitro cultured albino plants showed significant reduction of chlorophyll content and possessed larger number of stomata on both upper and lower epidermis than that of wild-type plants. Stem growth of the mutants remained dwarfed, however, the internode recovered its normal length after GA$_3$ treatment (10.0mg/L) on the MS medium containing sucrose under continuous light. When explants of leaf blades of albino plants were cultured, multiple shoots formed directly on MS medium containing 1.0mg/L of BAP or kinetin and a large number of calli were induced on the MS medium containing 1.0mg/L NAA or 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D. The albino calli regenerated multiple albino plantlets in the MS medium containing 0.1mg/L NAA + 1.0 mg/L BAP. No significant differences between the wild-type and albino plants were detected in the multiple shoot induction, callus formation from the explants and the plantlets regeneration from calli. In addition, albino plants have a similar organogenesis Pattern to that of the wild-type in the media with different combinations of NAA (0 to 5.0mg/L) and BAP (0 to 5.0mg/L) treatment. These results indicate that the albino mutant has the same normal regeneration ability as that of wild-type, although the mutant has lost functions in photosynthesis, such as pigmentation.
