  • Hue, value, and chroma are the fundamental colour components used in colour property research to identify colour in the digital media environment. In the Munsell colour system, which is based on the characteristics of visual perception, the basic properties are classified into hue, value, and chroma. The methods for recording these three properties can be divided into the colour appearance system and the colour mixing system: in the former, they are documented based on a colour chart that focuses on visual perception, and in the latter, accurate numerical records are kept without concern for discolouration. Colour terminology is crucial for conveying and expressing colours, and colours can be classified and defined according to the combination of hue, value, and chroma. With the development of various media, it has become possible to represent a range of colours previously unachievable, necessitating basic research into the characteristics of colour perception by further subdividing digital-oriented colour studies. In this study, we conducted psychophysical experiments to identify and analyse the categories of value and chroma needed to recognise each colour among the ten representative colours of the Munsell colour system, based on visual perception on a display. This study analyses the results of these experiments, defines their significance as foundational research data on colour perception characteristics, and suggests directions for future research.

  • In this study, under the assumption that there may be differences in colour attributes that can be perceived according to the brightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulus, a test was conducted where colour matching was done for stimulus sizes of $10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ in terms of peripheral vision by varying the background brightness. The test results showed that depending on the background brightness and the specific combinations of the Munsell colour attributes used as the test stimulus, colours can be perceived differently even if they are the same colours. In addition, in contrast to findings from previous studies on colour perception according to the stimulus size, it was found that even if the size of the colour stimulus is relatively small, colours can be perceived more colourfully or more brightly with changes in the background brightness. Based on the findings of this study, degradation in image quality can be improved, which may occur when the size of the input image is changed at a later time, and also, contributions can be made when it comes to the reproduction of effective sold three-dimensional structures that reflect visual qualities when processing 3D holographic imagery, in addition to 2D imagery.

  • The visual sensibility and preferences are closely related with color combinations, stripe intervals, and stripe complexity. We studied the effect of stripes characteristics on visual sensibility and preferences for men's shirts fabrics. As a result of a factor analysis, the adjectives were classified by viewers into 5 factors as attraction, maturity, dignity, practicality, and simplicity. We found that stripe intervals had a significant visual effect on maturity, dignity, and practicality. The uneven stripes had higher scores for dignity and practical while lower for mature. The stripes with consecutive order of two different thickness were felt more strongly in attractive, practical, and preferred. The results also showed that stripes with compound and contrast colors were attractive and preferred.

  • We propose an novel artificial visual attention model that is capable of automatic detection and segmentation of saliency region on natural images in this paper. The proposed model is based on human visual perceptions in biological vision and contains there are main contributions. Firstly, we propose a novel framework of artificial visual attention model based on the opponent process theory using intensity and color features, and an entropy filter is designed to perceive salient regions considering the amount of information from intensity and color feature channels. The entropy filter is able to detect and segment salient regions in high segmentation accuracy and precision. Lastly, we also propose an adaptive combination method to generate a final saliency map. This method estimates scores about intensity and color conspicuous maps from each perception model and combines the conspicuous maps with weight derived from scores. In evaluation of saliency map by ROC analysis, the AUC of proposed model as 0.9256 approximately improved 15% whereas the AUC of previous state-of-the-art models as 0.7824. And in evaluation of salient region segmentation, the F-beta of proposed model as 0.7325 approximately improved 22% whereas the F-beta of previous state-of-the-art models.

  • For an effective pre-treatment process of a face input image, it is necessary to detect each of face components, calculate the face area, and estimate the rotary angle of the face. A proposed method of this study can estimate an robust result under such renditions as some different levels of illumination, variable fate sizes, fate rotation angels, and background color similar to skin color of the face. The first step of the proposed method detects the estimated face area that can be calculated by both adapted skin color Information of the band-wide HSV color coordinate converted from RGB coordinate, and skin color Information using histogram. Using the results of the former processes, we can detect a lip area within an estimated face area. After estimating a rotary angle slope of the lip area along the X axis, the method determines the face shape based on face information. After detecting eyes in face area by matching a partial template which is made with both eyes, we can estimate Y axis rotary angle by calculating the eye´s locations in three dimensional space in the reference of the face area. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the effectuality of proposed algorithm was verified.

  • In this paper, we propose the face anti-spoofing method based on combination of luminance and chrominance with convolutional neural networks. The proposed method extracts luminance and chrominance features independently from live and fake faces by using stacked convolutional neural networks and auxiliary networks. Unlike previous methods, an attention module has been adopted to adaptively combine extracted features instead of simply concatenating them. In addition, we propose a new loss function, called the contrast loss, to learn the classifier more efficiently. Specifically, the contrast loss improves the discriminative power of the features by maximizing the distance of the inter-class features while minimizing that of the intra-class features. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves the significant improvement for face anti-spoofing compared to existing methods.

  • A large volume of data will improve the robustness of deep learning models and avoid overfitting problems. In automatic tongue segmentation, the availability of annotated tongue images is often limited because of the difficulty of collecting and labeling the tongue image datasets in reality. Data augmentation can expand the training dataset and increase the diversity of training data by using label-preserving transformations without collecting new data. In this paper, augmented tongue image datasets were developed using seven augmentation techniques such as image cropping, rotation, flipping, color transformations. Performance of the data augmentation techniques were studied using state-of-the-art transfer learning models, for instance, InceptionV3, EfficientNet, ResNet, DenseNet and etc. Our results show that geometric transformations can lead to more performance gains than color transformations and the segmentation accuracy can be increased by 5% to 20% compared with no augmentation. Furthermore, a random linear combination of geometric and color transformations augmentation dataset gives the superior segmentation performance than all other datasets and results in a better accuracy of 94.98% with InceptionV3 models.

  • Artworks inspired by birds have consistently enjoyed popularity, both in the past and present. Designs featuring birds from mythology have particularly garnered significant admiration. Therefore, this study aims to develop into the jewelry design with bird motifs from "Sanhaegyeong", a representative work of Chinese mythology. The research analyzes the characteristics of birds depicted in "Sanhaegyeong" and investigates design cases inspired by these birds. Birds in "Sanhaegyeong" are broadly categorized into divine birds and monstrous birds. Divine birds are predominantly represented with diverse color combinations and unified tones, while monstrous birds are primarily expressed in contrasting colors such as red, green, and white. The study further scrutinizes the forms, colors, and symbolism of jewelry inspired by birds in "Sanhaegyeong". These works predominantly utilize various colors, green, and red. By integrating shapes and patterns relevant to the era associated with the origin of "Sanhaegyeong", designers applied them in the designs, taking into consideration the contextual background and the relevance of design forms. It is anticipated that these research findings will be valuable to designers intrigued by mythical bird designs.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel seamless video composition method based on shape matching and Poisson equation. Video composition method consists of video segmentation process and video blending process. In the video segmentation process, the user first sets a trimap for the first frame, and then performs a grab-cut algorithm. Next, considering that the performance of video segmentation may be reduced if the color, brightness and texture of the object and the background are similar, the object region segmented in the current frame is corrected through shape matching between the objects of the current frame and the previous frame. In the video blending process, the object of source video and the background of target video are blended seamlessly using Poisson equation, and the object is located according to the movement path set by the user. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance not only in the naturalness of the composite video but also in computational time.
