A new cultivar was preliminarily selected as 'E-No.1' in 2003 for its stable upward flowering habit. The evaluation of characteristics was investigated from 2003 to 2004 in Chuncheon and Yungweol, Kangwon province. 'Eorayeon 1ho' blooms in early July at outside, with high resistance to Botrytis and having upward flowering habit. The plant height is 112.4 cm and the percentage of seed germination is 96.4%. This seed propagating cultivar shows good quality as a cut flower and low blasting rate.

The crossing was made in 1999 between Oriental lily 'Simplon', an outward-facing and white colored cultivar, and 'Spinoza', pink colored cultivar. The first selection was done in 2003 with a line of 'O-03-16'. Multiplication and bulb growth, and performance test was conducted from 2004 to 2006. This selection was later on given as 'Pacific Wave' in 2007 at NHRI. Flowering time of 'Pacific Wave' in plastics house culture is mid June and grows average 115 cm. Flowers are upward-facing with 20.1 cm in diameter and white with yellow centered (RHS W155C + Y9A). Mean petal length and width is 12.2 cm and 4.2 cm, respectively. Leaves are 12.3 cm long, 2.9 cm wide. The throat color is green. It shows gray and purple stigma, and red brown pollen. The weight and size of bulb is 82.5 g and 19.6 cm, respectively. Year-round flowering can be by storing the bulb under -1 to $-2^{\circ}C$ conditions. It is necessary to add calcium to the fertilizer or remove side scales to prevent leaf scorch. It is needed to control Botrytis disease in summer wet season.

  • A FA intersectional hybrid lily cultivar 'Cherry Pink' was developed in 2006 at National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA) Korea. The cross and immature embryo rescue was conducted between female parents Lilium FA hybrid 'Supia' and male parents L. Asiatic hybrid 'A94-9' by cut style pollination method (CSM) at Suwon in 1999. The first selection was done and was tentatively named as 'FA01-17' in 2001. After in vitro multiplication, bulbing production of 'FA01-17' line, growth and flowering characteristic tests were conducted from 2002 to 2005. The evaluation of characteristics and consumer preferences were surveyed at a lily flower show of NIHHS at Taean in 2006. 'Cherry Pink' flowered in the middle of June and grew more than 120 cm stem in length. Flowers bloomed facing upward, a little spotted in petals and deep pink (RHS, RP27D). The pollen of 'Cherry Pink' was sterile. Year-round flowering can be done by storing the bulb under $-1.5^{\circ}C$ conditions. It was needed to control Botrytis disease in wet season.

  • Lilium lancifolium, which is one of the Korean native lilies, possesses several useful genetic characteristics such as growth vigor, bulbil formation and resistance to Fusarium. Hybridization was performed to insert useful traits of Asiatic hybrid "Dreamland" as the male parent with upward direction and dark brown spotless on the petal into L. lancifolium as the female parent. The rate of pollen germination of L. lancifolium and "Dreamland" were 30% and 60%, respectively. The pollen germination ratio of $F_1$ progenies at flowering date was 25-57%, which is between the parents'pollen germination ratio. The individual flowering time was between 113 days and 131 days after planting. Of 99% of all plants, the leaf shape index was more than five, which means that the leaf shape of $F_1$ plants is more influenced by female than male parent. The flower color was separated into four types. 51.5% of the progenies showed orange and 44.2% showed light orange, respectively. The colors seemed to be highly influenced by female parents. Mixed colors of parents, orange yellow and light yellow orange, were 3.1%, 1.2%, respectively. Flowering directions were segregated by three different ways, upside, side, and downside. Side direction, which is medium type between female and male parent, was 73%. All progenies showed lots of spot on petals except one offspring. The percentage of bulbil formation on leaf axil was 49.4%. Among those, the maximum number of bulbil formation was 25. The mean number of bulbil formation per plant was five.

  • An Asiatic lily (Lilium spp.) cultivar 'Onnuri' for cut and pot flower was developed in 2006 at Jeollabukdo Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Iksan, Korea. The cross was made in 1999 between 'Avignon', orange colored, and 'Nove Cento', yellow colored. A line was preliminarily selected as 'A99-6-48' by reason of stable flower color and shape among germinated seedlings. It had been multiplicated through in vitro culture and then bulbed on field during 2002~2003. After characteristics were investigated from 2004 to 2005, finally it was named as an 'Onnuri' in 2006. Flower of 'Onnuri' belongs to orange-red group with its center shown orange group. Plant height is 92.8 cm, flower size is medium as 13.8 cm. Stigma color is red-brown and blooming direction is upward-facing. Flowering time is mid-June.

  • A new Asiatic hybrid lily 'Redsky' cultivar was selected from a cross between 'Vivaldi' cultivar with pale pink color flower as mother plant and 'Prato' with orange colored flower in 2000 year. The selected bulb line was propagated and cultivated for line nomenclature as 'Gonong-F-na-10'. The survey of the growth and flower characteristics of 'Gonong-F-na-10' were conducted from 2005 to 2007 on summer cropping system under structure in Highland Agriculture Research Center, NICS, RDA. After all 'Gonong-F-na-10' was named as 'Redsky'. The flowers of the 'Redsky' cultivar had not soft hair and fragrance, and had orange red (O-R N30D) colored petals with dark brown spots in center of flower. The stem color was dark pink and brown caused by anthocyanin pigment, the stigma and pollen colors were brown. Flowering direction was upward. The flowering date was July 7 so early flowering. The plant height was 97.2 cm so long, number of flowers was 4.9 ea, and length of flower bud was 9.3 cm. The bulb weight was about 34.8 g and its bulb size was about 14.8 cm in circumference. 'Redsky' cultivar was registered as a new variety with No. 3119 in Korea Seed and Variety Service on June of 2010.

  • An Asiatic lily cultivar 'Yeri' was developed in 2005 at National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea. The cross was made in 1993 between Asiatic lily 'Geneve', a light pink colored cultivar, and 'Montreux', deep purple colored cultivar. The first selection was done and was tentatively named as 'A95-68' in 1995. After in vitro multiplication and bulbing production, growth and flowering characteristic tests were conducted from 1996 to 2003. The evaluation of characteristics was performed and named as 'Wongyo C1-19' in 2005 that was registered as 'Yeri' to the registration office of Korea Seed & Variety Service. 'Yeri' flowered at the first of July and grew average 34.6 cm stem in length. Flowers bloomed facing upward, unspotted in petals and deep purple (RHS, RP58A). The size of flower was 13.3 cm. Mean petal length and width was 7.7 cm and 2.7 cm, respectively. Leaves were 5.1 cm long and 0.5 cm wide, respectively. The weight and size of bulb were 9.6 g and 11.7 cm, respectively. Year-round flowering can be done by storing the bulb under $-1.5^{\circ}C$ conditions. For forced cultivation, it was necessary to add calcium to the fertilizer or remove side scales to prevent leaf scorch. It was needed to control Botrytis disease in wet season.
