  • We have studied the effects of red ginseng root extract on the decrease of UV-induced genotoxicity in cultured NIH3T3 cells. The increase in survival and the recovery from DNA synthesis inhibition in UV-irradiated cells as a function of normal medium incubation time was potentiated by the presence of the ginseng extract. The extract also increased the UV-induced excision repair as determined by unscheduled DNA synthesis. The amount of UV-induced DNA single strand breaks that are accumulated by polymerase inhibitors was significantly increased by the presence of the extract. These results suggest that the red ginseng extract activates the incision/excision step of UV-induced repair and could be used as a reagent for protecting UV-induced genotoxicity and cytotoxicity.

Effects of Chitooligosaccharides on Liver Function in the Mouse (Chitooligosaccharide가 생쥐의 간 기능에 미치는 영향)

  • Chitosan is the deacetylated product of chitin. Chitosan and its derivatives have many properties that make them attractive for a wide variety of health applications. This study was performed to investigate some effects of water soluble chitooligosaccharides on liver function in the mouse. The animals given the sterol diet containing 3% cholesterol for 6 weeks showed increase in plasma cholesterol level, which were lowered by 23% when they were fed on 1% chotooligosaccharide. While there was no significant change in liver cholesterol and plasma HDL-cholesterol levels. Continuous administration of 15% ethanol via drinking water to mice for 8 weeks elicited pathological alterations such as inflammation, necrosis, accumulation of lipid droplets in the liver and increase in GPT activity, while simultaneous administration of ethanol and chitooligosaccharide prevented remarkedly ethanol-induced liver injury; there was no observable lipid droplet and GPT activity was decreased by 25% in the liver. These results suggest that chitooligosaccharide play some roles in liver function, such as reducing the plasma cholesterol level and preventing alcoholic liver disease.

후각장애환자의 후각기능평가

  • 후각장애를 가져오는 질환에는 비, 부비동 질환, 두부외상, 상기도 감염, 간질 및 노인성치매 등의 신 경게 질환, 칼만증후군과 같은 대사성 질환 등이 있으나, 현실적으로 후각장애의 정도를 측정하기가 쉽 지않고, 후각역치가 개인간에 차이가 많아 아직 연구가 미진한 상태이다. 특히 교통사고나 산업현장에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 두부외상이나 독성화학물질 등에 의해 후각장애가 많이 나타나고 있으나 아직 보상의 기준이 없어 환자들이 어려움을 겪고 있다. 두부손상 후에 발생하는 후각장애는 병원에서도 놓치기 쉬우며, 알아내더라도 두렷한 치료방법이 없기 때문에 간과되어온 것이사실이다. 그러나, 이런 후각장애 환자들은 집안에서 가스가 새는 것을 느끼지 못하며, 화재로연기가 나더라도 알아차리지 못하고, 음식이 상해도 잘 모르므로 위험에 빠지기가 쉽고, 후각에 이상이 있으면 자연적으로미각도 감소하므로 식욕도 떨어지고, 때로는 우울증에 빠지기도하며, 주부의 경우에는 음식을 만들기가 어렵게 된다. 두부외상을 받은 전체 환자 의 약5 -10%에서 후각장애가 나타나는 것으로 알려져 있으나, 냄새가 나지만 정확히 무슨 냄새인지 이름을 대지 못하거나 어떤 냄새를 다른 냄새와 감별하지 못하는 경우까지 합하면 대개 20-30%로 생각된다. 두부 손상 후의 후각장애의 정도는 얼마나 크게다쳤는 가에 달려있지만, 조금 다치더라도 후각장애가 심한 경우도 있다.

  • Cellular Phone use while driving is one of the critical causes of traffic accident by falling the driver into the improper lookout and inattention situations by disturbing the driving behaviors and by increasing the driver's mental workloads. These days, therefore, governments in many countries are trying to Prohibit the cellular Phone use while driving by the law focused on the hand-held type of cellular phone. This Paper investigated the impacts on the hands-free cellular Phone use while driving to the drivers Performance among normal and two different level of secondary task driving conditions in the urban of Japan. As the results, quantitative differences of drivers eye movement, subjective mental workload, steering wheel angle entropy, and cognitive Performance of secondary tasks were compared between straight and curve (right turn) section for each driving condition.

  • In this paper, the development of an adjustable load limiter is presented, which is a component of the seat belt. The adjustable load limiter is loaded at different levels for varied weights and heights of occupant. The recent regulation FMVSS 208 demands strict safety standards for different percentiles of dummy size. In this work, high- and low-level load conditions are proposed according to dummy scale and thoracic injury criteria. The suggested load conditions were verified by performing a sled test using the benchmark model. A dual-level load limiter has been developed on the basis of these tests. Experiments were conducted on the product performance, and finite element analysis was carried out; the results confirmed the points for improvement.

  • This paper examines if China' each province.city manages its organization well after China's WTO affiliation; and on the ground, judges how much each province city needs to improve. China's each province city data from 2002 to 2006 is used to evaluate technical efficiency by using the input-oriented CCR model and the input-oriented BCC model. Analytical results show that only Shanghai gets continuously the highest efficiency score from 2002 to 2006 and so the other provinces cities need to benchmark Shanghai to elevate their efficiency. There can be regional, cultural and emotional differences among the provinces cities but Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang get low efficiency scores even after China's WTO affiliation. The Chinese government can make use of efficiency evaluation results by DEA as basic materials in making economic development schemes in order to reduce these deviations as various minority races constitutes China and there are regional deviations of degree of economic development in China.

감마선조사 생약재(H-113)의 산화적 생체손상 억제효과 안정성 평가

  • 건조 생약재의 위생화 수단으로 방사선 조사 기술의 적용 가능성을 검토하기 위하여 감마선 조사 생약의 효능 변화유무를 평가하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 감마선 조사 시료와 비조사 시료가 생체의 산화적 손상을 억제하는 효과를 비교하기 위하여 방사선에 의한 산화적 손상에 대한 효과를 측정하였다. 감마선 조사(10 kGy) 생약재(H-113) 및 비조사 생약재(H-113) 추출물을 처리하여 배양한 사람 림프구에 방사선을 조사한 후, 단세포전기영동(single-cell gel electrophoresis, SCGE; comet assay)을 수행하여 DNA 상해 경감정도를 관찰하였다. 또한 방사선 조사 및 비조사 생약재(H-113) 추출물을 투여한 생쥐에 8 Gy의 감마선을 조사한 후, 간에서 지질과산화 정도를 비교·관찰하였다. 한편 DPPH 라디칼과 hydroxyl 라디칼 소거효과를 시험관내에서 상호 비교하였다. 감마선 조사 생약재(H-113)는 단세포전기영동, 지질과산화, DPPH 및 hydroxyl 라디칼 소거시험에서 비조사 생약재 (H-113)와 유사한 효과를 나타내어 효능 차이가 인정되지 않았다. 이는 생약재의 여러 가지 고유 효능 중 일부의 안정성을 확인한 것으로 생각되며, 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 감마선 조사 생약재의 고유 효능의 안정성에 관한 체계적인 연구결과를 얻는다면 생약재의 위생화 수단으로 감마선 조사 기술의 이용이 실용화될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

The characterization of transgenic Chrysanthemum under low temperature condition (저온저항성 유전자가 도입된 국화 형질전환체 특성)

  • Previous studies on genetic transformation of chrysanthemum using cold regulated gene (BN115) have been conducted and the PCR and Real-Time PCR based method to determine the presence of the transferred cold regulated gene in the chrysanthemum was established. To check whether over-expression of BN115 gene in transgenic chrysanthemum will enhance their tolerance to cold stress, the transgenic chrysanthemum were grown under low temperature condition and several cold signalling including growth characteristics, stoma size and shape, SPAD value and ion leakage test were investigated. The transgenic chrysanthemum in the low temperature growth chamber grow much faster in term of the height, number and size of the leaves than those of wild-type plants and damage of transgenic plant caused by the low temperature was much less than that of wild-type plants. The stoma type and size of transgenic plant leaves grown at $5^{\circ}C$ were much similar to of wild-type plant cultured on $25^{\circ}C$ It has been found that SPAD value of transgenic plants was much higher than those of wild-type, but the EC density being lower under low temperature condition.

  • 과실은 재배기술, 재배환경의 영향으로 형상, 색택, 병충해로 인한 상해 정도가 다르게 나타나기 때문에 상품성이 매우 다양하게 결정된다. 또한 수확, 저장, 포장, 수송, 상하차 등 유통과정에서 기계적 손상이 발생할 수 있으며 유통기간이 길어짐에 따라 호흡 및 증산작용 등과 같은 생리적 작용으로 인하여 부패 및 변질이 발생하며 이러한 유통과정 중에서 발생하는 과실의 품질저하가 상당한 수준에 이르고 있으나, 이에 대한 관심은 매우 낮은 실정이다. 또한, 대부분의 청과물은 수확 후 소비되기까지 장기간의 저장으로 품질 변화가 발생할 수도 있다.   • 자동차 승객 안전에 대한 요구가 점차 확대 되어감에 따라 전방 충격으로부터 승객의 상해를 감소시키기 위한 각종 승객 안전장치 중 하나로, 에어백 시스템은 정면충돌 시 승객 사망률을 약 30%정도 저감시킬수 있다. 에어백은 충돌 시 일정한 힘 이상을 받게 되면 작동하도록 설계하여야 한다. 본 논문은 CATIA를 이용하여 3차원 설계를 하였으며, 해석 프로그램을 이용하여 사출성형품의 구조해석 및 사출 해석을 하여 최적화 하였다.
