Effects of Cognitive Impairment on Self-reported Hearing Handicap in Older Adults with Early-stage Presbycusis (초기 노인성 난청자에서 인지장애가 일상생활 듣기 어려움에 미치는 영향)

  • Everyday hearing handicap caused by presbycusis ultimately reduces quality of life in older adults. The aim of this study was to explore effects of cognitive impairment on self-reported hearing handicap in older adults with early-stage presbycusis. We compared K-HHIE scores between 40 elderly subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and age- and hearing-threshold matched 40 cognitively normal elderly (CNE) subjects. The results are as follows: 1) The MCI group scored significantly higher than the CNE group on the social/situational and emotional sections, and in total. 2) The MCI group scored significantly higher than the CNE group on all four subscales, and the most significant group difference was on the first subscale relating to interpersonal relationships and social handicaps. 3) Both groups scored highest on the item 8 (problems hearing whispering sounds) and item 15 (problems hearing TV or radio sounds). Besides those two items, the MCI group also scored high on the item 21 (problems hearing in a restaurant), item 6 (problems hearing when attending a party), item 3 (avoiding groups of people), and item 20 (personal or social restrictions). Our findings suggest that, among older adults with early-stage presbycusis, older adults with cognitive impairment tend to report greater everyday hearing handicap than their peers with normal cognitive function. Especially, they show significant problems hearing in background noise or multi-talker situations, which cause social restrictions and social/emotional loneliness.

  • Relevance Feedback(RF), a method to use perceptual feedback in image retrieval, refines a query by the relevance information from a user. However, the user's feedback information is thrown away as soon as a search session ends. So, this paper proposes an enhanced version of RF, which is designed to accumulate human perceptual responses over time through relevance feedback and to dynamically combine the accumulated high-level relevance information with low-level features to further improve the retrieval effectiveness. Experimental results are presented to prove the potential of the proposed RF.

  • 시각적 선택에 대한 과거 정신물리학적, 신경 생리학적 연구결과를 토대로 Feature Gate 라는 신경 망 모형을 제안하였다. 이 모형에는 공간 배치도가 위계 적으로 구성되어 있으며, 정보의 흐름이 위계의 각 수준으로부터 그 다음 수준으로 넘어갈 때 주의 게이트에 의해 조절되도록 되어 있다. 주의 게이트들은 독특한 세부 특징을 가진 위치에 반응하는 상향식 시스템과 표적 세부 특징이 있는 위치에 반응하는 하향식 기제 모두에 의해 조절된다. 본 연구는 Feature Gate 모형의 하향식 기제에 초점을 맞추어 모형을 설명하고, 현재 다른 모형들이 설명하지 못하는 Moran & Desimone(1985)의 연구결과를 이 모형이 어떻게 설명하는지를 제시하고자 한다. Feature Gate 모형은 병렬 적인 세부특징 검색, 계열 적 접합표적 검색, 단서에 의한 주의의 점진적 감소 모형, 세부특징-주도적인 공간적 선택, 주의의 분할, 방해자극 위치의 억제, 주변 억제 등을 포함한 시각적 주의 연구의 여러 가지 많은 현상들을 설명하는데 하나의 일관적인 해석을 제공해 준다. 앞으로 이 모형을 더욱 확장, 발전 시켜 세부특징의 조합된 배열에 반응하는 상위 수준의 유닛을 사용한다면 시각적 선택과정이 포함된 형태 재인 모형으로 개발될 수 있다.

  • HANTEC1.0은 12만 건의 문서집합과 30개의 질의집합, 그리고 각 질의에 대한 적합문서로 구성된 정보검색용 한글 테스트 컬렉션이다. 본 연구에서는 HANTEC1.0의 확장 및 보완하기 위해 과학기술분야 20개의 질의를 추가하였는데, 질의 추가를 위해서 일본 NACSIS 테스트 컬렉션의 질의를 번역하여 사용함으로써 한일 교차언어 검색환경을 조성하고자 하였다. 추가된 각 질의에 대해서는 여러 검색기에서 총 41가지 검색방법으로 검색한 후, 각 검색조합의 상위 50개 문서로 구성된 중간 결과집합을 만들었으며, 이를 대상으로 적합성판정에 대한 평가기준 및 절차 교육이 이루어진 평가자가 각 질의에 대한 적합성평가를 실시하였다. 이렇게 구축된 HANTEC 테스트 컬렉션의 적합문서 집합의 객관적 품질 평가와 시스템 성능평가를 위하여 통계적인 방법을 적용하므로써 공신력있고 일반화된 테스트 컬렉션을 구축하고자 하였다. 현재 HANTEC2.0은 검색분야 연구자 및 개발자에게 자유롭게 배포 중이며 정복머색 시스템의 신뢰도 측정을 목적으로 하는 학술대회의 연구결과 발표 및 제품 비교 등에 활용되어질 것이다.

The Relationships among Students' Mapping Understanding, Mapping Errors and Cognitive/Affective Variables in Learning with Analogy (비유를 사용한 수업에서 학생들의 인지적.정의적 특성과 대응 이해 및 대응 오류 유형과의 관계)

  • In this study, we investigated the differences of mapping understanding and the types of mapping errors by the levels of students' cognitive/affective variables and the relationships between mapping understanding and these variables in learning 'concentration and reaction rate' with analogy. After administering the tests regarding logical thinking ability, visual imagery ability, analogical reasoning ability, self efficacy, and need for cognition as pretests, students learned with analogy. Then, students' familiarity and mapping understanding were examined. Analyses of the results revealed that the scores of the mapping understanding for the students with higher levels of all cognitive/affective variables except visual imagery ability and familiarity were significantly higher than those for the students with lower levels. The differences in the types of the mapping errors such as overmapping, failure to map, impossible mapping, artificial mapping, mismapping, rash mapping, and retention of a base feature were also found by the levels of students' cognitive and affective variables. The scores of students' mapping understanding were positively correlated with those of all cognitive and affective variables. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that students' science achievement, logical thinking ability, and familiarity were significant predictors of mapping understanding. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Analysis on Efficiency of Hierarchical Structure for a Grid Transit Network (격자형 대중교통 노선망의 위계구조 효율성 분석)

  • This study analyzed whether a transit network with hierarchy is efficient or not, and if transit network hierarchy has cost efficiency, then which condition guarantees the efficiency of the transit network hierarchy. The authors modeled the total cost of the transit network and suggested the conditions in which the transit network hierarchy has cost efficiency through comparing the cost of the transit network with and without hierarchy. The efficiency of transit network hierarchy is guaranteed when the travel cost savings induced by using a higher hierarchy transit network is larger than the increasing non-travel cost, which is the sum of access cost, waiting cost, and operating cost, induced by the introduction of a higher hierarchy transit network. This result is consistent with common sense and with the concept of cost and benefit analysis. If a passenger traveling within the area divided by a higher hierarchy transit network uses only a lower hierarchy transit network and the passenger traveling out of the area divided by the higher hierarchy transit network uses both lower and higher hierarchy transit networks, the travel demand using the higher hierarchy transit network is inversely proportional to the square of the line spacing. This means that the transit network becomes more efficient and small increases of travel demand guarantee the efficiency of the transit network hierarchy as the connectivity of the network becomes higher. This result shows that transit networks have economies of aggregation. This study is the first analytical research on transit network hierarchy and is expected to be a basis for numerical research. However, numerical research should complement this study, since analytical research has some limitations for considering a real network.

Analysis of Emotion Pattern for Game Player on Quest System : Towards of Tutorial Mode in Mabinogi Game (퀘스트 시스템에 대한 게임플레이어의 감정패턴 분석 : 마비노기 Tutorial Mode를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze players' emotion pattern for conducting a quest in Role Playing Game(RPG). We have rebuilt up the action and content of gameplay related to category to set up five action classes of game players based on the literature review about the human behavior classification. Moreover, Mabinogi game includes the composition of various quests by story-centered expanse. We classified the quest structure of the tutorial mode, initial state, of its game into the cognitive action. We build the model of the correlation between cognitive behavior patterns of gameplay and emotions derived from targeting ten novices. The result of this research reveals that gameplayers' stimulus levels are identified to emotion pattern. It is enable to grope to concrete the design of the quest and the level in a specified state. Moreover, players' emotion variation is indicated to the type of expression of fun elements. We expect to use a device to induce the curiousness and the challenge for conducting the higher goal of game in the whole.

A case study on the impact of the concept of the common divisor on relational understanding of the common multiple and least common multiple (공약수의 Schema가 공배수와 최소공배수의 관계적 이해에 미치는 영향에 대한 사례연구)

  • In this study, the following topics were investigated targeting elementary school students: Schema formed through precise notion of cognitive and the connection of the concepts when studying common divisor, common multiple, and the lowest common multiple, configuration ability and problem solving of the students when learning using a modified schema, how the schema of the student to advance to a higher level, and how the deformation of the schema is carried out student's configuration of concept and problem solving ability. As a result, it was found out that cognition about precise concept, schema and the modified schema are important factors when a primary concept was developed into a secondary concept, and play important roles when the connection and the formation of the modified schema created by cognition about the precise primary concept rather than by the formation of the secondary concept (formation of the secondary schema) created by the connection between the primary concept.

Analysis of Features of Korean Eighth Grades' TIMSS 2015 Achievement in Chemistry (우리나라 중학생들의 TIMSS 2015 화학 영역 성취 특성 분석)

  • The goal of this study is to investigate the features of Korean eighth graders' achievement and its trend in Chemistry in TIMSS 2011 and TIMSS 2015, and to explore its implications for Korean science curriculum and in teaching science. With three science educators and six science teachers, we analyzed the characteristics of Korean eighth graders' achievement in Chemistry by test-curriculum matching analysis. According to the trend analysis of science topics with released items for Chemistry in TIMSS 2015, Korean students' percentage for correct answers has dropped in topics such as regularities in chemical reactions, oxidation-reduction, etc. since these topics are covered after the ninth grade in the 2009 revised curriculum. For science cognitive domains, Korean students showed weaknesses in 'applying' domain in TIMSS 2015. Based on the results, we suggested implications for improvement in middle school chemistry curriculum and how to improve science teaching and learning for students' better science competencies and real-world application of science knowledge.

Analysis on Characteristics of South Korean Senior Consumers' Needs: With Maslow's 7-Levels of Needs Hierarchy (한국 시니어 소비자의 욕구 특성 분석: 매슬로우의 욕구위계 이론을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and characteristics of Korean senior consumers. To this end, the factors of Maslow's seven-levels of needs hierarchy were re-established and applied to suit the actual situation in Korea. For analysis, an online survey was conducted on 440 adults (50-75 years old), who are considered active seniors living in Korea, on the factors of 7-levels of needs and demographic characteristics. The study found that the 7-levels needs of Korean senior consumers were derived in a different order from Maslow's. Other diverse theoretical and practical implications were also presented.
