Standard Wire Harness Designs in Commercial Vehicles Based on Control Types and Functional Blocks (동작 방식과 기능별 회로 분류에 기반한 상용차 배선 회로 표준화 방안)

  • This paper presents a standardization method for designing wire harness systems, based on the control types and functional blocks, for use in commercial vehicles. With a rapid increase in the installation of systems with added new features, it is very important to develop a reliable wire harness design in a short time by standardizing wire harness designs and reusing the standard design. Because the function of a system, particularly, for commercial vehicles, varies significantly on the basis of the requirements, regulations, and options, it is not effective to establish one standard design for one system. In addition, a system with the same function may differ in terms of the input conditions and output loads on the basis of the installed vehicle types, and it is not practical to standardize a harness design targeting an entire system. In this study, the wire harness designs of a system were classified into six categories based on the control types of the system: switch driven, control of a switch, control of an electronic control unit, unit driven, control of a unit, and connector operation. Then, a wire harness design of each system was divided into three blocks according to their functions: the control, drive, and monitoring blocks. The standard wire harness designs were made for each functional block of each control type. The advantage of this proposed method is that an effective and practical design can be obtained, which covers the diversities in the same system for different grades of commercial vehicles with a reduction in the number of wire harness supplements.

  • Architecture-based competition has become a very important issue in many industries. As companies seek lower cost, fast development, and more customizability at the same time, modular architecture of products and processes seem to be an inevitable choice. Existing literature, however, has only focused on the basic contents of architecture-based competition. Different competitive environments and technological competencies of incumbent companies influence the evolutionary dynamics of dominant architecture of industries. In this paper we suggest a new theoretical framework to deal with the complex co-adaptation process of architecture-based competition. We first explore the emerging modular architecture in Chinese commercial vehicle industry, and then compare it with the architecture strategies of Korean companies. Based on the explorative case study, we propose new hypotheses relating the market demand, technological competencies of major players and dominant architecture in an indus-try.

A Study for the Fuel Economy Improvement of a Heavy Duty Engine in Commercial Vehicles(II) (상용차 탑재 대형엔진의 차량연비 개선 연구(II))

  • Recently, studies conducted by our research group, revealed the possibility for reducing BSFC, NOx and PM emissions to meet the Euro 4 & 5 legislations. The main objective of the present study is to get better fuel economy in commercial vehicles by considering real driving conditions. Firstly, in order to improve fuel economy on fields, specifically it is required to analyze the driving pattern and make the representative modes from real field data. Secondly, it is performed to make the engine dynometer test to optimize the fuel consumption by reflecting on the representative driving modes, based on the Korea 2008 emission legislation equal to the Euro 4. The engine components such as engine calibration, combustion chamber, turbocharger and ancilliaries were modified to optimize vehicle fuel economy over a typical customer drive cycle whilst still meeting the exhaust emission restrictions. Finally, these results were confirmed by field testing of vehicle equipped with the updated calibration engine. It was placed the two vehicles together traveling the same route and accomplishing the same amount of stops(back to back), in order to evaluate the fuel consumption in comparison to the current vehicle. Through several repeats such as the engine calibration and field test, we could get 3 % to 7.7 % vehicle fuel economy improvements compared to previous vehicle.

지상파 4K UHDTV 제1차 실험방송 결과와 향후 추진 계획

  • 지상파 방송 4사(KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS)는 지난 2012년 10월 9일부터 12월 31일까지 3개월간 KBS 관악산 송신소에서 지상파 상용망에서 4K-UHDTV(Ultra High Definition Television) 실험방송을 실시하였다. 세계 최초로 이루어진 실험인 만큼, 국내뿐만 아니라 미국, 일본, 유럽의 DTV 선진국에서도 많은 관심을 보였다. 무선국 허가에서부터 송출, 전송, 수신, 평가 등 실험방송 기획, 구축 및 운용은 KBS에서 담당하였고, KBS를 포함한 각 사들은 4K UHDTV 실험방송용 콘텐츠의 기획, 제작, HEVC 부호화, TS 스트림 다중화를 담당하였다. 본 실험방송을 통해 지상파 방송사들은 6MHz 대역에서 4K-UHDTV 서비스 실현 가능성을 확인하고, 콘텐츠 제작 노하우를 확보하였다. 더불어 방송망 계획을 위한 전송, 부호화, 수신 파라미터 도출에 성공하였다. 2012년의 1차 실험방송에서는 6MHz 대역을 활용한 100W급 4K-30프레임 송수신 실험, 관악산 송신소 중심 5km 반경 15개 지점에 대한 필드테스트를 실시하였다. 2013년에는 1kW급 4K-60 프레임 중심의 제2차 실험방송을 추진하고 있으며, 이는 상용 방송네트워크를 활용한 4K UHDTV의 조기 실현 가능성을 다각도로 파악할 가치 있는 기회가 될 것이다.

  • Although the development of electric vehicles or electric commercial vehicles is underway in Korea, most companies are seeking to enter the global market because it is difficult to expand their business only in the domestic market. In addition, it is recognized that the country has difficulties in responding to regulations or related procedures when entering overseas markets, and due to such difficulties, it is not possible to gain opportunities to enter the market and gain the technical advantage. Therefore, it is necessary to support individual companies to overcome the difficulties of promoting and exporting products by establishing a pre-cycle support environment for technology development so that development parts can be installed in small electric commercial vehicles. Therefore, this study tried to understand the necessity and factors of small electric commercial vehicles for major ASEAN countries, and as a result, most of them raised the urgency and necessity of joint research.In addition, human resource development, government support, and technical support were suggested as the necessary factors for the study.

Characteristics of Lightweight Hydraulic Directional Control Valve for Emergency Steering in Hybrid Electric Commercial Vehicles (하이브리드 상용차용 경량 비상조향장치 유압방향제어밸브의 성능특성 연구)

  • Hydraulic directional control valves actuated by solenoid are used to control emergency steering in general or hybrid electric commercial vehicles. In this study, a new lightweight hydraulic directional control valve was designed by flow and structural simulation, and was fabricated; the basic operation, pressure differentials, and inner leakage flow were evaluated experimentally. In the results, the new model showed comparable performance with an existing imported valve. New valve was 80% the weight of the existing valve and had few components. Installing this valve on a truck body is easier because of its compactness and small size.

  • 냉동차량은 이동 또는 정차 중에도 냉동 부하에 일정 온도를 유지 시켜야한다. 종전의 상용차량에 냉동시스템은 차량의 엔진과 연계하여 압축기를 구동하거나 엔진과 연계된 발전기의 전력을 이용하여 일정 온도를 유지하였다. 이러한 방식은 제어가 쉽지 않고 효율이 낮은 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 개선하고자 냉동차량이 정차 중인 무시동 기관에서도 일정 온도를 유지 할 수 있도록 센서리스 제어방식이 적용된 3상 인버터를 제안하였다.

  • 대용량 전동기에는 역률보상용 콘덴서와 리액터를 설치하여 부하역률을 개선하고 있다. 역률보상용 콘덴서의 기동리액터 전.후단 설치지점에 따른 특성변화를 해석한 결과 콘덴서를 기동 리액터 전단에 설치한 경우 기동시의 순간적인 콘덴서 돌입전류로 상용주파수 부근의 고조파(1,3,5차) 공진이 발생하여 이로 인한 과전압이 콘덴서와 직렬리액터에 반복적으로 인가되어 수명이 단축됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 기동초기에 발생하는 과전압을 저감하기 위해서 콘덴서 회로의 연결점을 기동리액터 후단에 설치한 결과 인가전압과 전류가 감소됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • Rollover accidents are a common occurrence on the highway ramp section. At highway ramp section, unexpected situations might occur due to demand on complex steering control unlike routine driving maneuver in the main streamline. Commercial vehicles have higher risk of rollover due to their high center of gravity. In this study, the lateral acceleration causing rollover would be found. In addition, sections would be classified as dangerous and safe ones by confirming the maximum lateral acceleration for various speed and curvature.

  • In this study, numerical analysis was conducted to understand the flow characteristics of lubrication system in a manual transmission installed in a commercial vehicle. Also, the analysis was conducted with the purpose of improving the heat and lubricative condition of the transmission. Discharging flow rates on each oil hole outlet according to various engine rotating speed and the length of oil hole branch was calculated. In conclusion, as engine rotating speed is high and the length of oil hole branch is long, the discharging flow rate is high by virtue of the centrifugal force. In addition, this study proposed data for optimal design of lubrication system in manual transmission for a commercial vehicle.
