The effect of supervisor humor on subordinates' job satisfaction: Mediating effects of LMX and CWX (상사유머가 부하의 직무만족에 미치는 영향: LMX와 CWX의 매개효과 검증)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of supervisor humor on LMX and CWX. LMX and CWX on subordinates' job satisfaction. Additionally, we attempt to test the mediating roles of LMX and CWX on the relationships between supervisor humor and subordinates' job satisfaction. To verify the proposed hypotheses, we collected 230 data of employees in various industry. The major findings are as follows: 1) supervisor humor is positively associated with LMX and CWX. 2) LMX and CWX are positively associated with subordinates' job satisfaction. 3) LMX and CWX partially mediate the relationship between supervisor humor and subordinates' job satisfaction. We provided implications of the research results and recommendations for future research.

Impact of Supervisor's Humor on Civil Servant's Innovative Work Behavior (상사유머가 공무원의 혁신적 업무행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The study aims to positively analyze the impact of superiors' humor perceived by staff on the latter's innovative work behaviors among all other factors determining an individual's inclination to innovation. The summary of the results is as follows. First, senior superiors' humor is closely related to innovative work behaviors, which is also statistically significant. Second, superiors' affects job commitment to a significant extent. Third, job commitment produces such effects of an mediating variable in the relationship between superiors' and innovative work behaviors on the part of their staff. The results present an empirical lesson that a superiors plays a great role in the process of innovation in the public sector. Therefore, this study concludes that it is necessary to systemize education and training system for superiors in terms of management of a public organization. Empirical studies of innovative behaviors of superiors are likely to contribute to developing the theories of organizational behaviors.

An Empirical Study on the Effect of Humor Sense of Leader on Innovative Behavior and the Moderating Effects of Empowerment (리더의 유머감각이 구성원의 혁신행동에 미치는 영향 및 임파워먼트의 조절효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this research are to examine the effect of humor sense of leader on innovative behavior and to examine the moderating effects of empowerment on the relationship between humor sense of leader and innovative behavior. For these purposes, literature review and survey research were conducted. The 350 questionnaires were sent to the 10 manufactural firms in the Pusan and Kyungsang Nam-Do region for empirical analysis. Total 276 usable responses were collected(effective response rate : 78.86%). The major findings of the empirical research are as follows ; First, generation of humor, use of humor, attitude of humor and evaluation of humor which are composed factors of humor sense of leader have positive influence innovative behavior. Second, composed factors of humor sense of leader have differential influence on innovative behavior by empowerment. In conclusion, humor sense of leader is expected to improve innovative behavior which is individual behavior in an organization. Therefore, managers have to develop innovative behavior by exhibiting humor sense, considering empowerment.
