Robust GPU-based intersection algorithm for a large triangle set (GPU를 이용한 대량 삼각형 교차 알고리즘)

  • Computing triangle-triangle intersections has been a fundamental task required for many 3D geometric problems. We propose a novel robust GPU algorithm to efficiently compute intersections in a large triangle set. The algorithm has three stages:k-d tree construction, triangle pair generation, and exact intersection computation. All three stages are executed on GPU except, for unsafe triangle pairs. Unsafe triangle pairs are robustly handled by CLP(controlled linear perturbation) on a CPU thread. They are identified by floating-point filtering while exact intersection is computed on GPU. Many triangles crossing a split plane are duplicated in k-d tree construction, which form a lot of redundant triangle pairs later. To eliminate them efficiently, we use a split index which can determine redundancy of a pair by a simple bitwise operation. We applied the proposed algorithm to computing 3D Minkowski sum boundaries to verify its efficiency and robustness.

  • 광선추적법에서 계산시간의 대부분은 광선과 물체와의 교차 검사에 사용된다. 그러므로 빠른 교차검사는 광선추적 알고리즘의 속도 증가를 가져올 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 광선 추적 알고리즘을 이용하여 삼각형이나 사각형등의 물체로 구성된 이미지를 생성할 때 전처리과정(preprocessing)에서 미리 계산된 두 상수 vector $\hat{u}$$\hat{v}$을 이용하여 지금까지 알려진 방법보다 빠른 교차 검사를 수행함으로써 속도를 향상 시키는 방법을 제안한다. 또한 이 결과를 삼각형의 보간(interpolation)에서 뿐만 아니라, 적응분할(adaptive subdivision) 방법을 사용하는 래디오시티 모델(radiosity model)에서 자주 사용되는 일반 사각형에서의 효율적인 bilinear interpolation 기법을 제시한다.

Non-self-intersecting Multiresolution Deformable Model (자체교차방지 다해상도 변형 모델)

  • This paper proposes a non-self-intersecting multiresolution deformable model to extract and reconstruct three-dimensional boundaries of objects from volumetric data. Deformable models offer an attractive method for extracting and reconstructing the boundary surfaces. However, convensional deformable models have three limitations- sensitivity to model initialization, difficulties in dealing with severe object concavities, and model self-intersections. We address the initialization problem by multiresolution model representation, which progressively refines the deformable model based on multiresolution volumetric data in order to extract the boundaries of the objects in a coarse-to-fine fashion. The concavity problem is addressed by mesh size regularization, which matches its size to the unit voxel of the volumetric data. We solve the model self-intersection problem by including a non-self-intersecting force among the customary internal and external forces in the physics-based formulation. This paper presents results of applying our new deformable model to extracting a sphere surface with concavities from a computer-generated volume data and a brain cortical surface from a MR volume data.

An efficient acceleration algorithm of GPU ray tracing using CUDA (CUDA를 이용한 효과적인 GPU 광선추적 가속 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes an real time ray tracing system using optimized kd-tree traversal environment and ray/triangle intersection algorithm. The previous kd-tree traversal algorithms search for the upper nodes in a bottom-up manner. In a such way we need to revisit the already visited parent node or use redundant memory after failing to find the intersected primitives in the leaf node. Thus ray tracing for relatively complex scenes become more difficult. The new algorithm contains stacks implemented on GPU's local memory on CUDA framework, thus elegantly eliminate the problems of previous algorithms. After traversing the node we perform the latest CPU-based ray/triangle intersection algorithm 'Plucker coordinate test', which is further accelerated in massively parallel thanks to CUDA. Plucker test can drastically reduce the computational costs since it does not use barycentric coordinates but only simple test using the relations between a ray and the triangle edges. The entire system is consist of a single ray kernel simply and implemented without introduction of complicated synchronization or ray packets. Consequently our experiment shows the new algorithm can is roughly twice as faster as the previous.

  • STL which is used in Rapid Prototyping is composed of a lot of triangular facets. The number of triangles and the shapes of these triangles determine the quality of STL. Therefore, proper algorithm is necessary to enhance the quality of triangular patch. In this paper we used the Delaunay triangulation method to apply to following processes. 1) On processing for reducing sharp triangles which cause errors on intersection. 2) On processing for connecting two or more collinear edges. 3) On processing for deleting unnecessarily inserted points in coplanar polygon.

  • The LHCP circularly polarized antenna operating at the satellite broadcast receiving band is developed by employing the sequential-rotation technique in which each truncated-corner patch square element is arranged in the triangular lattice type. Antenna designed with sequentially rotated technique of triangular lattice type has the effect of improved axial-ratio bandwidth, cross-polarization etc., and the degradation of radiation pattern can be reduced significantly by minimizing the radiation loss of feeding line structure. Characteristics of antenna designed is satisfied with specifications of array antenna for DBS that is -27 dB of side lobe level and -20 dB of cross-polarized level at $\Phi$=45$^{\circ}$ plane.

울산의 신현층에서 산출된 이매패 Anadadra 화석의 형태와 내부 구조

  • 울산 퇴적 분지에 분포하는 신현층의 이암층 노두에서 이매패에 속하는 Anadara 를 비롯한 여러 종류의 연체동물 화석을 채집하였다. Anadara 화석은 해성 기원의 연체동물로 Vicarya japonica Yabe and Hatai와 함께 소위 Vicarya-Anadara 군집에 속한다. 이 군집은 우리나라의 제3기 생층서를 이해하는데 가장 중요한 정보를 제공한다. 여기에서는 Andara 화석의 형태적 특징과 내부 구조를 고찰하고, 현생종과 비교하였다. 신현층에서 산출된 Anadara 화석은 1속 2종으로 구성된다. 각의 형태적 특징은 각의 외형이 삼각형에 가깝고, 표면에 25~30개의 방사륵이 발달해 있으며 인대면은 삼각형 모형으로, 교치선은 직선이다. 각의 내부 구조를 박편상에서 관찰한 결과, 4개의 층으로 구성되어 있다. Anadara 화석과 현생종 Scapharca subcrenata 을 비교한 결과, 각의 외형은 조금 다르나 내부구조는 서로 거의 유사하다. A. (H.) kakehataensis의 내부 구조는 최외층, 외층, 광휘층, 내층으로 구성되어 있다. 외층은 교차판 구조(crossed- lamellar structure)로 되어 있다. 또한 성장선이 발달되어 있으며, 복연부에 불규칙한 균열이 부분적으로 나타난다. 이는 외부로 노출되어 건조되고 다시 물기를 머금은 상태가 반복되어 수축 팽창에 의한 것이라고 생각되며, 별개의 층은 아니다. 내층은 엽상구조(foliated structure)가 관찰된다. 외층과 내층 사이에 아라고나이트로 구성된 광휘층이 나타나며, 능주 구조(prismatic structure)를 보이는 얇은 층이다. 최외층이 나타난다. A. (H.) daitokudoensis의 내부 구조는 A. (H.) kakehataensis와 서로 거의 유사하고, 내층, 외층, 광휘층 및 최외층의 4개의 층으로 구성된다. 엽상 구조인 내층, 교차판 구조인 외층, 능주 구조인 광휘층 및 최외층은 유기질층으로 되어있다.

  • 본 논문은 3D 프린팅 출력 성공률을 높이기 위해 GPU를 이용한 대용량 3D 메쉬 모델에 대한 병렬 자체충돌 검사 방법을 제안한다. 강인하고 견고한 자체 충돌 검사를 위해 분리축 검사, 삼각형-삼각형 교차 검사, 메쉬 연결성 검사, 대용량 메쉬를 위한 분할 처리 기법의 절차를 제안한다. 이러한 자체 충돌 검사를 빠르게 수행하기 위하여 GPU 기반 병렬처리 구현 방법을 제시한다.

Effect of the STereoLithography File Structure on the Ear Shell Production for Hearing Aids According to DICOM Images (DICOM 영상에 의한 STL 파일 구조가 보청기 이어 쉘 제작에 미치는 영향)

  • A technique for producing the ear shell for a hearing aid using DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) image and a 3D printing was studied. It is a new application method, and is an application technique that can improve the safety and infection of hearing aid users and can reduce the production time and process stages. In this study, the effects on the shape surface were examined before and after the printing of the ear shell using a 3D printer based on the values obtained from the raw data of the DICOM images at the volumes of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 2.0 mm, respectively. Before the printing, relative relationship was compared with respect to the STL (STereoLithography) file structure; and after the printing, the intervals of the layered structure of the ear shell shape surface were compared by magnifying them using a microscope. For the STL file structure, the numbers of triangular vertices, more than five intersecting points, and maximum intersecting points were large in the order of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 2.0 mm, respectively; and the triangular structure was densely distributed in the order of the bending, angle, and crest regions depending on the sinuosity of the external auditory meatus shape. As for the ear shell shape surface examined by the digital microscope, the interval of the layered structure was thick in the order of 2.0 mm, 1.0 mm, and 0.5 mm. For the STL surface structure mentioned above, the intersecting STL triangular structure was denser as the sinuosity of the 3D ear shell shape became more irregular and the volume of the raw data decreased.
