Landscape Characteristics of Youngnam-Lu through the Analysis of Poetry (시문분석을 통한 영남루의 경관 특징에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the landscape characteristics of Youngnam-Lu by performing text analysis of related Korean poems over 600 years. A total of 354 poems were quantitatively analyzed for keywords and terms in particular categories such as nature. As a subsidiary analysis, topographic map was examined using CAD along with analysis of antique maps. Of the 354 poems reviewed, keywords frequently used are: 'Scenic sites'- 56 times, 'Long river' (長江) and 'Long stretched forest'(長林) - 39 times each, 'Superb scenery'- 31 times, 'Large field scenery'- 19 times, and 'Thousand-layered mountain view' - 14 times. In total, these keywords occurred 159 times in 44.9 % of these poems.1) The words used frequently in these poems, especially for those fall under category of nature, can be scored into different subcategories such as natural phenomena and geographical features. Occurrences of terms in each subcategory were main criteria for the analysis and the following is a list of subcategories with frequency in descending order: Natural phenomena (44%), geographical features (33%), plants (14%), and animals (9%). Among natural phenomena, phenomena related to sky were most frequent, 41 times, which might be due to superb sky view from Youngnam-Lu. Also geographical features of Youngnam-Lu were reflected in these poems, and the most prominent features were 'flow of the river' and 'Sand island' located in the Milyang River. These poems contained fairly large number of terms related to musical instruments (8%) which suggest that Young-Nam-Lu as a place where various musical instruments performances were held.

Optimization of PRISM parameters using the SCEM-UA algorithm for gridded daily time series precipitation (시계열 강수량 공간화를 위한 SCEM-UA 기반의 PRISM 매개변수 최적화)

  • Long-term high-resolution hydro-meteorological data has been recognized as an essential element in establishing the water resources plan. The increasing demand for spatial precipitation in various areas such as climate, hydrology, geography, ecology, and environment is apparent. However, potential limitations of the existing area-weighted and numerical interpolation methods for interpolating precipitation in high altitude areas remains less explored. The proposed PRISM (Precipitation-Elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model) model can produce gridded precipitation that can adequately consider topographic characteristics (e.g., slope and altitude), which are not substantially included in the existing interpolation techniques. In this study, the PRISM model was optimized with SCEM-UA (Shuffled Complex Evolution Metropolis-University of Arizona) to produce daily gridded precipitation. As a result, the minimum impact radius was calculated 9.10 km and the maximum 34.99 km. The altitude of coastal weighted was 681.03 m, the minimum and maximum distances from coastal were 9.85 km and 38.05 km. The distance weighting factor was calculated to be about 0.87, confirming that the PRISM result was very sensitive to distance. The results showed that the proposed PRISM model could reproduce the observed statistical properties reasonably well.

  • 농업 비점오염원으로부터의 수질 보전이나 수자원 관리는 유역단위로 하는 것이 세계적 추세이며, 지형이 복잡한 우리나라에서는 더욱 효율적일 수 있다. 유역은 물이나 기타 물질들이 모여 강이나 더 큰 수계로 흘러드는 지표수의 범위라 표현할 수 있으며 그 범위를 정함에 따라 매우 중요한 의미를 지니게 된다. 특히, 강우에 따른 수자원의 유입과 유출이 토양을 통해 발생함에도 불구하고 기존의 유역단위 구분이 토양의 특성을 전혀 반영하지 못하고 있는 우리의 현실은 효율적 관리를 위한 유역단위 구분의 큰 단점으로 작용해왔다. 따라서, 농업적 관리뿐만 아니라 수질관리 및 수자원 관리를 위해서도 유역단위 특히, 소유역을 토양특성이 포괄하는 체계적 단위로 분류할 필요성이 있다. 토양학에서는 동일한 모재에서 유래된 일련의 토양이 미세지형에 따라 연속적으로 분포된 것을 Soil Catena(토양연접군)라고 한다. 이 토양연접군을 위주로 토양을 분류하게 되면 수문이나 기상현상 등의 주요 매질인 토양을 그룹화할 수 있는 가능성을 얻게 되고 이런 그룹화는 유역을 수계 위주의 유역군이 아닌 동일특성이나 유사특성을 나타낼 수 있는 유역군으로 분류가 가능하도록 유도할 것이므로, 이런 분류는 토양을 포함하는 다양한 수문모형의 적용성을 확대해 합리적 수자원 관리에 도움이 될 것이며 수자원 환경에 영향을 미치는 오염물질 관리에 대한 유역단위 보편성을 확보하고 농업에서의 최적관리를 가능하게 할 것이다. 우리나라 유역 세분화는 토양조사가 되어 있는 지역에만 한정해 분류에 이용했다. 대유역은 15개로 구분하였으며(그림 1), 중유역은 117개 소유역은 1,108개를 분석에 사용했다. 유역의 만곡도(하천의 실제길이 하천의 직선장) 산림의 비율(표준유역내 임지토양의 면적 / 소유역의 면적), 평탄지의 비율(표준유역내 평탄지의 비율 / 소유역의 면적), 다른 소유역으로부터의 유입이 있는지의 여부 등을 기본자료로 하였다. 이렇게 구분된 소유역은 유형적으로 보면 유사한 지형 및 토양특성에 따라 그룹화하였다. 유역내 평탄지가 유역면적의 25% 이상을 차지하는 지역을 평야지로 구분하며, 유역내 평탄지가 25% 미만이고 경사지가 45% 이상인 중간지, 유역내 평탄지가 25% 미만이고, 경사지가 45% 미만인 곳을 산간지로 구분하였다. 경사지는 산악지와 구릉지를 제외하여 모든 소유역을 모암 유래토양특성에 따라 16유형, 농업지대에 따라 3개의 유형으로 나눌 수 있으며 총 개의 유형으로 분류하였다. 이런 분류의 토대위에 향후 필요분야마다 구분이 가능한 기후특성을 포함시킨다면 최종적으로는 모든 것이 해설될 수 있는 유역군으로 만들 수 있을 것이다. 즉, 토양특징, 농업특징, 기후특징에 비점오염가능성 등 토지이용상 문제점등을 포괄한다면 다양한 자연현상을 기술할 수 있는 효과적인 유역군이 될 것이다.

Investigation of Relationships between Soil Physico-chemical Properties and Topography in Jeonbuk Upland Fields (전북지역 밭 토양의 지형별 물리화학적 특성)

  • The properties of upland soils are much more dependent upon topography than those of paddy soils, and they give us very useful information to manage the upland fields. Therefore, we investigated the selected physical and chemical properties of upland soils at 84 and 150 topographic sampling sites, respectively. The topographic sites included 34.7% of local valley and fans, 18.7% of hilly and mountains, 20.0% of mountain foot slopes, 14.0% of alluvial plains, 8.0% of diluvium, and 4.6% of fluvio-marine deposits. Based on the investigation, soil textures in Jeonbuk upland fields were mostly sandy loam, sandy clay loam, clay loam, and clay soils, especially sandy clay loam soils were evenly distributed in all of the topographic sites. Soil slopes in the sites ranged from 0 to 15%, which showed an optimal condition for farm land. Soil bulk density and compaction values were from 1.19 to 1.24 g $cm^{-3}$ and from 12.1 to 13.9 mm, respectively. As comparing with the optimal conditions of soil chemical properties for upland soils proposed by National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology, Korea, 37%, 42.7%, 93.0% of the sites were within optimum levels with soil pH, content of soil organic matter, and electrical conductivity, respectively. However, 64.0%, 47.3%, 48.7%, and 42.7% of the upland soils contained excess levels of exchangeable K, Ca, and Mg, and available phosphorus, respectively. In addition, the contents of heavy metals, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn, in the Jeonbuk upland soils were much less than threshold levels.

Changes of Road Structures according to the Environmental Factors in Forest Road (임도의 환경요인에 따른 임도구조의 변화)

  • To provide the basic informations related to forest road construction of mountainous terrain, we analyzed changes of the road structure factors such as banking and cutting slope gradients, slope length, road width by the environmental factors such as locations, slope gradients, soil types, road position on physically stabilized forest roads constructed in Gangwon-do. All factors related to the road structures by locations were significant except for banking slope length. Road width, longitudinal gradients, banking and cutting slope length by slope gradients were not significantly different and banking slope gradients in the range less than $30^{\circ}$, from $30^{\circ}$ to $35^{\circ}$ and more than $40^{\circ}$ and cutting slope gradients were significantly different for all areas. Road width, longitudinal gradients, banking slope length by soil types were not significantly different and others were significantly different. All factors related to the road structures by road position were significant except for cutting slope gradients.

  • Recently mountain tourism has been promoted and introduction of railroads with utilizing mountain resources is being planned. With the government policies to increase the share of eco-friendly transportation on railroad, national double-tracking of single rail and improvement projects are on going. However, the eco-friendly railroad policy suggests the environmental impact assessment items only on air quality, water quality, geographical/geological features, fauna/flora, natural/environmental resources, noise/ vibration, and recreation/landscape. And for fauna/flora and natural/environmental resources, confirming the presence of environmental protection zone is enough to satisfy legal requirement. This study suggested to evaluate environmental/ecological values with quantitative data. Evaluation indices and evaluation items have been selected to provide the data. Each of the subject map and railroad network was overlapped. The study selected naturalness and diversity as major indicators and calculated weight values of the items under the indicators, which are to be usd for the selection of the sites for railway development. This assessment method could be applied to the environmentally friendly construction of railroads in the future.

Spatial Interpolation of Hourly Air Temperature over Sloping Surfaces Based on a Solar Irradiance Correction (일사 수광량 보정에 의한 산악지대 매시기온의 공간내삽)

  • Spatial interpolation has become a common procedure in converting temperature forecasts and observations at irregular points for use in regional scale ecosystem modeling and the model based decision support systems for resource management. Neglection of terrain effects in most spatial interpolations for short term temperatures may cause erroneous results in mountainous regions, where the observation network hardly covers full features of the complicated terrain. A spatial interpolation model for daytime hourly temperature was formulated based on error analysis of unsampled site with respect to the site topography. The model has a solar irradiance correction scheme in addition to the common backbone of the lapse rate - corrected inverse distance weighting. The solar irradiance scheme calculates the direct, diffuse and reflected components of shortwave radiation over any surfaces based on the sun-slope geometry and compares the sum with that over a reference surface. The deviation from the reference radiation is used to calculate the temperature correction term by an empirical conversion formula between the solar energy and the air temperature on any sloped surfaces at an hourly time scale, which can be prepared seasonally for each land cover type. When this model was applied to a 14 km by 22 km mountainous region at a 10 m horizontal resolution, the estimated hourly temperature surfaces showed a better agreement with the observed distribution than those by a conventional method.

  • Line-of-sight communications cannot easily support korean armed forces because of mountainous terrain. ADD(Agency for Defense Development) introduced ANASIS(Army Navy Air-force Satellite Information System) to meet the Korean warfighter's operational needs. Currently, army's military satcom terminal is designed for either fixed site or on-the-pause operation. The US army is under development of multi-band integrated on-the-move satellite terminals to let the army's communication capability to keep pace with globally deployable Joint Task Force for network-centric application. In this paper we analyzed X-band and Ka-band link and subsystem requirement. Our focus here is to describe key technical issues. Especially, On the basis of 3dB beam width of 0.9m antenna, Tracking accuracy and disturbances compensation signal processing on-the-move of Antenna Tracking system is analyzed. Also, protocol is analyzed that minimize blockage on the move due to an obstacle. when the received signal blocked, it stop to transmit burst signal and retransmit when blockage removed through received synchronization signal monitoring. Analyzed specification will be used to make prototype terminal to analyze risk for mass production

  • As many parts of Korea are mountainous, many tunnels have been constructed to be in step with rapid economic development since 1970's. However, the interest on maintenance of tunnels is far less than the awareness of need for tunnels. As the tunnel maintenance system is the responsive maintenance system which responds to the problems found during the inspection, it will be very difficult to respond to each problem with the limited budget and manpower of the government agencies when the number of aged tunnels rapidly increase in the future. As such, this study presents the need for the LCCA (Life Cycle Cost Analysis) based tunnel asset management system to transform the tunnel maintenance to a preventive management system in a strategic and long-term viewpoint and proposes the framework for development direction. It observed the asset management implementation cases of social infrastructure in other countries and analyzed the need for asset management technique to manage the tunnels in Korea. Moreover, it applied the LCCA model, which is the economic and engineering quantitative decision making technique, for tunnel asset management to present the concrete direction for development of an asset management model and designed the R&D framework to systemize it.

Comparison of Domestic and Foreign Design Guides of Rockfall Protection Barriers (낙석방지 울타리에 대한 국내.외 설계 지침 비교)

  • 전 국토의 65%가 산악지형으로 이루어져 있는 우리나라는 도로개설 및 산업기지 건설, 대규모 주택단지 개발 등으로 자연사면을 변형시키는 규모나 빈도가 증가하고 있고, 최근에는 기상이변에 의한 집중호우가 빈번히 발생하여 절토사면에서 낙석이 발생할 위험이 점점 높아지고 있는 실정이다. 낙석방지를 위한 대책공법으로는 낙석방지 망, 낙석방지 울타리 등이 있으며 이중에서 낙석방지 울타리는 국내의 국도 낙석방지 대책공법 중 70% 이상을 차지하고 있다. 그러나 국내 설계지침에는 낙석방지 울타리에 대한 다양한 성능등급과 성능평가를 위한 표준화된 시험방법이 제시되어 있지 않아 현장여건을 고려하여 적절한 낙석방지 울타리를 선정하고 낙석방지 울타리들의 성능을 비교검토하기에 어려움이 있다. 유럽의 경우 유럽연합 출범이후 낙석방지 시설에 대한 통합기준의 필요성이 대두되어 유럽 여러 나라의 성능평가 방법과 스위스의 설계지침을 고려하여 2008년에 유럽 통합 지침인 ETAG 27을 제정하였다. ETAG 27에는 낙석방지 울타리의 성능등급이 100kJ~4,500kJ이상 9등급으로 분류되어 있고 성능등급 별로 Service Energy Level과 Maximum Energy Level에 대하여 실물시험을 통한 성능평가 시험과 구성요소에 대한 검증시험을 수행하도록 되어있다. 실물시험은 낙석에너지의 산정과 낙석질량의 타격위치를 정확하게 결정할 수 있는 방법을 이용하여 수행토록 규정되어 있다. 미국의 경우에는 주별로 상이한 설계기준으로 인하여 발생하는 문제를 해소하기 위하여 2003년에 스위스의 설계지침을 준용하여 통합기준인 NCHRP Report 20-07을 결정하였다. NCHRP Report 20-07에는 낙석방지 울타리의 성능등급이 100kJ~5,000kJ까지 9등급으로 분류되어 있고 성능등급 별 낙석질량이 규정되어 있으며 등급별 낙석에너지의 50%와 100%에 대하여 실물시험을 통한 성능평가 시험을 수행하도록 되어 있다. 실물시험은 낙석에너지의 산정과 낙석질량의 타격위치를 정확하게 결정할 수 있는 방법을 이용하여 수행토록 규정되어 있다. 낙석방지 울타리에 대한 국내 설계지침과 유럽과 미국의 설계지침을 비교분석하고 국내에서 수행된 실물실험을 통한 성능평가 연구결과를 검토하였다. 또한 구성요소의 역학적 특성변화가 전체 시스템의 성능에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해서 국내 설계 지침에 제시된 낙석방지 울타리에 대하여 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용한 성능평가를 수행하였다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 국내 설계지침은 현장여건에 따라 적절한 낙석방지 울타리를 선정할 수 있도록 다양한 성능등급을 규정하고, 낙석방지 울타리의 성능을 합리적으로 비교검토 할 수 있게 하는 표준화 성능평가 시험방법과 평가기준을 정립하며, 구성요소의 품질에 대한 신뢰성을 확인하는 구성요소의 검증시험을 포함하는 방향으로 개선될 필요가 있는 것으로 조사되었다.
