In order to develop the weir with high reaeration efficiency, the reaeration experiments at linear weir, ogee spillway type weir, and labyrinth weirs were conducted and the results were compared. The effect of roughened crest was also analyzed. It was found from the experiments that the oxygen transfer efficiency at the ogee spillway type weir was the lowest and that at the linear weir was second lowest among the weirs used in the experiments. It was also revealed that the reaeration efficiencies of the labyrinth weirs increase as the included angles become smaller. The roughened crest which causes the disintegration of overflow was found to increase the reaeration efficiency significantly. On the basis of the results of the experiments, the pilot construction of the labyrinth welt with included angle of 30 degree was made. The labyrinth weir was made up by assembling the frame and then filling the ripraps into the frame. The ripraps were exposed at the crest to split the overflow. The average value of oxygen transfer efficiency observed at the pilot weir was 0.18. It is expected that the results from the experimental study and the field data of the pilot weir would serve for the improvement of water quality by the weirs with high reaeration efficiency.
In order to achieve high-level expression of interferon-${\alpha}1$ (IFN-${\alpha}1$) during fed-batch fermentation of recombinant E. coli, effects of oxygen supply and induction temperature on the expression of recombinant proteins were evaluated. Supplementation of oxygen and its transfer into cells is one of the most important parameters involved in the design and operation of mixing-sparging equipment for bioreactors. Generally, higher oxygen supply stimulates cell growth of aerobic microorganism and consequently the amount of products is increased. In this study, the optimum aeration strategy for the higher production of IFN-${\alpha}1$ during fed-batch fermentation of recombinant E. coli was surveyed. The growth of the cells was also monitored with four different concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO; limiting, 20%, 35%, 50%) conditions. The DO was controlled by varying aeration rates of air and pure oxygen. Oxygen uptake rate (OUR) and specific oxygen uptake rate (SOUR) were evaluated and compared for the enhanced growth and induction of the cells and IFN-${\alpha}1$, respectively. We confirmed that increased DO by additional oxygen supply, up to 35%, can improve the production of IFN-${\alpha}1$ during the fermentation.

The major objective of this study is to develop an effective method to estimate ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ in an aeration basin at a conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant. A series of unsteady state batch tests were simultaneously performed with clean water and mixed liquor in two batch reactors under identical operational conditions. Oxygen uptake rates (OURs) of the mixed liquor were measured during the tests. The results show that the OURs due to synthesis respiration and endogenous respiration were averaged about $17.96 mg/(l{\cdot}hr)$ and about $12.29mg/(l{\cdot}hr)$, respectively. The corresponding ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ were ranged between 0.65 to 0.95, and between 0.88 to 0.93, respectively. Based on the overall experimental results, the proposed experimental test method and the proposed method for determination of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ are found to be relatively simple and easy to use in evaluating the characteristics of aeration systems.
Transdermal drug delivery offers an alternative method to the conventional oral and injection delivery method. Its advantages include its ability to deliver drugs directly into systemic circulation. However, there have been restrictions in its application to deliver drugs because of the skin's barrier function. In this study, we try to combine a Sonophoresis and oxygen Pressure method in order to increase the Permeability of the skin. we used water as the compound and by utilizing the skin impedance method. we measured the hydration Permeability of skin Ultrasound was applied using a sonicator(Solcare-U1000. Solco, Korea) operating at a frequency of 1MHz. oxygen Pressure was applied using a compressor(Oxyjet-Pointer, Nora Bode. Germany) operating at a pressure of 2Bar/cm2. Experiment was performed in vivo for 42 People. We divided the subjects into four smaller groups. A different transdermal drug delivery method was applied for each group on the back of their hand. We measured the skin impedance variations on the hand. during a 20-minute time Period. The control group did not show any significant increase or variation of skin impedance to water. In comparison to the control group(Passive diffusion) the hydration Permeability of the ultrasound group and the oxygen Pressure group was approximately 25 and 30 times higher consecutively. Futhermore, the hydration permeability of the combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure group was about 70-fold higher in comparison to the control group(passive diffusion) . The results reveal that a combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure will significantly enhance transdermal water transport compared when only one of them is used.
This study was conducted to elucidate mixing characteristics of the media to dertermine hydraulic model parameters of the three phase fluidized bed for the water quality management of aquaculture. The volume and H/D ratio of the reactor were 1.76 Liter and 10.9, respectively. The experimental results showed that variance $(\sigma^2)$ and dispersion number $(D/{\mu}L)$ were above 0.47 and $0.35\~\infty$, respectively. Therefore, the condition of the reactor was almost ideal complete mixing. The dependence of the overall oxygen-transfer coefficient $(K_{La})$ on each experimental variables through a multple linear regression was given by the following equation ; $$K_{La}\;=\;44.9(D_i/D_c)^{-0.4611}\;A_f^{0.8622}\;C_m^{-0.0746}\;d_p^{-0.4302}$$

Oxygen transfer rate generally determines the performance of an aerobic wastewater treatment process that treats high strength wastewater such as food wastewater, animal wastewater and landfill leachate. In this paper, OUR and $K_L{\cdot}a$ were evaluated by using Jet Loop Reactor (JLR) according to the concentration of a mixed liquor volatile suspended solid (MLVSS), oxygen (air) flow rate and energy input as the variable of the operating conditions. Also, a nonlinear regression model was proposed by the statistical methods with the calculated $K_L{\cdot}a$. As a results, in case of applying the high strength wastewater which has to maintain high MLVSS, the energy input and the air flow rate are major parameters oxygen transfer rate in JLR. Finally, the final nonlinear regression model had been developed as a function of E/V, $Q_g$, and ${\mu}_c$.
In fermentations with a 4-liter stirred tank bioreactor, a better than two-fold enhancement of the gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient$(k_La)$ in the celite-immobilized fungal cultures of Tolypocladium in flatum over the parallel conventional free-cell was observed at identical biomass concentrations, despite the higher specific oxygen uptake rate of the immobilized fungi during exponential growth. As a result oxygen sufficient conditions, i. e., dissolve oxygen(D.O.) concentrations exceeding 75% air saturation, could be maintained throughout exponential growth period of the immobilized culture, in contrast to the suspended fungal culture, whose D.O. levels fell below 50% air saturation. A linear monotonic dependence of $k_La$ upon impeller agitaion rate was found for both immobilized and conventional cultivation modes over a range of 250 to 550rpm, the slope being a function of biomass concentration for the free but not for the immobilized cell system In contrasts oxygen transfer rate was a much weaker function of aeration rate up to about 2.5 vvm for both culture configurations. Above this level, aeration rate had no further effect on the mass transfer. In addition, the immobilized cultures sustained good morphological and physiological states, leading to almost two times higher cyclosporln A (CyA) productivity overt the parallel free cell system. These experiments suggest that the celite-immobilized fungal system in a stirred tank reactor has considerable promise for scaling up cyclosporin A production in terms of high-density cultivation.

Nebramycin is a complex of aminocyclitol compounds that is produced by aerobic culture in fermentation process. The major antibiotic factors produced by Streptoalloteichus hindustanus are nebramycin factor 2, 4, 5'and kanamycin A. A mutant was selected, producing nebramycin factor 5' activity 16.4 times higher than parent strain by microbiological assay using Pseudomonas aeruginosa CH-U34AF. The component ratio of nebramycin factor 5' was dramatically increased from 34% to 70% by the optimization of fermentation condition. It was found that the component ratio of nebramycin factor 5' in fermentation was especially affected by the oxygen transfer rate. Optimum oxygen transfer rate for maximal nebramycin factor 5' productivity and ratio during S. hindustanus fermentation was elucidated to $0.50 mMO_2$/min.
