Design and Analysis of Shell Runners to Improve Cooling Efficiency in Injection Molding of Subminiature Lens (초소형 렌즈 사출성형시 냉각효율 향상을 위한 박판형 러너의 설계 및 해석)

  • Subminiature lenses are currently widely used in mobile phone cameras and are usually produced by injection molding. The lens molding process has the unique feature of a runner volume that is much larger than the part volume, and this feature should be considered when determining the mold design and molding conditions. In this study, a shell-type runner was proposed as an alternative to the conventional cylindrical runner used for lens molding. An injection molding simulation was performed by applying the proposed shell runner, and the simulation results were compared with those from the cylindrical runner case. It was found that the shell runner could considerably reduce the runner cooling time with only a slight increase in the injection pressure. The effect of the runner thickness was then investigated numerically in terms of the mold filling and cooling characteristics, from which an optimal runner thickness could be determined.

  • The purpose of this research is to enhance the luminance of the LED and to improve the implementation of color by mounting an array lens on the LED without special technology in process. The workmanship of key components considering the economical efficiency and the injection molding technology for high quality of the product are essential to achieve it. In this paper, the mold was computer-aided was designed and manufactured by CAM software (NX4) and high speed machining center. the applied final machining conditions were 3,000-5,000mm/min feed speed, 15,000-25,000rpm and ${\Phi}0.3mm$ ball end-mill. And the Flow analysis was performed using the mold flow software(MPI) in order to get uniformity of resin. Injection conditions acquired by the flow analysis and the injection experiment are as follows. The cylinder temperature is $220-260^{\circ}C$, the mold temperature is $70-80^{\circ}C$, the injection time is about 1.2sec, the injection pressure and velocity is each 7.8-14.7Mpa, and the injection velocity is 0.8-1.2m/sec.

Study on flow behavior of polymer solutions in microchannels (미세구조 내에서의 사출성형 흐름에 관한 연구)

  • Filling the microchannels is very important in designing micro-injection molding, microdevices, etc. In this paper, flow dynamics was studied in injection molding with microchannels. A transparent PMMA mold was designed and the flow dynamics was observed. The experiment was performed using poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) and polyacrylamide (PA) aqueous solutions. The transignt dynamic flow and flow competition between the base plate and the microchannels were observed. The flow observation was used to explain previous filling length results in microchannels during micro-injection molding.

다발 원통 튜브형 그레인의 연소 불안정 억제를 위한 실험적 연구

  • 연소실의 세장비(aspect ratio)가 작으면서 추진제의 고 충전을 이용한 단시간 연소 모타는 유도탄의 사출 모타 용으로 사용될 수 있다. 사출 모타는 일반적으로 모타 무게에 대한 제약 조건이 까다롭지 않기 때문에 무게 경량화에 대한 부담은 줄어들지만, 모타의 부피가 커지면 유도탄 발사 장치의 부피가 커지기 때문에 공간적인 측면에서 가능한 작게 하는 것이 시스템 전체의 효율을 증대시킬 수 있다. 또한 사출 모타의 연소 시간이 짧기 때문에(1초 이내) 추진제의 웹 두께가 작으므로 연소실의 주어진 공간에서 추진제를 많이 채우기 위한 방법으로 원통 튜브형 그레인을 여러 개의 다발로 사용하는 방법이 효과적이다. 이러한 관점에서 사출 모타용으로 다발 원통 튜브형 그레인을 설계/제작/연소시험을 하였더니 작은 저주파(약 10Hz)의 연소 불안정 현상이 발생하였다. (그림1). 이러한 주파수 대역은 일반적으로 잘 알려진 연소 불안정 모드 (longitudinal, tangential, and radial mode)와는 다른 아주 특이한 현상이다. 이러한 현상의 주 원인은 연소실 내 압력의 비평형에 의한 현상이라 판단되어 다음과 같은 연구를 수행하였다. 1) 그레인 튜브간의 압력 평형을 원활하게 하기 위하여 그레인에 구멍(홀)을 뚫어서 연소 안정화에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구(그림2), 2) 그레인에 홀을 뚫지 않고 격자와 격자간의 공간을 이용하여 그레인 간에 발생된 저주파의 압력 진동을 산란/소멸 시키는 연소 안정화 연구(그림3).

  • In this paper the approach of neural network was proposed which detects a variety of defects in the molded parts. In an attempt to improve the response of the system, It is designed to minimize the use of memory via LookUp table in software. The goal of these methods was to extract the features of samples in learning of neural networks, overcoming the algorithms of defects detection and classification. Through the learning of 500 sample patterns of molded parts, defects of 3% molded parts was detected and classified as the incorrect diameter parts. We expect that proposed approach is an effective alternative to save test time and cost for defect detection of a fine pattern within the molded parts.

  • We studied on the injection molding conditions of defect-free PMMA lens for surgical light. When the heat temperature of mold is low, more imperfect molding or weldlines and flow marks have showed. A defective lens depends on low fluidity of the PMMA resin and its temperature is high, a flexural strain has occurred. The longer cooling time of specimens, the more cracks have occurred due to resin crystallization. In this study, optimal molding conditions for defect-free PMMA lens is as follows. The heat temperature of core mold was 110 [$^{\circ}C$] and also the cooling time was 25 [sec]. PMMA materials can realized low expense to produce plastic optical lens and applications.

Optimization of an Injection Molding Process for Polycarbonate Car Switch Buttons Using the Taguchi Method (실험계획법에 의한 폴리카보네이트 차량 스위치 버튼의 사출성형공정 최적화)

  • The quality of polymeric automotive parts depends highly on an injection molding process, which causes various defects, such as warpage, sink marks, weld lines, shrinkage, residual stress, etc. This study is to determine the optimum processing parameters, such as packing pressure, mold temperature, melting temperature, and packing time for the manufacture of polycarbonate buttons in cars on the basis of FEM, the Taguchi method, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). As a result, the optimum processing parameters of buttons made of polycarbonate material were obtained as follows: 140 MPa of packing pressure, $105^{\circ}C$ of mold temperature, $292.5^{\circ}C$ of melting temperature and 1 second of packing time. A gain of S/N (signal to noise) ratio, 10.2, was obtained with the optimum values. Moreover, the melting temperature was found to be the most significant factor followed by the mold temperature.

Development of simulation method for heating line optimization of E-Mold by using commercial CAE softwares (전산모사 프로그램을 이용한 E-MOLD의 Heating Line 배치의 최적화 설계에 관한 연구)

  • To produce plastic parts that have fine pattern through conventional injection molding, a lot of difficulties follow. Therefore, rapid heating and cooling methods are good candidates for manufacturing injection-molded parts with micro/nano patterns. In this study, we adopted the E-Mold patent technology. The mold for E-Mold technology has a separate heated core with micro heaters. It is very important to optimize the lay-out of the heaters in heated core because it influences both control and distribution of mold temperature. We developed a optimization method of heating line lay-out by using commercial softwares and compared the output with the experimental results. We used Pro-Engineer Wildfire 2.0 for the mold design, ICEMCFD for mesh generation, and FLUENT for heat transfer simulation. The simulation results showed the temperature profile from $60^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$ or $180^{\circ}C$ during heating and cooling process which were compared with the injection molding experiments. We concluded that the simulation could well explain the experimental results. It was shown that the E-Mold optimization design for heater lay-out could be available through the simulation.

Measurement of Residual Stress Using Photoelasticity and Computer Simulation of Optical Characteristics in a Transparent Injection Molded Article (광탄성을 이용한 투명한 사출성형품의 잔류응력측정 및 광학적 특성의 컴퓨터 모사)

  • Pressurized high temperature plastic resin flows into the cavity of mold and is solidified in injection molding process. Residual stress is being developed in injection molded part because of high temperature variations and high pressure. Developed residual stress relaxes as time goes. Consequently this makes part deformed and deteriorates quality of product. A measurement method of residual stress for injection molded transparent articles has been investigated using photoelasticity. Light, a composite of electromagnetic waves, is purified into a single wave by a polarized film. When this wave passes through the specimen, birefringence is developed according to the level of residual stress in the specimen and color fringed pattern appears after the second polarized film. Residual stress in the injection molded transparent flat a part has been measured quantitatively using the color fringed pattern. Optical characteristics have been a part also predicted by computer simulation and compared with experimental results.

Thermo-fluid Dynamic Analysis through a Numerical Simulation of Canister (수치 모사를 통한 사출관 내부의 열유동 해석)

  • A thermo-fluid dynamic analysis was performed through the numerical simulation of a missile canister. Calculation was made in a fixed analytical volume and fully evaporated water was used as a coolant. To analyze the interaction among the hot gas, coolant, and mixture flow, Realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence and VOF(Volume Of Fluid) model were chosen and parametric study was performed with the change of coolant flow rate. It could be found that the pressure on the canister top nonlinearly increased with the increase of coolant flow rate. Temperature and coolant distribution were closely related to the flow behavior in canister. Temperature on the canister bottom indicated a decrease being proportional to coolant flow rate in early times but after a specific time, the temperature increased with the tendency being reversed. In addition, the early part of temperature showed a fluctuating phenomenon because of the overall circulatory flow of mixture gas.
