Geographical Variation of Galactomannan Composition in the Seeds of Glycine soja (돌콩 종자 함유 Galactomannan 조성의 지리적 변이)

  • In order to investigate the geographical variation of Glycine soja distributed in southern area of Korean peninsula, 8 local populations(Sokcho, Wonju, Mt. Chiak, Cheongju, Andong, Taegu, Ulsan, Sacheon), which located from $34^{\circ}50'00"N$ to $38^{\circ}12'00"N$, were selected according to their latitudes and geographical distances. The seeds of these populations were collected and their contents of mannose and galactose were investigated, Mannose contents in the seeds were variable in the range between the highest 460.00 mg/g (Andong) and the lowest 55.23 mg/g(Sacheon). The contents of galactose were represented remarkable differences from 67.17 mg/g(Sacheon) to 387.50 mg/g(Ulsan) also. The local populations were classified into 3 types such as the middle southern inland type (Andong, Taegu), the middle northern type(Wonju, Mt. Chiak, Cheongju) and the coastal type(Sokcho, Ulsan, Sacheon) according to the ratio of mannose and galactose, which indicate the hardness of seeds in Leguminosae, ranged from 0.41 to 1.73. Particularly, those of middle southern inland populations represented the high values compared with those of other populations.

A Historical and Archaeological Study on Gabong Taesil of King Dangjong in Joseon (조선 단종의 가봉태실에 대한 문헌·고고학적 검토)

  • It is known that there are two Gabong taesil (shrine for King's umbilical cord) of King Danjong, the 6th king of Joseon, remaining today. One of them is Mt. Sogok in Sacheon-city, Gyeongsangnam-do and the other is Mt. Beomnim in Seongju-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The academic sector argued about this matter as there cannot be two Gabong taesil for one king. I once argued that Taesil on Mt. Beomnim in Seongju is King Danjong's Gabong taesil and Danjong taesil in Sacheon is the one for Prince Inseongdaegun, the eldest son of King Yejong. At that time, however, I had not examined the archaeological relics found in these places. In result of making an archaeological approach, I have come to the following conclusions :1. King Danjong had two Taesil : Agi taesil(shrine for baby's umbilical cord) and Gabong taesil. The first Agi taesil was created on Taebong of Mt. Seonseok in Seongju on November 26, 1441, but was moved to Mt. Beomnim in Seongju in 1451 to form the second Agi taesil. In 1458, King Sejo eliminated his Taesil. The stone structures of Gabong taesil still remains on Taebong of Mt. Beomnim, so it has been assumed that King Danjong established them during his reign (1452-1455). 2. Taesil in Sacheon has been known as King Danjong's Taesil because of King Danjong's reinstatement during the reign of King Sukjong. His Taesil was repaired with the reinstatement and King Sukjong was mistaken that Taesil in Sacheon was King Danjong's Taesil to fix it. The time of restoration has been assumed to be soon after the restoration of King Danjong's tomb (1699-1719). Taesil is missing the book of records and rails around the stone structure because the tombs of reinstated kings were restored without rails. 3. It is incorrect that Taesil in Sacheon was known as King Danjong's Taesil, It has been concluded that this Taesil was for Prince Inseongdaegun who was born in 1462. I focused on the fact that Prince Inseongdaegun's Taesil was in Seosamneung Taesil instead of King Danjong's Taesil. When Yiwangjik stored King Danjong's Taesil in Seoul in 1928 and moved it to Seosamneung in 1930, he found that the epitaph on the tombstone recorded that it was Prince Inseongdaegun, not King Danjong, and created Prince Inseongdaegun's Taesil in Seosamneung. I referred to "Taebong", which was created when Seosamneung Taesil was built during the Japanese imperial rule over Joseon, and the relics found in Taesil in Sacheon and Seosamneung.

Effect of Seeding Date on Growth Duration and Yield in Spring-seeded Barley (보리 춘파 재배시 파종기에 따른 생육단계별 소요일수와 적산온도 및 수량관련 특성변화)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effect of seeding date on the days and the accumulated temperatures to development stages, leaf emergence, and yield in spring-planted barley. Two barley varieties, Sacheon #6 in spring type (growth habit I) and Saechalssalbori in winter type (growth habit IV), were seeded on four seeding date, Feb. 23, March 4, March 13, and March 24. Growth periods to emergence, heading and maturity were shorten when seeding dates were delayed, except for the heading date of Saechalssalbori (winter type barley)at the later seeding date. The rate of leaf emergence was 0.1915 in a day, and was slightly high when seeding was delayed. The accumulated temperatures were 111-142$^{\circ}C$ for emergence, 683-756$^{\circ}C$ for heading, and 1274-1326$^{\circ}C$ for maturity. In general, the accumulated temperature to heading was higher in Saechalssalbori than in Sacheon #6 because the winter growth habit of Saechalssalbori was not removed perfectly, One-thousand grain weight and yield were reduced by delayed seeding. In order to reduce the yield when barley were planted in spying, it is desirable to select the spring type varieties, and to plant them as early as possible.

A Case Study on the Preservation Treatment of Ancient Documents -Focusing on the "Keumganggyung-samgahae" from the Four Devas of Borimsa, Buddhist Temple at Jangheung County- (고문헌의 보존처리에 관한 사례연구 -장흥 보림사 사천왕상에서 발견된 『금강경삼가해』를 중심으로 -)

  • This research studied the preservation treatment of the papered literature the national treasure 745-9 $\ulcorner$Keumganggyung-samgahae$\lrcorner$, discovered in 1995 from the Four Devas of Borimsa Buddhist Temple at Jangheung County, in the viewpoint of the bibliography. The overall features of the $\ulcorner$Keumganggyung-samgahae$\lrcorner$ were of 25.3cm width, 38.9cm height 1.5cm depth, 58 pages and of high-fine yellow-brown colored reef paper. The book was ruined physically in the shape and color. The covers of the book were deeply stained by the permeated rain and some internal pages were changing into brown color by corrosion. The treatment policies were; maintaining the status quo and capable repeated treatment. And the preservation treatment was done in the sequences of 1) 1st cleaning process, 2) repairing and correcting, 3) 2nd cleaning and preservation 4) cutting, binding the book and making the envelope and wood box. The post-preservation features of $\ulcorner$Keumganggyung-samgahae$\lrcorner$ were; total 64 pages and the size being 25.8 cm width 39.4cm of lenght, and 1.9cm of depth.

Changes in Microflora and Enzyme activities of Traditional Kochujang during Fermentation (재래식 고추장 숙성 중 미생물과 효소력의 변화)

  • Changes in microflora and enzyme activities of 3 kinds of traditional kochujang were investigated during 6 months of fermentation. Tested kochujang included Sunchang kochujang prepared with glutinous rice, Boeun kochujang prepared with barley and Sachun kochujang prepared with wheat. The pH in Sunchang and Sachun kochujang showed a slighlt decrese during fermentation. In contrast, pH of Boeun kochujang decreased rapidly up to 90 days of fermentation and then leveled off thereafter. The final pH values of Sunchang, Boeun and Sachun kochujang were 4.7, 4.0, and 4.6, respectively. The viable cell counts of aerobic bacteria in Sunchang and Sachun kochujang did not show remarkable changes during fermentation, however, those in Boeun kochujang showed a rapid increase up to 60 days of fermentation and stabilized. On the other hand, the viable cell counts of anaerobic bacteria decreased after 120 days of fermentation. Yeasts were found in different traditional kochujang at different time during the first 60 days of fermentation. It was found that ${\alpha}-$, ${\beta}-$, and glucoamylase activities of Sachun kochujang were higher than those of Sunchang and Boeun kochujang during fermentation. Acidic and neutral proteases showed the highest activity during $30{\sim}60\;days$ and $60{\sim}90\;days$ of fermentation, respectively. Sunchang kochujang showed the highest activity of acidic protease followed in decreasing order by Sachun and Boeun kochujang. On the other hand, Boeun kochujang showed the highest activity of acidic protease followed in decreasing order by Sachun and Sunchang kochujang.
