Metro stations are public places used by many people. If they use the station frequently, there is no struggling to find a way. But the first tourists or foreigners to visit are facing finding difficulties because of errors of the complicated sign and information. This study is the guidance of the metro station sign to provide effective information system and the research on the design improvement of metro station. In the first survey for this study I proceeded research about the concept of sign systems in metro station and literature search. In the second survey, I researched needs of the problems of the metro station users. In the third survey, I investigated Busan Metro Station's problems and design to improve the guide sign. In the survey results, users had a lot of difficulties in finding information because systematically increasing amount of information and guidance of the metro station. People can't find information because of sign indiscreet commercial advertising. Also they can get false information from sign without unity. To deal with these problems the metro station needs to improve design for a second-class citizen and refrain commercial advertising and design for information transfer capability.

This study has been prepared based on signboard arrangement works in order to foster Jeonju traditional Korean style house village as a main city of traditional culture. Overall composition has been suggested based on basic direction of signboard design in order to ensure design standardization method and utilization and right installation of various signboards. Enquete had been progressed by dividing into three areas including general characteristics of Korean style house village, acquisition of information and mobility and regulation/range of signboard with taking 600 number of persons from Jeonju citizens, outsiders and residents of Korean style house village as targets. Based on above result, design concept and detailed sign application method had been defined and pictogram and signboard installation method of Korean style house was suggested. As for the administrative procedure and regulations of signboard arrangement, cooperative method among Jeonju City, publicity company, deliberation committee and local residents and administrative project implementation method were suggested. Therefore, this study had summarized the project progress of signboard design for Jeonju traditional Korean style house village so that it may be utilized as a basic data for ensuring that this village would be developed as a region where tradition and history will be well conserved in the future through consultation with the relevant authorities.

This study investigated the current status of the design and direction of improvement of the sign system of urban railway stations in the Seoul metropolitan area to see how difficult it is for users to use. As a research method, first, a theoretical study on the literature of the urban railway sign system, second, a survey on the current status of the sign design of the Gimpo Goldline in the Seoul metropolitan area, and third, a survey on the actual use of the sign and problems was conducted. As a result of the current status survey, the location sign is in central alignment with the font of the guide sign, and the guidance sign is in front/back alignment according to the location of the entrance and exit. The background of the font is white and the text is dark black to make it look good to the user. On the other hand, guidance sign is written in white color and background color is gray color. Currently, the Gimpo Urban Railway Guidance Sign System is newly produced and installed, but there is a lack of user design and needs design maintenance that can clearly deliver information to users.

제17회 한국국제사인 디자인전(KOSIGN)2009가 지난 11월 12일부터 15일까지 서울 삼성동 코엑스 A,B홀에서 'All of Visual'을 주제로 열렸다. 올해 전시회에는 디지털프린팅 시스템, 미디어 및 잉크, 제작시스템, 후가공 및 장비, LED 모듈 및 조명, 디스플레이 등 다양한 제품들이 나와 IT기술 접목에 따른 디지털 사이니즈까지 사인산업의 변화와 미래를 한눈에 엿볼 수 있는 행사가 되었다. 올해 코사인전은 200개 사, 1000개 부스 규모로 열렸으며 국내외 바이어 및 일반 참관객이 2만여 명에 달했다. 특히 올해 전시회는 친환경 신기술 제품이 집중적으로 소개되었다.

Most of the sign systems involved in evacuation are not useful in seismic situations where people have to evacuate with their heads bowed, given that they are at the top of the wall. Based on the analysis and understanding of seismic evacuation situations, this study proposes a sign system as a measure for rapid seismic evacuation. First, understand the seismic situation based on the video analysis of the earthquake evacuation situation. Second, the need for a sign system to help secure evacuation in earthquake situations was derived. Third, the on-site survey examined the suitability of the Sine system installed in Korea as an escape facility for the earthquake evacuation situation. Based on the video analysis and on-site survey, it was concluded that the installation of escape guidance lamps alone could not induce rapid evacuation in the earthquake situation. In this study, a sign system is proposed to help the use of doors by installing a sign system near an emergency exit light.

This study aims at evaluating the characteristics and the preference on the sign design in the industrial heritages space. The research were performed by the process of literature review, case study, and survey of questionnaire. Seven industrial heritage space in Korea and China regenerated as art and cultural space after 2000 were selected and evaluated by 6 criteria including integrity, continuity, simplicity, aesthetics, legibility and historic aspects. The findings were the following. First, the six criteria factors were evaluated as the similar scores in the assessment of 7 sites without extremity. Simplicity was the highest score while historicality was the lowest one. It means that the characteristics of the sign systems of the heritage sites were focused on the simple, contemporary and effective design. Second, integrity, continuity, aesthetics, legibility were evaluated as the medium score in the sign design. While, in the evaluation on the aesthetics the score differences were comparatively high. Sanhai M50 which got the highest score showed the integrity of contrast using yellow and grey color with minimal design. However, Sanghai M50 got the lowest score in the historic aspects and was evaluated as the most favorite sign design in the preference. It means that the historic aspects have no direct relationship with the preference for the sign design. It shows that the effectiveness with integrity and the aesthetic aspects are considered more importantly than the application of the historic identity of the site in sign design.
