The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the aspect on the Leisure-Activity of Sasul-Sijo in Choson Dynasty. The Aspect on the Leisure-Activity of Sasul-Sijo can be divided into three type, Three type are the recreation. the health-care, and the self-discovery. The type of the recreation is reversed the Youth age-Leisure in the second chapter, the type of the health-care is reversed the Old age-Leisure in the third chapter, the type of the self-discovery is reversed the Youth age and Old age-Leisure in the fourth chapter. In order to study the Aspect on the Leisure-Activity of Sasul-Sijo which have succeeded up to present without interruption, it is to gather more materials, widen an appreciative eye our leisure-activity and deepen the till now study continuously.
'Haedonggayo(해동가요)' has 82 sijo poems written by Lee, Jeong bo, including his 20 saslsijo. In this paper, 3 saslsijo are analyzed. Their themes are 'performing a sexual act', 'sensual appetites', 'temptation'. Result from analyzing these 3 saslsijo was compared to other saslsijo. The purpose of this comparison is to comfirm the characteristics of his three works. Four consequences are obtained. First. materials of these three works are not just arranged in a row but set systemically. Second, designed meaning is showed concretely. Third, these three works have everything that is needed to represent designed meaning. Forth, designed maeaning has fixed form.
When we discuss the literature of traditional era in view of ecological mode, Saseol sijo and its common writers were not objects of interests because they were thought only as having the view of the world or nature the same as the noble class and their normal sijo writings had. Also the living things in Saseol sijo were not paid attention to. They were ignored and degraded because they were unfittable and unnatural poetic diction, or they were nonpoetic results of objects. Any critics could not recognize the breathing things as 'the living ones' or 'the subjective things' in the text. In Saseol sijo, the appearance of experienced, substantial and usual animals attract our interest, which is a clue to compare the noble class' sijo with having the ideal and imaginary living things. This study discussed the writer's view and recognition of 'the living things' in Saseol sijo. In this essay 'the living things' mean living and moving creatures. First 'the living things' in Saseol sijo were the creatures of daily life and experience. They were not ideal or dreamy creatures any longer to the writers of Saseol sijo. In Saseol sijo it's possible for creatures which ecological symbiosis cannot be made to appear together. On the contrary there are texts which had outstanding recognition of 'the living things' that were accustomed to the human life. The writers of Saseol sijo understood 'the living things' as creatures familiar to human beings. Their warm and affectionate eyes toward the creatures made 'the living things' the objects of identification and sympathy. There are some works which were complicated with love and hatred toward 'the living things'. In conclusion, the life of Saseol sijo writers were the same as the symbiosis with the living creatures.
The purpose of this study was to delve into the morphological types of Sijo in an effort to determine the morphological structure of Sasul-sijo, and it's also attempted to present standard about how to discriminate Pyong-si, Eos-sijo and Sasul-sijo from one another from a morphological standpoint. It's suggested that Si with tee Jangs, six verses and 12 stanzas or more, with three Jangs, seven verses and 14 stanzas or more, and with three Jangs, eight verses and 16 stanzas or more should respectively be called Pyong-sijo, Eos-sijo and Sasul-sijo. After what Sijo was and what's not were discussed, how to distinguish Eos-sijo from Sasul-sijo was described, and finally, the structure of Sasul-sijo was presented. As for Sijo and non-Sijo, the types of works that consisted of tee Jangs, like Sijo, yet didn't suit its framework and Yuljo and were written in Chinese characters were regarded as non-Sijo. Concerning discrimination between Eos-si and Sasul-sijo, the type of Sijo that included one more or higher number of verse(s) and two more or higher number of stanzas in one of three Jangs was defined as Eos-sijo, and the type of Sijo that involved two more or higher number of verses and four more or higher number of stanzas in one of three Jangs was called Sasul-sijo. In other words, Eos-sijo contained one more verse in one of tee Jangs, and Sasul-sijo included one more Jang in one tee Jangs. The sort of Sijo that contained one more Jang in one of three Jangs could be viewed as Sasul-sijo. Regarding the structure of Sasul-si, there should be three Jangs, eight verses and 16 stanzas in one piece of Sasul-sijo. Any type of Sijo that contained two more or higher number of verses and four more or higher number of stanzas could be called Sasul-sijo. Such an addition of verse and stanza could done in various ways. The examples were (1) adding stanzas the first Jang, 2) adding stanzas to the second Jang, (3) adding stanzas to the final Jang, (4) adding stanzas to both the first and Second Jangs, (5) adding stanzas to th the second and final Jangs, and (6) adding stanzas to all the first, second and third Jangs at the same time. Besides, there was an extremely broad gap between the numbers of verse and stanza in Sasul-sijo, which ranged from a low of eight stanzas to a high of 87 ones in one of three Jangs.
In early Josun(朝鮮) era, the scholars, genteels, and high officials in Josun dynasty paid attention to Sijo(時調) who hoped Josun society would share Confucian values. Sijo poems written by them are based upon Confucian ideology, giving an opportunity to its members to make sure their homogeneity and helping Josun dynasty sustain its regime. Gyongichega(景幾體歌) has, however, already failed to be an appropriate genre to do these functions. Nevertheless, in the late Josun dynasty when there were agitation in class hieracy, development of currency economics, maldistribution of wealth, and pursuit of enjoyment, obscene poems turned out. Consequently these songs contributed to encroaching and eventually destroying the Josun dynasty. The question that who are in charge of creating and enjoying Sasulsijo(辭說時調) cannot be answered by approaching it in the social class point of view. The range of the maker or the reader of Sasulsijo in the late Josun dynasty was much more extensive than that in the early times. Not only aristocracy or the middle society but even some of the lower class may have made and enjoyed those songs. In the meantime, it is singer-songwriters whom Park, Hyogwan blamed for their profiteering abuse of obscenity that is supposed to have been mainly reponsible for the creation of those songs. Siga is a double-edged art in its essence--the good and the bad. The lewd songs were, in the early Josun, strictly controlled but in the late Josun dynasty, were thriving due to social changes. In this context, songs based on Confucian ideology as well as the ones focused on sexual love became decayed along with the collapse of the Josun dynasty. Even though, in the light of the history of Siga, those two types of Siga are underestimated in its artistic value, they have very special social historical meaning in doing positive and negative functions for existence and destroy of the Josun dynasty.
In this paper, I reexamined the word 'Sijo-samjang(시조삼강)' and gave a new meaning of it. In addition, I proposed the new concept of 'Sijo-samjang' which meant the characteristic of a Pyon'ga(편가) in Sijo-chang(시조창). For a long time, 'Sijo-samjang' was regarded as a word which indicated the three sections of a Sijo. It was because of the fixed idea that a Sijo was always composed of a form separated by three parts. Unlike the fixed idea, I found the fact that 'Sijo-samjang' meant singing successively three different Sijos which adapted three different music by reexamining the actual uses of the word in the texts of the days. Thus, I could come to a conclusion that 'Sijo-samjang' was the word indicating a specific music system of a Sijo-chang(singing a Sijo) corresponding to a Pyon'ga of a Gagok(가곡). 'Sijo-samjang' seemed to be molded up while the music of Sijo-chang developed. Usually, a successive singing of the three different Sijos, such as Pyong-sijo(평시조), Chirum-sijo(지름시조), and Sasol-sijo(사설시조), was called 'Sijo-samjang'. However, some of the three could be omitted, and some of it could be substituted by a derived song. This kind of a usual and a derived form seemed to be settled as an important custom of singing a Silo after the 19 century. The main point of the development of music in Sijo-chang was having the characteristic of compilation which meant singing Pyong-sijo, Chirum-sijo, and Sasol-sijo successively. 'Sijo-samjang' was the concept which explained this kind of characteristic and was one of the key words to understand the development of Sijo-chang.
Shijo (Korean poetic form) is a representative literature genre of a short poem among the literary works of Korea in the late Chosen Dynasty. The format of Sijo is Normal-Shijo in the form of 3 verses, 6 sections and 12 sound, and the lyrics of one Normal-Shijo has within or without 45 words. But Saseol-sijo, a type of Sijo, there is a work that has more than 100 letters due to the number of lyrics were a lot increased. Among those Saseol-sijo there is a work with 'solemn and elegant feeling' borrowing some verses even from Chinese poem, using a lot of Chinese vocabulary, but there are a lot of works with 'salacious and explicit contents'. Literary work, Shijo, is used for lyrics of vocal music as Gagok (a genre of Korean vocal music for mixed female and male voices) and Sijochang, however, there are many cases that the same Sijo poem is used as lyrics of Gagok and Shijo. But those music that use Saseol-sijo as lyrics among Gagok, the vocal music, are mainly songs with 'solemn feeling' rather than 'salacious work'. This study looked into the reason why the Saseol-sijo with 'salacious and explicit contents' are hard to be used as lyrics in Gagok, confirming the fact that most music singing Saseol-sijo among Gagok that are being handed down till now use lyrics with 'solemn and elegant feeling'. The most important thing among those reasons seems to be irregularly increasing lyrics, and in accordance with accompaniment. Gagok accompanys a number of instruments the fixed melody recorded and delivered in score. So it's almost impossible to play unless it depends on the steadily made song melody and accompaniment melody according to the chosen lyrics in advanced. Also, appreciation of literary works is usually made privately through a private reading activity, but Gagok is conducted through public performance in an open space for many people. Especially, it would have been hard to sing a salacious and explicit song gathered together with men and women of different social status in social system and custom of the late of Chosen Dynasty. This study confirmed the fact that folksy and popular character that was praised for literary characteristic of Saseol-sijo can't be easily found from Saseol-sijo that was called Gagok.

Saseol-sijo, a form of sijo with longer verses, still affords pleasure to modern readers, even when it is read without the original performance context. In this study, I focused on Saseol-sijo that induces laughter through exaggeration and caricature while singing about eagerly waiting for a lover who has left. These texts describe concurrently the emotions that are contradictory to each other, such as nostalgia and laughter. In addition, this feature reflects human's inner emotions that are not unified but rather change dynamically. Craving creates a sense of nostalgia, and also produces a comical element in nostalgia, so that nostalgia and laughter can be co-exist without conflict. In this study, 'semiotic square' was applied as the framework for interpreting the Saseol-sijo, which demonstrates the coexistence of inconsistent meanings. As a result, a Saseol-sijo which sings about waiting for a lover can be interpreted through contraires such as prohibition and authorization, craving and concerns, exposure and concealment and concentration and dispersion. The nostalgic laughter in Saseol-sijo is generally based on the conflict between the craving self and the restrictive world. A character consumed by craving may seem ridiculous and pathetic in the view of others. However, people in general would find sympathetic humor and identify with characters who portray their weaknesses or repeat their mistakes. After all, this is the laughter of compassion and reflection which Saseol-sijo evoke.
This article reviewed ‘Gojangsijoseonju(고장시조선주)' which was written by Gojeong-ok(.고정옥), a scholar of Korean literature. and showed the features and importance in the history of Korean literature. Gojeong-ok was not properly studied in the history of Korean literature for the time being because he went to North Korea during the Korean war. Even for the researcher on Korean literature.' the literary works of Gojeong-ok were not introduced properly. However, the systematic studies on Gojeong-ok and his literary works should be done, and should be well appreciate his work in the history of the research for Korean literature by his achievements. This article considered his literary achievement through his book, 'Gojangsijoseonju'. 'Jangsijo(장시조), that was named by Gojeong-ok for 'Saseolsijo(사설시조), stood in highly important position to explain the history of literarature in late period of Chosun(조선) Dynasty. He tried the analysis on the fifty (50) selected 'Saseolsijo' and made commentaries on them in his book. And he suggested the original and creative theory on 'Saseolsijo' at the time of the book published. This article considered his understandings on the poems of classical literature, revealed in his literary works, and especially, the features on the theory for the 'Jangsijo'. Through this process, it could be clearly understand his views on literary works in itself. By considering the analysis of literature that was introduced with the commentaries, it could be seen the aspects of the specific analysis on each literature. Through these works, it could be looked forward to getting more detailed investigating clue on the view of Gojeong-ok for the poems of classical literature.

Features of housewives appeared in Poong-ryu-bang and Saseol Sijo which are succeeded as productions of merrymaking in Latter half period of Chosun dynasty, can spotlight because of its meanings. It told us not only housewives' roles are started to change but also vivid sexual discussions similar to nowadays things are begun in latter half Period of Chosun dynasty. Main subject pecuniary mediated sexual discussion of housewives appeared in Saseol Sijo teaches a lot of things to twenty first century's contemporary people experiencing collapsed family relationship, pariakapitalismus and wide spread sexual industries.
