This paper aims to examine the clinical implications of the treatment of 3 cases of atopic dermatitis with Molluscum Contagiosum, Verruca Vulgaris. Methods : 3 patients were treated by herbal medicine, herbal acupuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and external preparations. Photographs of lesions, VAS were used to evaluate the changes in symptoms. Results : Atopic dermatitis is accompanied by Molluscum Contagiosum or Verruca Vulgaris because the underlying cell layer is easily exposed to Molluscum Contagiosum and Human papilloma virus because of scatch by pruritus. And all three cases have been well recovered by korean medical treatment. Conclusions : This study shows that Korean medical treatment is effective to treat atopic dermatitis with Molluscum Contagiosum, Verruca Vulgaris.

  • An electron microscopical study on hemocytes of last instar larvae of Orthoptera (Acrida cinerea Thunberg, Paratenodera sinensis De Saussure, Atractomorpha lata Hotschulsk was performed to observe cell types, structures and their origins. Prohemocytes are the smallest round cells with large, nucleus, poorly developed cytoplasmic organelles and lower composition ratio, accouting for less than 1% of all cell types. Little remarked differences were revealed among different species. Plasmatocytes are relatively large cells with higher composition ratio, accounting for 5 to 20%. The majority of the plasmatocytes are oval forms with numerous external cytophismic projections., relatively well developed cytoplasmic organelles. Granular cells are characterized by various granules in cytoplasm. Some considerable remarked differences were revealed among different species. Furthermore the granules themselves differ in fine structures. Adipohemocytes were found only in Acrida cinerea Thunberg.

  • A study of the vascular hydrophyte communities was undertaken in the wetlands of Imjado, Shinangun, from March to November, 2006. As a result, the vegetation was divided into 15 communities. Among them, emergent hydrophytes consisted of 9 communities, including Phragmites communis community, Typha angustata community, Paspalum disticum var. indutum community, Sparganium erectum community, Oenanthe javanica community, Echinochloa crusgalli var. crusgalli community, Juncus effusus var. decipiens community, Aneilema keisak community and Persicaria thunbergii community, floating hydrophytes 1 community Trapa japonica community, free-floating hydrophytes 2 communities including Lemna paucicostata community and Spirodela polyrhiza community, and submergent hydrophyte 2 community, including Myriophyllum verticillatum community and Potamogeton distinctus community. These results were considered that the wetland of Imjado was characterized by the typical structure of aquatic plant ecosystem.

The most common warts were Verruca plana(48%), Verruca vulgaris(25%), Verruca vulgaris with Palmoplantar wart(14%), Verruca plana with Verruca vulgaris(9%). 4. The Verruca vulgaris was found mostly in the hand, whereas the Verruca plana was seen mostly in the face. 5. Laser therapy was the most common previous treatment, followed by cryotherapy, immunotherapy in order. 6. The distributions of duration of treatment showed highest in 1-4 weeks, followed by 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks in order. 7. After treatment, 43 cases(43%) showed complete clearance, and 29 cases(29%) showed partial clearnace. Conclusion : We analyzed the characteristics of patients with warts. Further studies would be needed to develop the better treatment on warts.

  • A new species, Euonymus baekdusanensis M. Kim (Celastraceae), has been named and described from Mt. Baekdu of the Korean peninsula. Euonymus baekdusanensis shares several characteristics (4-merous flowers, 4-angled capsule, warted branches and twigs, etc.) with its related species E. verrucosus Scopoli. It is, however, distinct from E. verrucosus which have small oblong leaves (6-7 cm), short petioles (1-2 mm), and small capsules (6-8 mm) by having large elliptical leaves (11-13 cm), long petioles (6-8 mm), and large capsules (12-15 mm).

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to know the efficacy of Korean medical treatment for recalcitrant hand and foot warts with an experience of cryotherapy. Methods : Twenty-two patients(male 12, female 10) with recalcitrant warts visited Amar Korean Medicine Clinic and were treated with herbal medicine, herbal acupuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and bloodletting for at least 3 months. After treatment, a clearance rate was divided into 4 scales such as; complete clearance / partial clearance-good / partial clearance-poor / no change. Results : Mean age of patients was 23.4 years and mean period of disease was 43.6 months. Mean duration of treatment was 3.0 months and mean dosage(貼) of herbal medicine was 89.1. Nineteen patients(86.4%) showed complete clearance, one(4.5%) partial clearance-good, and two(9.1%) partial clearance-poor. Conclusion : This data demonstrates that Korean medical treatment could be an effective treatment for recalcitrant warts.

Korean Medicine treatment included herbal treatment and herbal ointment. Results : A total of 326 patients were enrolled in this study: 62.7%(n=219) male, 32.8%(n=107) female. In the type of diagnosis, new diagnosis was 45.4%(n=148) and recurrent disease was 54.6%(n=178). Complete clearance was achieved 63.2%(n=206) and treatment period was 3.5 months(range:1-9). Partial clearance-good was 15%(n=49), partial clearance-poor was 4.9%(n=16), non response was 16.9%(n=55) and the average treatment period was 4.3 months(range:1-14). In complete clearance group, female and the prevalence of less than 1 year were statistically significant(p<0.05). There was no recurrence of genital warts after TKM treatment during follow-up period(4-13months).Conclusion : This study suggest that Korean Medicine may be an effective treatment for genital warts.
