Forecasting of Probability of Accident by Analizing the Traffic Accident Data : Main Intersections on Arterial Roads in Busan (교통사고 데이터분석을 통한 교통사고 위험도 산정 : 부산시 주간선도로 주요교차로를 대상으로)

  • The purpose of forecasting the traffic accident is to reduce the traffic accident. Therefore, the goal of this study is to provide severity of the accident by Forecasting of Probability of Accident. In Korea, accident data are distributed to the public via internet that includes numbers of accident and fatality as well. And crude level of accident severity in accordance with weather information for metropolitan city level are available by weekly. However, It can not reflect personal needs at specific origin of the travel for a certain traveller. This study aims to consider 68 major intersections with precipitation data, and eventually introduces link based accident severity. In estimating the accident severity both dynamic data such as drivers' characteristics, driving conditions and static data such as geometry of road, intersection characteristics are considered. Also, we identifies accident severity according to the accident type - 'vehicle to vehicle,' 'vehicle to person.' Finally, the outcomes of this study suggests taylor-made accident severity information for a specific traveller for a certain route.

  • In recent, technological advancement including a vehicle black box (VBB) has led to reducing such underreporting issues and errors of crash data. The objective of this study is to analyze the injury severity of cyclists on taxi-to-two wheeler crashes based on the accurate crash data collected from the VBB in taxi. This study defined the two wheelers as bicycle and motorcycle. To perform this study, we used the VBB data collected from taxis operating in Incheon, South Korea for a two-year period (2010-2011). An ordered probit model was applied to analyze the injury severity in crashes. As a result, new injury severity factors were found: increase of the crash speed of taxi, damage of crash-involved vehicles (i.e., taxi and/or two wheeler), not standing of cyclists after crash, and second or third impact of cyclists after first crash.

  • 현재 자동차 교통사고 발생원인 중 타이어의 불량으로 인한 교통사고는 매년 급증하고 있다. 자동차 타이어의 상태를 점검하여 미연에 사고를 예방하는 캠페인이 방송매체를 통해 진행되고 있으며 이와 관련된 행사도 실시하고 있다. 기존의 타이어 측정방법은 객관적이지 못하며 전문적인 기관에 의뢰해도 사정은 마찬가지다. 운전자에게 편리하며 객관적인 타이어 상태를 측정하려는 방법은 연구되지 않는다. 본 논문에서는 운전자에게 편리하며 객관적인 타이어 상태 정보를 제공하고, 계속적으로 누적된 타이어 상태 측정데이터를 분석하여 운전자에게 유용한 타이어 상태정보를 제공하는 시스템을 설계하기 위한 연구내용을 다룬다.

  • The researches on driver assistance systems that can prevent an accident have been actively performed due to social issues of traffic accidents with development of vehicle industry in recent. It is required for researchers to develope systems which assist driver's perception and judgment when considering that over 70% of traffic accidents occur by drivers' carelessness and 75% of the total accidents occur at the speed of less 29km per hour. In this paper, we implemented a front and rear vehicle monitoring system that monitors distance from a vehicle to obstacles in real-time at the low-speed or back-ward driving. The proposed system consists of ultrasonic sensors of high angle and wide angle of beam spread, ATmega128, and DSP processor.

  • 현재 도로 위 차량은 다양한 기능이 탑재되어 있고, 이는 운전자의 편의와 안전을 위해 발전해왔다. 하지만 음주운전과 안전운전 불이행에 의한 교통사고는 꾸준히 발생하고 있으며, 이 사고율은 단순히 제도적 규제와 운전자의 주의만으로는 감소시키기 어렵다고 판단된다. 본 논문은 제도적인 규범만이 아닌 기계적인 차원에서의 음주운전 사고 예방과 안전운전 불이행 사고의 방지를 하기 위해 '음주측정 시동 및 안전운전 보조시스템'을 제안한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하고자 알코올 측정 센서를 통해 시동을 걸기 전 음주측정을 해 음주운전의 가능성을 차단하고 초음파 센서를 이용하여 전, 후·측방 감지를 하고 주변의 장애물과 운전자의 부주의 시 즉각적인 피드백을 제공해 안전운전 불이행 사고를 방지할 수 있다.

  • 최근 Wellness 산업이 발전되면서 Wellness 분야의 다양한 서비스 형태에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 기존의 Wellness 서비스는 디바이스에 한정되어 서비스를 제공하기 때문에 제한적인 문제점이 있다. 보다 다양한 형태의 서비스를 제공하기 위해서 디바이스에 한정된 서비스를 자동차 환경에 적용하여 제공하는 자동차 Wellness에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 자동차 내의 Wellness 서비스는 운전자 건강관리, 사고예방과 같은 서비스와 질 높은 콘텐츠를 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 자동차 내의 운전자 건강상태 최적화를 위한 지능형 Wellness 서비스를 제안한다. 이 서비스를 통해 운전자의 건강상태를 최적화하여 사고 예방에 도움이 된다. 또한 지능형 Wellness 서비스 연구동향 및 다양한 형태의 Wellness 서비스의 향후 발전 방향에 대해 고찰한다.

Characteristics of Geometric Conditions Affecting Freeway Traffic Safety at Nighttime, Sunrise, and Sunset (야간 및 일출몰 시간대 교통안전에 영향을 미치는 고속도로 기하구조 특성분석)

  • Driver's capability of identifying the change in freeway alignments and environments is one of important factors associated with traffic safety on freeways. In particular, driver's visibility and recognition capability are highly dependent on the altitude of the sun by sunset, sunrise, and nighttime. The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of geometric conditions affecting crash occurrences at sunset, sunrise, and nighttime. Poisson and negative binomial regressions were adopted to predict freeway crash frequency in this study. Freeway crash data during 2007~2010 were used for developing the crash frequency models. A set of variables representing the characteristics of geometric conditions were identified as significant ones affecting crash occurrences. The results of this study would be useful in deriving effective countermeasures for preventing traffic crashes that mainly occur at sunset, sunrise, and nighttime on freeways.

A Study on the Analysis of Dangerous Driving Behavior and Traffic Accident Risk according to the Operation Characteristics of Commercial Freight Vehicles (사업용 화물자동차 운행특성에 따른 위험운전행동 및 교통사고 위험도 분석 연구)

  • This study analyzed the causal relationship among operating characteristics of commercial freight vehicles, dangerous driving behaviors, and traffic accident risk. The study applied the existing accident cause and prevention theory to arrive at this relationship. Data related to working characteristics of driver, driving experience, driving ability, driving psychology, vehicle characteristics (size), dangerous driving behavior, and traffic accidents were collected from 303 commercial freight vehicle drivers. Working characteristics and dangerous driving behavior data are based on the driver's digital driving record. The traffic accident data is based on the insurance accident data reflecting actual traffic accidents. First, a structural equation model was built and verified using the model fitness index. Then, the developed model was used to analyze the causal relationship between multiple independent and dependent variables simultaneously. Four dangerous driving behaviors (sudden deceleration, sudden acceleration, sudden passing, and sudden stop) were found to be highly related to traffic accidents. The results further indicate that it is necessary to establish a safety management policy and intensive management for small-sized freight vehicles, drivers with insufficient driving ability, and drivers with dangerous driving behaviors. Such policy and management are expected to reduce traffic accidents effectively.

  • This research wished to risk type and examine closely driver special quality and relation of traffic accidents by occurrence type of traffic accidents and traffic accidents seriousness examine closely relation with Severity. Fractionate traffic accidents type by eight, and driver's special quality for risk group's classification did to distinction of sex, vehicle type, age etc. analyzed relation with injury degree adding belt used putting on availability for security the objectivity with wave. Used log-Linear model and Logit model for analysis of category data. A head-on collision and overtaking accident, right-turn accident are high injury or death accident and possibility to associate in relation with accident type and seriousness degree. In risk group analysis The age less than 20 years in motor-cycle driver, taxi driver in 41 years to 50 years old are very dangerous. The woman also was construed to the more risk group than man from when related to car, mini-bus, goods vehicle etc. Therefore, traffic safety education and Enforcement for risk group that way that can reduce accident that produce to reduce a loss of lives at traffic accidents appearance a head-on collision and overtaking accidents, right-turn accidents should be studied and as traffic accidents weakness class may have to be solidified.

Development and Validation of Situation Awareness Tests for Commercial Drivers (사업용 운전자를 위한 상황인식 검사의 개발과 타당화)

  • This research aimed to investigate whether commercial drivers' situation awareness ability is related to their frequency and magnitude of caused accidents and penalty points. For the purpose of measuring drivers' situation perception and interpretation capacities, two tests named 'situation awareness test' and 'hazard perception test' were developed. The tests were based on the data from 299 commercial drivers (test drivers) using a driving simulator. The outcome of drivers' performance on situation awareness and hazard perception tests was designed to be categorized into 5 grades, classifying the best as grade 1 and the worst as grade 5. As the result, low grades on situation awareness test had positive relationship with accumulated penalty points, frequency of accidents and safety index. Grades on hazard perception test were also positively correlated with accident frequency and safety indices. This suggests situation awareness ability of commercial drivers is significantly related to traffic violations and accident causing tendencies.
