  • Recently, the developments in generating and amplifying ultrashort optical pulses $(ps=10^{-12}s or fs=10^{-15}s)$ have imposed on great advances in the time-resolved laser spectroscopy. Especially, the transient absorption spectroscopy has a wide application range and the main idea of this technique is pump & probe method. After the pump pulse makes the material an excited or a transient states, the probe pulse is sent through the material to measure the absorbance change due to the transient states. Here, if the absorbance change was measured by the time delay between pump & probe pulses, the dynamic information of the excited or the transient states (the transient abnsorption changes by time & wavelength) can be obtained. The Characteristics of Ductile Cast Iron Heat-treated by $CO_2$Laser (구상흑연주철의 $CO_2$레이저 표면경화 특성)

  • This study has been performed to predict beam absorption with analysis of temperature field by using a FEM in co /sab 2/ laser hardening and to invesrigate into some effects of power density and travel speed of laser beam on the microstructure and hardness of ductile cast iron treated by laser surface hardening technique. Optical micrograph has shown that large martensite and small amount of retained austenite appear in inside hardened zone. Hardness measurement has revealed that the range of maximum hardness value is Hv=415 .+-. 10. The power density increases and the travel speed decreases, the depth of hardened zone increases due to increase of input power density.

  • 최근 몇 년 동안 레이저는 품질과 신뢰성의 계속적인 향상으로 인하여 여러 산업 응용분야에서 폭넓게 사용되어 지고 있다. 재료가공에 있어서 레이저의 적용분야는 금속의 절단, 용접 및 드릴링, 세라믹의 스크라이빙, 플라스틱과 복합재료의 절단 및 여러 가지 재료의 마킹, 등을 포함한다. 이러한 가공 메카니즘은 레이저의 조사에 의하여 재료를 용융, 증발시키는 열적 메카니즘이다. 특히 요즘에는 자외선 영역의 조사와 높은 빔의 세기에 의해 다른 종류의 에너지 전달 메카니즘이 가능한 UV 영역의 엑사이머 레이저의 사용이 증가하고 있다.$^{(1)}$ 이러한 엑사이머 레이저가 기존의 다른 레이저에 비해서 갖는 이점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 모든 금속이 엑사이머 레이저에 대해서는 높은 흡수율을 가지므로 레이저 에너지가 가공 에너지로 효율적으로 변환되기 때문에 얇은 표면층에서 완전히 흡수하게 된다.   • Laser beam hardening of 12%-Cr steel has been evaluated by using a continuous wave 3kW co$_{2}$ laser with a hardening mirror set. Experiment was performed on the hardening condition with a laser power of 2.85kW and travel speed of 1.0 and 1.5m/min. Multi passes have been also tried to find the hardening characteristics of partly overlapped zone. The black paint to use at high temperature was adopted to increase the absorptivity of laser beam energy with the wavelength of 10.6.mu.m at the surface of base metal. The microstructure of the hardened layers was observed by using a light microscopy, SEM and TEM. A fine Lamellar martensite formed in the hardened zones exhibits very high Vickers microhardness of 600Hv, whereas the tempered martensite distributes in the base metal with Vickers microhardness of 240Hv.It has been found that laser hardening with multi passes showed no significant drop of the hardness between adjacent passes.
