A Study on Multi Beam Steering using Weight Error Compensation Algorithm and SVD in Wireless System (무선 시스템에서 가중치 오차 보정 알고리즘과 SVD를 이용한 다중 빔 조향에 대한 연구)

  • This paper study about multi-beam for ditection of arrival estimation in wireless system. estimate a direction of arrival of target in multi input-output array antennas system. Beam steering method are divided by beam steering method of elevation angle or beam forming method, stack beam steering, frequency steering, phase steering radar and digital beam forming radar. Proposed algorithm is combined SVD method and antenna weight error compensation method with phase and amplitude compensation to effectivity beam steering. Through simulation, we were analysis of performance that general algorithm and proposed target estimation algorithm in this paper. It was proved to improved proposal algorithm than general algorithm in target direction of arrival estimation.

Design and Implementation of Beam Steering System Based on Rotman lens and its Real-Time Display Device of Beam Receiving (로트만 렌즈를 이용한 빔 조향 시스템과 실시간 빔 수신표시 장치의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose the beam-steering system using Rotman lens antenna operating at 2.442GHz which is to replace an expensive phase shifter. The overall system consists of the transmission antennas, Rotman lens and switch box. Setting the initial design conditions, it was designed and fabricated satisfying the requirements. From the result tested in the anechoic chamber, it was found that the beam can be steered using Rotman lens in the anechoic chamber. We also visually checked the beam-steering by turning on the LED of the rectenna showing the real-time beam receiving.

Beam Steering Antenna Using a Dipole and a Loop (다이폴 루프 결합형 빔 조향 안테나)

  • In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable beam steering antenna using a dipole and a loop. The radiation patterns of the two antennas were cancelled or compensated, and head for the specific direction when a dipole and a loop antenna are combined at the reasonable ratio. The structure of the antenna is very simple and planar. By changing on/ off states of switches, the proposed antenna can steer the beam direction in the x-y plane. Simulation results confirmed the steering characteristic by using two imaginary switches. The proposed antenna can change the direction of the maximum gain in the x-y plane($0^{\circ}$, ${\pm}50^{\circ}$). The proposed antenna operates in 2.5~2.56 GHz(VSWR<2). It showed that peak gain of the antenna is 1.96~2.48 dBi and overall beam width of the reconfigurable antenna covers about $125^{\circ}$.

  • Reconfigurable beam steering using microstrippatch antenna with U-slot is proposed for wearable fabric applications. The proposed antenna is manufactured on a fabric substrate, and designed to steer the beam directions at the operation frequency of 6.0 GHz. The U-shaped slot and the indirect feeding-techniques are utilized in designing the proposed antenna. By the configuration of two artificial switches($S_0$, $S_1$, $S_2$) in between the indirect feed and the antenna patch, the antenna has three beam directions. The maximum beam directions are steerable in the yz-plane(${\theta}=0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $331^{\circ}$), and the overall HPBW is $115^{\circ}$. The measured peak gains are 6.11~6.69 dBi.

Development of Radar Beam Steering Measurement System and measurement Boresight Error (레이다 빔조향 특성 측정 장치 개발 및 보어 사이트 에러 측정)

  • In this study, a beam steering measurement system was developed to perform functions such as far-field beam steering and near-field beam focusing for TX/RX modes in the near file of the AESA radar. The beam steering measurement system consists of a spherical near-field scanner, an antenna positioner, a near-field controller, a network analyzer, a radar control system, a verification radar, a simulated radio, and an AESA radar. Using the developed system, the characteristics of TX/RX patterns before and after installation of radome to AESA radar were measured, and the beam pattern was analyzed through conversion to far field-after near-field measurement.The boresight error of the radar antenna device was measured, and it was confirmed that the main lobes were formed the same before and after the simulated radar dome was mounted.

Omnidirectionally Beam-Steerable Orthogonal Loop Resonator with Switch for Wireless Power Transfer (무선전력전송용 스위치가 장착된 직교루프 전방향 빔조향 공진기)

  • This paper presents an omnidirectionally beam-steerable orthogonal loop resonator for wireless power transfer. The resonator is composed of two orthogonal loops. These connections of two loops and the current direction on the loops are determined by the control of switch. The magnetic field direction is determined by the vector sum of each loop current. The beam is steerable to eight directions by four switch modes. Using the suitable switch mode, the simulation and measurement efficiencies in the whole azimuthal direction are 56.3~60.0 %(deviation 3.7 %) and 41.2~48.7 %(deviation 7.5 %), respectively. The results show a little variation of transmission efficiency in the azimuthal direction.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi target's elevation angle estimation method using multi beam forming technique. This method make a stacked beam to digital processing a received signal in array element. There can be desired receiving beam to application weight value at antenna element in beam forming. Currently, we are to make multi stacked beam using fast fourier transform in stead of phase shifter to be a computer performance much improvement. Also, we improve multi beam directivity using beam steering error correction technique in order to beam steering to desired direction in receiver. Through simulation, we show that the proposed elevation estimation method based on fast fourier transform and beam steering error correction technique, improves th performance of target estimation compared to previous method.

  • Feedback burden of a full-digital energy beamforming, which is known as the optimal precoding scheme for radio frequency (RF) energy transfer, is huge because it uses a vector quantization for a channel feedback. To reduce the feedback burden, we consider a beam steering based wireless energy transfer, which uses a scalar quantization. Researches related to the beam steering based wireless energy transfer have been studied in special channel model with an assumption of full channel state information at the transmitter. In this paper, we analyze the beam steering scheme compared with the full-digital energy beamforming for practical channel models with channel estimation errors. According to characteristics of the millimeter wave channel, the number of antennas of the base station and the user, the distance between them, and channel estimation errors, we simulate the performance of the beam steering scheme and analyze reasons why.

Design of L-Band Cylindrical Active Phase Array Antenna Using Bent Dipoles (접힌 다이폴 구조를 적용한 L-Band 원통형 능동 위상배열 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a cylindrical active phased array antenna of Beam Steering Characteristics in the horizontal plane(H-plane) and vertical plane(E-Plane) on the cylinder form array structure. We design the bent dipole antenna of the cylindrical array structure adapted excellent mutual-coupling characteristics, designed and manufactured the cylindrical array antennas and power combiner/divider unit for power dividing and combining on the antenna. The radiating elements array spacing of Cylindrical array antenna were determined to avoid grating lobes at half power beam steering. Beam steering of the antenna was implemented with 6-bit phase shifter in the transceiver and have been designed based on the characteristics the antenna beam steering at -24 degrees to 24 degrees horizontal, vertical 0 degrees to 36 degrees beam steering. A cylindrical active phased array antenna that produced for verification the performance of the antenna are measured radiation characteristics in accordance with beam steering at L-Band.

Radiator Design Method considering Wide-Angle Beam Steering Characteristics of AESA Radar (AESA 레이더 광각 빔조향 특성을 고려한 복사소자 설계 기법)

  • In this paper, a study was conducted on the design of an array element that can be applied to the AESA radar for seeker. An antenna for application to AESA radar should choose an optimal radiation element to be applied to an array antenna in order to secure electronical beam steering characteristics, and consider beam steering characteristics when designing. In particular, in order to satisfy the wide-angle beam steering characteristics, the wide-angle impedance matching technique should be used to minimize the scan blindness region that may occur during wide-angle steering. As such, securing the stability of system operation is becoming an important design consideration for AESA radar. In this paper, WAIM is applied to the end of the radiation element to improve the characteristics of the radiation element applied to the AESA radar antenna device, and the change in the performance of the active reflection coefficient, which is a stable operation index of the system, is reviewed. The final performance result verified the validity of the proposed method by mathematically synthesizing the simulation data.
