Effect of Estrogen on the Gestational Profiles in Gene Expression of Placental Lactogen I, II and Pit-i in the Rat Placenta (흰쥐 태반에서 Placental Lactogen I과 II 그리고 Pit-1의 유전자 발현에 미치는 에스트로겐의 영향)

  • To investigate gestational profiles in gene expression of placental lactogen I fpL4), PL-lI and Pit-1, RNA samples were extracted from the placentas of pregnant day 12 to 20 at 2 day intervals. Northern blots showed changes in gene expression of PL4, - 11 and Pit-i. Sizes of PL-l and -II mRNA were changed and amounts of PL-I, -H and Pit-1 mRNA increased during progress of gestation. To examine the effect of estrogen on the gene expression of PL-I, -Il and Pit-1, pregnant female rats were ovariectomized (OVX) and daily injected with estradiol (OVX + E). OVX markedly lowered the amount of PL4 and 41 mRNA, and shifted niRNA size from 1 kb to i 3 kb in PL-l mRNA and 0.6 kb to i kb in PL-ll mRNA, respectively. OVX had no effect on the mRNA size of Pit-1, but markedly attenuated Pit-1 mRNA level. Estrogen injection reversed the effect of OVX on the size-shift but not on the amount of PL4 and -Il mRNA. Replacement of E partially recovered OVX-induced inhibition of Pit-i mRNA level. Present results suggest that estrogen may play a pivotal role on the gene expression of PL-l and -Il such as alternative RNA splicing and/or polyadenylation, and Pit-1 may be involved in the gene expression of PL-l and 41 by estrogen.

Food Nutritional Composition in Dried Powder of Root of Acorus calamus L. ( I ) Pyoximate Compositions, Sugars, Free Sugers and Amino Acids (창포(Acorus calamus L.)뿌리 건조분말의 식품학적 성분 (I) 일반성분, 총당, 환원당, 유리당 및 아미노산)

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the food chemical composition in dried powder of main and lateral root of Acorus calamus L. Content of crude protein and crude fat in dried powder of main and lateral root were 12.76% and 9.84%, 7.43% and 3.42%, respectively. Total and reducing sugar of main and lateral root were 21.99% and 7.67%, 24.12% and 0.65%. Major free sugars of root were sucrose, stachyose, raffinose, glucose and fructose. Sucrose of main and latent not were found to be the most predominant free sugars, contained 10.85 % and 1257%. Content of total amino acid were 427 mg% of main mot and 470 mg% of lateral root. Major total amino acids of root were arginine, glutamic acid, major free amino acids of main and lateral root were detected asparagine, arginine, glutamic acid and phenylalanine, respectively. Among the essential amino acids, the content of threonine was the highest (15.62 mg%) in main root and phenylalanine was the highest (12.67 mg%) in lateral root.

Changes of Bioactive Compounds and Antioxidant Activities in Korean Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) with Different Harvesting Periods (국산 녹차의 채취시기별 활성물질 및 항산화능 변화)

  • Korean green tea has been claimed to have health-promoting effects, which may be related to the antioxidant activity in vitro. Korean green teas (Woojeon, WJ ; Sejak, SJ ; Jungjak, JJ ; Daejak, DJ) were subjected to different harvested times and yet little research has examined their bioactive compounds. To assess the effect of this different harvested times on nutritional and health-related properties such as Korean green tea polyphenols, flavonoids, theanine and free amino acids, antioxidant activities and radical scavenging activities were determined. Total polyphenols in JJ (37.16 mg/g) was higher than in other products (WJ, 19.55 ; SJ 24.65 ; DJ, 23.28 mg/g). Contents of flavonol and flavone glycosides were the highest at DJ (350.83 mg%) as compared to WJ (220.81), SJ (256.88) and JJ (270.36 mg%). Contents of theanine and total free amino acids were the highest at WJ (14.11, 23.62 mg/g, respectively), but decreased thereafter. Antioxidant activities were higher in JJ and DJ, using the linoleic acid peroxidation, DPPH and ABTS free radical-scavenging activities. However, WJ and SJ had less active antioxidant activity and free radical-scavenging activity. Reducing powers were increased depend on the concentration of extracts. Antioxidant activity and free radical-scavenging activity of JJ and DJ seemed to relate with total polyphenol and flavonoid contents.

Fermentation characteristics of persimmon wine by the mixed culture of Pichia anomala JK04 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermivin cells (Pichia anomala JK04와 Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermivin의 혼합발효에 의한 감와인의 발효 특성)

  • Persimmon contains high levels of vitamins and phenolic compounds, as well as soluble solids, necessary for the fermentation of persimmon wine. Co-fermentation of persimmon wine was carried out using a mixed culture of Pichia anomala JK04, a Korean indigenous yeast that improves wine quality and flavor, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermivin, an industrial wine yeast, in the following ratios: 9:1 (v/v), 5:5 (v/v), 1:9 (v/v) and 0:10 (v/v). During fermentation, the alcohol contents increased more slowly in samples of mixed culture than in samples of the single culture of S. cerevisiae Fermivin. The alcohol contents of all samples reached 12~13% (v/v) after 15 days. All samples of the mixed culture showed greater variety in flavor and taste than S. cerevisiae Fermivin only. In the sensory evaluation, mixed culture samples had higher scores in terms of flavor and overall preference than the single culture samples. Therefore, P. anomala JK04 is thought to improve the wine flavor of Korean domestic persimmon wine.

Effects of Gamma Irradiation and Ascorbic Acid on Reducing N-Nitrosamines in Pork Sausage (감마선 조사와 아스코르브산 첨가가 소시지의 발암성 N-Nitrosamine 파괴 및 생성억제에 미치는 영향)

  • Gamma irradiation was used to reduce the N-nitrosamines in emulsion-type cooked pork sausage during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$. The sausage without ascorbate to maximize the N-nitrosamine formation and the sausage with 200 ppm sodium ascorbate were prepared, respectively. The sausages were aerobically or vacuum packaged and irradiated at 0, 5, 10 and 20 kGy. A statistically significant difference was not shown in N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-nitrosopyrrelidine (NPYR) levels in the sausage prepared with sodium ascorbate at 0 week, while the NDMA and NPYR reduction was observed after 4 weeks storage. The NDMA level in the sausage without sodium ascorbate and irradiated at 10 kGy or above reduced in aerobic packaging, while a dose of 20 key was needed in vacuum packaging. The N-nitroscpyrrolidine reduction was shown at 20 and 30 kGy-irradiation. The results indicated that gamma irradiation was effective to reduce N-nitrosamines level in sausage during storage.

Influence of Groundwater on the Hydrogeochemistry and the Origin of Oseepchun in Dogye Area, Korea (도계지역 오십천에서의 지하수 영향분석 - 수리지화학적 특성과 기원)

  • Water quality of Oseepchun, Dogye area, was investigated quantitatively for its origin and hydrogeochemistry in relation to the influence of groundwater. Groundwater appears to be the principal source of Oseepchun from the water-quality monitoring data including redox potentials, composition of dissolved ions and their correlations, hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopic ratios, and the distribution and occurrence of contaminants. Water-quality type of the surface water was grouped by the water-rock interactions as $Ca-HCO_3$ type originated from carbonated bed-rocks in the Joseon Supergroup, (Ca, Mg)-$SO_4$ type related with dissolution of surfide minerals in coal beds of Pyeongan Supergroup, and (Ca, Mg)-($HCO_3$, $SO_4$) type of the mixed one. Locally water pollution occurs by high $SO_4$ from mine drainage and $NO_3$ from waste-treatment facility. Intensive precipitation in summer has no effect on the water type of Oseepchun, but increases the inflow of nitrate and chloride originated from land surface. Results of this study direct that groundwater-surface water interaction is intimate, and thus surface-water resource management should begin with groundwater characterization.

Chemical Composition of Bangah(Agastache rugosa O. Kuntze) Herb (방아의 화학성분에 관한 연구)

  • Bangah (Agastache rugosa O. Kuntze), one of the wild plant grown in Korea and used for deodorizing some of the fish foods because it's strong and unique flavor, was determined for chemical composition in leaf, flower and stem. The highest protein content of 14.7% was found in leaf and lipids was in the range of $5.25{\sim}7.74%$. Total sugar content in leaf and flower were 27.53% and 14.86%, reducing sugar content were 11.80% and 2.75%, respectively. Fifteen fatty acids in bangah were identified and the major fatty acids were linolenic, palmitic, lauric and linoleic acids. Seventeen total amino acids were determined in leaf and flower. Glutamic acid, aspartic acid and leucine were high in each portion. The major free amino acids were histidine, serine, proline and glutamic acid. Most of minerals were high in leaf and flower than those in stem of bangah except for Ca and Fe. Especially K was higher in leaf and flower than stem by 4 times.

Recoverty of Lithium Carbonate and Nickel from Cathode Active Material LNO(Li2NiO2) of Precursor Process Byproducts (전구체 공정부산물 LNO(Li2NiO2)계 양극활물질로부터 탄산리튬 및 니켈 회수연구)

  • In this study, Li powder was recovered from the by-product of LNO ($Li_2NiO_2$) process, which is the positive electrode active material of waste lithium ion battery, through the $CO_2$ thermal reaction process. In the process of recovering Li powder, the $CO_2$ injection amount is 300 cc/min. The $Li_2NiO_2$ award was phase-separated into the $Li_2CO_3$ phase and the NiO phase by holding at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 min. After this, the collected sample:distilled water = 1:50 weight ratio, and after leaching, the solution was subjected to vacuum filtration to recover $Li_2CO_3$ from the solution, and the NiO powder was recovered. In order to increase the purity of Ni, it was maintained in $H_2$ atmosphere for 3 hours to reduce NiO to Ni. Through the above-mentioned steps, the purity of Li was 2290 ppm and the recovery was 92.74% from the solution, and Ni was finally produced 90.1% purity, 92.6% recovery.

  • We humans try to pursue a better living environment along with the development of modern civilization. In particular, it is a reality that a lot of efforts are being made to improve food, clothing, and shelter. Among them, the concept of housing serves as a major function to improve the quality of life. However, the government's excessive tax rate regulation policy surrounding the sale of such houses is actually inducing annual or monthly rent expenses. Furthermore, it is a reality that even home sales are not being handled smoothly. In general, the cost of owning a house (apartment, etc.) can be divided into acquisition and possession. In addition, a lot of taxes are borne by long-term housing. Subsequently, due to the increase in the transfer tax rate due to the sale of houses, the disposal of property rights is not free. This serves as a limiting factor for market principles. If the tax rate for the transfer of multi-homed people is raised, it can cause a phenomenon that encourages yearly or monthly rent. This is a part where it seems necessary to reduce the transfer tax rate according to the multi-year retention period. If you hold it for 20 years after acquisition, you have paid a lot of taxes and returned your profits. For that reason, you should not impose a transfer tax for trading. The application of the tax-free principle for houses held for more than 20 years will respond to market principles in the future and will function effectively in annual or monthly rent policies.
