  • The longitudinal stability characteristics of a Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft are quite different from that of the conventional airplane due to the existence of force and moment derivatives with regard to height. This stability characteristics plays a great role in designing a safe and efficient WIG due to its potential danger in sea surface proximity. The static and dynamic stability criteria are derived from the motion equations of WIG in the framework of small disturbance theory and discussed in the paper. The static and dynamic stability analyses of a 20-passenger WIG are conducted based on the wind tunnel test data and the dynamic motion behaviors are investigated for the change of the design parameters. Finally, the flying quality of the 20-passenger WIG is analysed at the cruising condition according to the military regulations.

  • The engine core of a 65hp-turboshaft engine for UAV is developed and modified into a 55lbf-turbojet engine. Since the core engine is installed with a propelling nozzle, which has the same mass flow characteristics as the power generator of the turboshaft engine its mechanical and aerodynamic characteristics are basically the same as those of the complete engine. Engine output is not shaft power but thrust force that is easier to measure. The core engine is very useful for core test purpose. Besides, the core engine itself can be directly used for propulsion of small air vehicles.

  • Theoretically, stable operations of an inlet are achieved at the design condition. However, at off-design conditions supersonic inlets often encounter the problem of aerodynamic instability, called inlet buzz. During inlet buzz, supersonic inlets exhibit considerable oscillation of the shock system in front of the inlet and corresponding large pressure fluctuations downstream. This phenomenon results in decrease of engine performance. An experimental and numerical study was conducted to investigate the phenomenon of supersonic inlet buzz on a generic, axisymmetric, external-compression inlet with a single-surface center-body. This study suggest that intermittent buzz exist and the frequency become to be large as increasing the back pressure.

  • In this study, a numerical analysis is made of the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in the solar arrays of HALE (High Altitude Lond Endurance) UAV. In the stratosphere where UAV operates, high level solar radiation is induced, heat transfer decreases due to natural convection and forced convection is dominated by ambient flow. In order to predict the solar array temperature range in this environment condition, the conjugate heat transfer analysis was carried out for the solar arrays on the main wing. The investigation focused on the temperature distribution of solar array and heat transfer characteristics according to influence of solar energy, flight condition as vehicle speed, air density, temperature.

  • The tracking performance of the big tracking antenna system using Radio Frequency is very important for the tracking and position measuring for the flight vehicle, but the precise measuring of the tracking performance is not easy, especially for the big antenna system such as ground telemetry antenna or tracking radar in space application because it's characteristics could be different in accordance with the antenna direction. In this paper, the error factors impacting on the tracking performance (pointing accuracy and tracking accuracy) and the ranges of each factor are reviewed, and the simple and efficient method to measure the tracking performance is introduced which using low earth orbit as the signal source. Finally, the measurement results for the telemetry ground antenna in NARO Space Center are reviewed.

  • this study, forced vibration analysis was performed on the composite main wing structure of a small scale WIG craft which is equipped two-stroke pusher type reciprocating engine. The structural vibration analysis based on the finite element method was performed using a commercial FEM code, MSC/NASTRAN. Excitations for the frequency response analysis were assumed as the H-mode(horizontal mode), the V-mode(vertical mode) and the X-mode(twisted mode) which are typical main vibration modes of engine. And excitations for the transient response analysis were assumed as the L-mode(longitudinal mode) with the oscillating propeller thrust which occurs.

  • In the paper, the design and evaluation of a helicopter trajectory tracking controller are presented. The control algorithm is implemented using the feedback linearization technique and the two time-scale separation architecture. In addition, and on-line adaptive architecture that employs a neural network compensating the model inversion error caused by the deficiency of full knowledge of helicopter dynamic is applied to augment the attitude control system. Trajectory tracking performance of the control system in evaluated using modified TMAN simulation program representing as Apache helicopter. It is show that the on-line neural network in an adaptive control architecture is very effective in dealing with the performance depreciation problem of the trajectory tracking control caused by insufficient information of dynamics.

  • The analysis of an aircraft flight dynamics is recently very convenient because of the introduction of state-space method and a well-developed package software. The representation of a dynamic system is described as a simple form of matrix calculation and the unique form of model is available for the linear or nonlinear, time variant or time invariant, mono variable or multi variable system with state-space method. And this analysis can be simplified with the specific functions of a package software and it is very simplified to execute the simulation of the dynamic characteristics for an aircraft model with an interactive graphical treatment. The purpose of this study is to develope an educational flight simulator for the students who need to analyze the dynamic characteristics of an aircraft that is primarily to execute the simulation for the analysis of the transient response and frequency response of an aircraft stability. Furthermore the dynamic characteristics of an aircraft motion is set up as dynamical animation tool for the control response on 3-axis motions of an aircraft.

  • This paper focuses on the application of the proposed aerodynamic optimization techniques to design the blade planform of helicopter rotors. The design problems are formulated to maximize the hover figure of merit and the equivalent lift-to-drag ratio for high forward speed by optimally distributing airfoils, twist, and chord along the blade span. The numerical characters are investigated by solving various design problems. The advantages and limitations with the present design approach and the present modeling features for performance prediction are discussed. The recommendations for the required model refinements to get more accurate optimal configurations are addressed as future research areas.

  • Vent-relief valve performed as a safety-valve combination for liquid propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle, which can vent the vaporized oxygen vapor during both filling cryogenic oxidizer into tank and flight. We have designed vent-relief model by using the AMESim code to predict dynamic characteristics and simulate pneumatic behavior of valve. To validate valve model we have compared by opening time in vent model, and opening/closing pressure by mathematical methods and improved the accuracy through numerical flow analysis by using FLUENT code. In this study, we had verified design parameters and analyzed operating performances. We can use these analysis results to precedent development study on propellant feeding system of Korea Space Launch Vehicle.
