A mathematical model of vapor explosion propagation is presented. The model predict two-dimensional, transient flow fields and energies of the four fluid phases of melt drop, fragmented debris, liquid coolant and vapor coolant by solving a set of governing equations with the relevant constitutive relations. These relations include melt fragmentation, coolant-phase-change, and heat and momentum exchange models. To allow thermodynamic non-equilibrium between the coolant liquid and vapor, an equation of state for oater is uniquely formulated. A multiphase code, TRACER, has been developed based on this mathematical formulation. A set of base calculations for tin/water explosions show that the model predicts the explosion propagation speed and peak pressure in a reasonable degree although the quantitative agreement relies strongly on the parameters in the constitutive relations. A set of calculations for sensitivity studies on these parameters have identified the important initial conditions and relations. These are melt fragmentation rate, momentum exchange function, heat transfer function and coolant phase change model as well as local vapor fractions and fuel fractions.
Alkali rhyolites in the Cheonmunbong of the Mt. Baekdu stratovolcano show porphyritic texture in the glassy or aphanic groundmass. Major phenocryst is alkali-feldspar, pyroxene, and amphibole, and small amount of microphenocryst is olivine, quartz, opaque mineral (ilmenite). The content of $Fe^{2+}/(Fe^{2+}+Mg^{2+})$ and alkali elements in the mafic minerals is high. Alkali feldspar is classified as sanidine or anorthclase, olivine as fayalite, and pyroxene as ferro-hedenbergite of ferro-augite area. Amphibole belongs to alkali amphibole group, but FeO and $Fe_2O_3$ were not separated, so it is required future studies. Nb(-) anomaly suggesting that slab-derived materials might have played a primary role in the genesis of the rhyolite magma, is not observed. It is noted that they originated in the within plate environment which is not related to subduction zone of the convergent plate boundary. The Mt. Baekdu alkaline rocks are classified into the comendite series. The alkali rhyolites of the summit at Mt. Baekdu shows the disequilibrium mineral assemblages, suggesting that it evolved from thrachytic magma with experience of magma mixing as well as fractional crystallization.

Load balancing attempts to improve the performance of a distributed computing system by transferring some of the workload of a congested site to others. A load balancing scheme that supports both the source-initiated and the server- initiated load balancing is proposed in this paper. It can model both the m/m/1 queue(no load balancing) and the m/m/n queue(perfect load balancing) as the extreme State variables are replicated into every site, and copy consistency constraints are relaxed more weakly. We propose weak copy consistency constraints which correlate the outdated state information to that of the current state. We also derive sufficient conditions under which each scheduler can guarantee the load balancing without communication Using this model, the problem of load balancing is converted to that of maintaining the consistency of states and communication overhead becomes less than that of the bidding algorithm. The scheme is simulated by event tracing, compared to the two extreme cases and the bidding algorithm. The results show that the mean response time and the number of messages are reduced by 0-35% and 40-100% respectively, compared with the bidding algorithm. Finally the effects of some system parameters are described.

An experimental study has been performed to investigate the process from nonequilibrium state to equilibrium state in redeveloping turbulent boundary layer beyond separation-reattachment using pitot tube and hot-wire anemometer. The model sued in the experiment has the form of a backward facing step which is assembled by a two-dimensional 4:1 half elipse and a plate. Measurements are carried out up to a distance of about 50 step height downstream of the step, where the reattachment observed at about x/h=6.5. The profiles of the shape factor H the Clauser parameter G and the coefficient of friction $C^{f}$ exhibited the characteristics similar to those of the equilibrium turbulent boundary layer from x/h=25, and the profiles of the trubulent quantities did from x/h=35. However, the wake region of the boundary layer does not seem to recover the equilibrium turbulent boundary layer even at x/h=50. By considering the distributions of the intermittency factor it has been noted that the turbulence structure changes gradually from a mixing layer to a turbulent boundary layer along downstream direction after reattachment. This becomes clearer as we analyse the one-dimensional energy spectra and the dissipation energy spectra which are measured and caculated at various downstream positions after the backward facing step.p.

A simple method for determining the airborne concentration of radon daughter products has been developed, which is based on gross alpha counting of the air filter collections at several time intervals after completion of air sampling. The concentration of each nuclide is then obtained from an equation involving the alpha disintegrations, the sampling time, and the known numerical coefficients. The state of radioactive disequilibrium is also investigated. The atmosphere sampled in the TRIGA Mark-III reactor room was largely in disequilibrium. The extent of radioactive disequilibrium between radon daughter products seems likely depend on sampling times associated with turbulence conditions. The data obtained here will certainly provide useful information on the evaluation of internal exposure and calibration of effluent monitoring instruments.
To designate rural landscape spatially, land use and topographic features for 383 of "Ri"s or "Dong", which is a basic administrative unit in Korea, were analyzed using GIS application. We have categorized rural landscape into three types such as agricultural, natural and urban landscape by land use. On the basis of spatial landscape pattern, rural area could be classified into 6 groups of Mountainous area (MA), Mountainous village area (MV), Developing mountainous village area (DM), Plain agricultural area (PA), Developing plain village area (DP) and Urbanized area (UA) according to the ratios of land for agricultural and urban use as the criteria. In MA, the ratio of upland area including orchard was slightly larger than that of paddy, while that of paddy was about 1.5 times larger than upland in other groups. Forested area was distributed more than two-thirds among natural landscape area in MA, MV and DM. In plain types (PA and DP), the ratio of irrigated paddy was extremely larger than partially irrigated paddy and the ratio of water body area among the natural landscape area was two times as large as that of forested area. The ratio of land for industrial and livestock facilities among urban landscape area were 20% or more in MV, DM and DP, and it means that these facilities are mainly distributed in the developing ru ral area where residents and industry are closely related each other. According to the relative ratio of sloped land of 6 categorized areas, the MA area have lots of land with E and F slopes and MV and DM have all grades of sloped land evenly distributed in relative to other types of rural landscape. It has been showed that PA, DP and UA occupied more than two-thirds of land with A or B slope. In case of the analysis of topological distribution in 6 types of rural landscape, there were overwhelmingly lager highland areas in MA. Conclusively, we have confirmed that 6 types of rural landscape classified by land use pattern in 3 categorized areas such as agricultural, natural and urban landscape area would be useful for the management of rural area. For development of sustainable agriculture and the preservation of rural amenity, proper management ways should be properly applied according to rural landscape patterns.
Biogeochemical characteristics involving redox processes in groundwater from a riverine alluvial aquifer was investigated using multi-level monitoring wells (up to 30m in depth). Anaerobic conditions were predominant and high Fe ($14{\sim}37mg/L$) and Mn ($1{\sim}4mg/L$) concentrations were observed at 10 to 20 m in depth. Below 20 m depth, dissolved sulfide was detected. Presumably, these high Fe and Mn concentrations were derived from the reduction of Fe- and Mn-oxides because dissolved oxygen and nitrate were nearly absent and Fe and Mn contents were considerable in the sediments. The depth range of high Mn concentration is wider than that of high Fe concentration. Dissolved organics may be derived from the upper layers. Sulfate reduction is more active than Fe and Mn reduction below 20 m in depth. Disparity of calculated redox potential from the various redox couples indicates that redox states are in disequilibrium condition in groundwater. Carbonate minerals such as siderite and rhodochrosite may control the dissolved concentrations of Fe(II) and Mn(II), and iron sulfide minerals control for Fe(II) where sulfide is detected because these minerals are near saturation from the calculation of solubility equilibria.

The Solar and Space Environment Division of the Korean Space Science Society investigated the use and possession of ground and satellite observations and models of solar and planetary data operated by domestic research institutes and universities. Based on the findings, we would like to introduce observational instruments, data, and models in solar and interplanetary fields in this paper to improve understanding and use of each data and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The ground and satellite observations, which require a lot of investment, were mainly held by research institutes (National Meteorological Satellite Center, Polar Research Institute, Korean Space Weather, Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and KAIST Satellite Research Institute), and model development was overwhelmingly carried out at Kyung Hee University. In solar and interplanetary fields, we introduce Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS), neutron monitors, and the analysis models [for the Solar Dynamics Observatory/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (SDO/AIA) and Hinode/X-Ray Telescope (XRT) observations] in nonequilibrium ionization state as representatives. Survey on solar and interplanetary fields can be downloaded from the website of the Korean Space Science Society (http://ksss.or.kr/). The paper makes know the importance of long-term and continuous management of space science-related materials, and hopes to contribute to enhancing the status of domestic space science data by utilizing locally produced data by various personnel participating in space science research.

The phase change materials have been extensively used as an optical rewritable data storage media utilizing their phase change properties. Recently, the phase change materials have been spotlighted for the application of non-volatile memory device, such as the phase change random access memory. In this work, we have investigated the crystallization behavior and microstructure analysis of In-Sb-Te (IST) thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering. Transmission electron microscopy measurement was carried out after the annealing at $300^{\circ}C$, $350^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$ for 5 min. It was observed that InSb phases change into $In_3SbTe_2$ phases and InTe phases as the temperature increases. It was found that the thickness of thin films was decreased and the grain size was increased by the bright field transmission electron microscopy (BF TEM) images and the selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns. In a high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) study, it shows that $350^{\circ}C$-annealed InSb phases have {111} facet because the surface energy of a {111} close-packed plane is the lowest in FCC crystals. When the film was heated up to $400^{\circ}C$, $In_3SbTe_2$ grains have coherent micro-twins with {111} mirror plane, and they are healed annealing at $450^{\circ}C$. From the HRTEM, InTe phase separation was occurred in this stage. It can be found that $In_3SbTe_2$ forms in the crystallization process as composition of the film near stoichiometric composition, while InTe phase separation may take place as the composition deviates from $In_3SbTe_2$.

This paper describes behaviors of two-phase open channel flow inside the flash chamber of a horizontal Multi-Stage-Flash evaporator numerically along with the experimental observations. Bubble trajectories and the velocity and temperature distributions of the liquid phase were predicted by using the particle-source-in-cell(PSI-Cell) method with the appropriate bubble motion/growth equations. Size and number of bubble nuclei embedded in the incoming liquid(brine) were taken into account as important parameters in addition to the conventional ones such as the velocity, degree of inlet superheat, inlet opening height, and the liquid level. Bubble motions, which are unsteady, appeared to be mostly determined by the buoyancy and the drag forces. The calculations, though a number of simplifying assumptions were made, reasonably simulated the hydrodynamic behaviors of the two-phase horizontal stream observed in the experiments. The simulated temperature distributions also agreed fairly well with the other's measurements. Non-equilibrium allownaces, evaluated from the simulated temperature distributions, were within the range of those obtained from the existing correlations, and reduced with the increases of the number and size of incoming bubble nuclei due to vigorous flashing.
