Postcolonialism, as a school of thought, has become enormously influential for understanding the recent phenomena of globalization. While rejecting the universalizing categories of the Enlightenment, postcolonialism has called into question the old idea of culture and identity as a transcendent regime of authenticity and purity. It has also celebrated the diasporic experiences that entail porous and hybrid cultural identities as a potential site of struggle and resistance against the dominant cultural and discursive order. It is argued, however, that postcolonial theory's emancipatory claims relating to the diversified global culture tend to be complicit with transnational capitalism that brings about global issues of material as well as cultural injustice. This article, through a thorough review of the ways the postcolonial theoretical framework has been developed and appropriated by main figures in postcolonial scholarship, seeks for a theoretical and critical strategy to grasp the complex conditions of global inequality.

This article reviews studies on the societal challenge and technological innovation. Technological innovation in response to social problems is a relatively recent topic of Innovation Studies. Socially-oriented innovations and policies are different in terms of the goals, innovation processes, and ecosystems when compared with industrial innovation. This study examines the existing research that discusses science and technology innovation from the viewpoint of solving societal problems and discusses the direction of future research. This paper presents major research issues on the characteristics of innovation in societal problem solving, innovation governance, roles and ecosystem of innovators, and relationship between societal problem solving policies and other policies.

천문학자들에게 분광관측은 천체를 연구하는데 가장 강력한 방법이다. 태양계 바깥쪽에 위치한 목성, 토성, 타이탄 연구도 분광관측은 행성천문학자들에게 매우 유용하여 대형 지상 망원경을 사용한 분광 관측과 더불어 행성탐사선들에 장착된 분광기를 사용하여 새롭고 유용한 과학적 정보를 얻어왔다. 본 발표에서는 20세기 말에 시작된 탐사선을 이용한 외행성계 탐사와 지상관측 결과를 리뷰하고 얼마 전 토성 탐사를 마친 카시니 탐사선, 현재 목성에서 활약하고 있는 주노 탐사선, 이들과 병행하여 수행되었고, 수행되고 있는 지상 분광관측 결과를 소개한다. 목성, 토성, 타이탄 탐사는 미국과 서구유럽에 의해 주도적으로 수행되어 왔는데, 지금까지의 탐사선들과 지상관측으로 축적된 자료들에 대한 정밀 분석과 비판적 검토를 수행하면 우리나라 우주개발 중장기 계획에 포함 되어 있는 행성탐사계획의 최적화된 방향 결정에도 도움이 될 것이다.

Interest in smart cities is growing; information and communication technology, urban planning, urban economy development, health, and many other areas are intertwined within smart city research and practice. The definition of smart city is evolving, and its vagueness is sometimes confusing. This review of the smart city literature tries to capture the big picture of this big idea. This review places into context work done since 2016, as earlier work is well reviewed in Albino (2015) and Cochia (2014). First is a review of the various smart city definitions. Second, an inventory of terms related to or subsumed by the smart city label are presented. Third, outcomes of indexes created to measure a city's smartness are presented. Fourth, the taxonomies used to organize the disparate content that falls under the smart city umbrella are discussed. Fifth, the most recent literature associated with six commonly recognized subgenres, namely smart economy, smart governance, smart living, smart people, smart environment, and smart mobility are reviewed. Sixth, important critiques of the smart city idea are presented.

This article offers a review of the major literature about sectoral innovation studies of Korea and its implications over the past 30 years. The literature on the sectoral innovation studies in Korea has focused on analysing successful technological catch-up from an evolutionary perspective and most of research has centered on the issues about entry strategies, learning mechanisms. Recently "Emerging economies" like Korea in the 2000s face major challenges as they make a transition from (a) a phase of economic development characterised by 'catching up' with the global technological frontier, involving technological "imitation", to (b) a phase of continuing development based on the development of new knowledge for globally leading (post catch-up) product and process innovation. This paper reviews those bodies of literature of patterns of sectoral innovation, technological capability accumulation and catch-up process, catch-up innovation and institutions, and patterns of growth dynamics. Finally, given the importance of sectoral innovation studies, we suggest that industrial upgrading, transition towards leadership, dark side of catch-up issues are needed for future research directions.

It has been debating about conducting and interpretating of 2-year rodent carcinogenicity bioassay. Although some criticisms arising in usefulness, it has been still known that long-term carcinogenicity studies using rodents would be the only assay system to predict any possible human risks, which would not be replaced. Both regulatory agencies and academies have developed some assay models, however, there have been controversy whether those study designs and interpretations are based on sound scientific rationale and validated data. Such kinds of issues including choice of species/strain, dose level selection, duration of study, number of animals per group, historical control data, monitoring parameters, terminal investigations, peer review, statistics, alternative assay models, interpretation of neoplastic lesions, and risk assessments, were reviewed.
