A high-order accurate Euler flow solver based on a discontinuous Galerkin finite-element method has been developed for the numerical simulations of blade-vortex interaction phenomena on unstructured meshes. A free vortex in freestream was investigated to assess the vortex-preserving property and the accuracy of the present flow solver. Blade-vortex interaction problems in subsonic and transonic freestreams were simulated by adopting a multi-level solution-adaptive dynamic mesh refinement/coarsening technique. The results were compared with those of other numerical and experimental methods. It was shown that the present discontinuous Galerkin flow solver can preserve the vortex structure for significantly longer vortex convection time and can accurately capture the complex unsteady blade-vortex interaction flows, including generation and propagation of acoustic waves.

The numerical simulations with unstructured mesh by cell-centered and vertex-centered approaches were performed for the quadrilateral and triangular meshes. For the 2-D incompressible supersonic vortex flow, the simulation results and the analytic solution were compared and the accuracy was assessed. The calculation efficiency was measured by the parameter defined by the consumed CPU time multiplied by absolute error, As a results, equilateral triangular mesh yielded the best accuracy and efficiency among the tested meshes.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach is now playing an important role in the engineering process in these days. Generating proper grid system in time for the region of interest is prerequisite for the efficient numerical calculation of flow physics using CFD approach. Grid generation is, however, usually considered as a major obstacle for a routine and successful application of numerical approaches in the engineering process. CFD approach based on the unstructured grid system is gaining popularity due to its simplicity and efficiency for generating grid system compared to the structured grid approaches, especially for complex geometries. In this paper an automated triangular surface grid generation using CAD(Computer Aided Design) surface data is proposed. According to the present method, the CAD surface data imported in the STL(Stereo-lithography) format is processed to identify feature edges defining the topology and geometry of the surface shape first. When the feature edges are identified, node points along the edges are distributed. The initial fronts which connect those feature edge nodes are constructed and then they are advanced along the CAD surface data inward until the surface is fully covered by triangular surface grid cells using Advancing Front Method. It is found that this approach can be implemented in an automated way successfully saving man-hours and reducing human-errors in generating triangular surface grid system.

The effects of continuous blowing on flow control and stall suppression for flows over a NACA 0015 airfoil at low Reynolds numbers were numerically investigated through its parameter variation on unstructured meshes. The aerodynamic force and moment variations due to flow control were examined, along with the stall angle-of-attack change for stall suppression. The results showed that blowing with relatively strong jet increases lift at the cost of drag increment below stall angle. Continuous blowing delays flow stall when it is implemented near the leading edge. When the blowing jet was aligned along the flow direction on the airfoil, the favorable flow control effect was most significant below the stall angle of attack.
The numerical program has been developed for the purpose of the complicate geometries application using CIP method. The non-staggered, non-orthogonal, and unstructured grid system can be also used for the various geometries in the program. For validating CIP solver, the lid-driven cavity flow and solitary wave propagation flow are carried out. Test results show a good agreement with the verified results. The dynamic solver was used for the behavior of moving body. Interface process between the two solvers is introduced. The research was performed on the flow problem around torpedo and log and the flow problem in a tank in order to analyze the three phase flow problem Although the comparison to the verified results was not quantitatively performed, the trend of the results was reasonable.

An efficient variable-reordering method for finite element meshes is used and the effect of variable-reordering is investigated. For the element renumbering of unstructured meshes, Cuthill-McKee ordering is adopted. The newsy reordered global matrix has a much narrower bandwidth than the original one, making the ILU preconditioner perform bolter. The effect of variable reordering on the convergence behaviour of saddle point type matrix it studied, which results from P2/P1 element discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations. We also propose and test 'level(0) preconditioner'and 'level(2) ILU preconditioner', which are another versions of the existing 'level(1) ILU preconditioner', for the global matrix generated by P2/P1 finite element method of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. We show that 'level(2) ILU preconditioner'performs much better than the others only with a little extra computations.
In the present study, solution algorithms for the connotation of unsteady flows on an unstructured mesh me presented Dual time stepping is incorporated to achieve the 2-nd order temporal accuracy while reducing the linearization and the factorization errors associated with a linear solver. Hence, any time step can be used by only considering physical phenomena. Gauss-Seidel scheme is used to solve linear system of equations. Rigid motion and suing analogy method for moving mesh are all considered and compared. Special treatments of suing analogy for high aspect ratio cells are presented. Finally, numerical results for oscillating ing are compared with experimental data.
A three-dimensional (3D) unstructured hydrodynamic solver for transient two-phase flows has been developed for a 3D component of a nuclear system code and a component-scale analysis tool. A two-fluid three-field model is used for the two-phase flows. The three fields represent a continuous liquid, an entrained liquid, and a vapour field. An unstructured grid is adopted for realistic simulations of the flows in a complicated geometry. The semi-implicit ICE (Implicit Continuous-fluid Eulerian) numerical scheme has been applied to the unstructured non-staggered grid. This paper presents the numerical method and the preliminary results of the calculations. The results show that the modified numerical scheme is robust and predicts the phase change and the flow transitions due to boiling and flashing very well.
