Smart HCI Based on the Informations Fusion of Biosignal and Vision (생체 신호와 비전 정보의 융합을 통한 스마트 휴먼-컴퓨터 인터페이스)

  • We propose a smart human-computer interface replacing conventional mouse interface. The interface is able to control cursor and command action with only hand performing without object. Four finger motions(left click, right click, hold, drag) for command action are enough to express all mouse function. Also we materialize cursor movement control using image processing. The measure what we use for inference is entropy of EMG signal, gaussian modeling and maximum likelihood estimation. In image processing for cursor control, we use color recognition to get the center point of finger tip from marker, and map the point onto cursor. Accuracy of finger movement inference is over 95% and cursor control works naturally without delay. we materialize whole system to check its performance and utility.

Extended SURF Algorithm with Color Invariant Feature and Global Feature (컬러 불변 특징과 광역 특징을 갖는 확장 SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) 알고리즘)

  • A correspondence matching is one of the important tasks in computer vision, and it is not easy to find corresponding points in variable environment where a scale, rotation, view point and illumination are changed. A SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithm have been widely used to solve the problem of the correspondence matching because it is faster than SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) with closely maintaining the matching performance. However, because SURF considers only gray image and local geometric information, it is difficult to match corresponding points on the image where similar local patterns are scattered. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an extended SURF algorithm that uses the invariant color and global geometric information. The proposed algorithm can improves the matching performance since the color information and global geometric information is used to discriminate similar patterns. In this paper, the superiority of the proposed algorithm is proved by experiments that it is compared with conventional methods on the image where an illumination and a view point are changed and similar patterns exist.

Development of a SAD Correlater for Real-time Stereo Vision (실시간 스테레오 비젼 시스템을 위한 SAD 정합연산기 설계)

  • A real-time three-dimensional vision is a passive system, which would support various applications including collision avoidance, home networks. It is a good alternative of active systems, which are subject to interference in noisy environments. In this paper, we designed a SAD correlator with respect to resource usage for a real-time three-dimensional vision system. Regular structures, linear data flow and abundant parallelism make the correlation algorithm a good candidate for a reconfigurable hardware. We implemented two versions of SAD correlator in HDL and synthesized them to determine resource requirements and performance. From the experiment we show that the SAD correlator fits into reconfigurable hardware in marginal cost and can handle about 30 frames/sec with $640{\times}480$ images.

Fast Computation of DWT and JPEG2000 using GPU (GPU를 이용한 DWT 및 JPEG2000의 고속 연산)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method for Processing DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Since the DWT and EBCOT (embedded block coding with optimized truncation) are the most complicated submodules in JPEG2000, we design a high-performance processing framework for performing DWT using the fragment shader of GPU based on the render-to-texture (RTT) architecture. Experimental results show that the performance increases significantly, in which DWT running on modern GPU is more than 10 times faster than on modern CPU. Furthermore, by replacing the DWT part of Jasper which is the JPEG2000 reference software, the overall processing is 2$\sim$16 times faster than the original JasPer. The GPU-driven render-to-texture architecture proposed in this paper can be used in the general image and computer vision processing for high-speed processing.

Binary Connected-component Labeling with Block-based Labels and a Pixel-based Scan Mask (블록기반 라벨과 화소기반 스캔마스크를 이용한 이진 연결요소 라벨링)

  • Binary connected-component labeling is widely used in the fields of the image processing and the computer vision. Many kinds of labeling techniques have been developed, and two-scan is known as the fastest method among them. Traditionally pixel-based scan masks have been used for the first stage of the two-scan. Recently, block-based labeling techniques were introduced by C. Grana et. al. and L. He et. al. They are faster than pixel-based labeling methods. In this paper, we propose a new binary connected-component labeling technique with block-based labels and a pixel-based scan mask. The experimental results with various images show that the proposed method is faster than the He's which is known as the fastest method currently. The amount of performance enhancement is averagely from 3.9% to 22.4% according to the sort of the images.

Design of a Realtime Stereo Vision System using Adaptive Support-weight (적응적 영역 가중치를 이용한 실시간 스테레오 비전 시스템 설계)

  • The stereo system based on local matching is very popular due to its algorithmic simplicity, however it is limited to apply to various applications because it shows poor quality with low matching rates. In this paper, we propose and design a realtime stereo system based on an adaptive support-weight and the system shows low error rates and realtime performance. Generally, in the adaptive support-weight algorithm the intermediate computing results can not be reused to reduce the number of computations. In this research we modify the scheduling to reuse the intermediate results for the better performance by processing rows and columns separately. The nonlinear functions such as exponential or arc tangent have been designed with piecewise linear and step functions by empirical simulations and error analysis. The proposed architecture is composed of 9 processing elements for realtime performance. The proposed stereo system has been designed and synthesized using Donbu Hitek 0.18um standard cell library and can run up to 350Mhz operation frequency (33 frames per second) with 424K gates.

Calculation of Diffraction Patterns for Incidence of Planewave on Both Sides of a Dielectric Wedge by Using Multipole Expansion (쇄기형 유전체의 양면에 평면파 입사시 다극전개를 이용한 회절패턴 계산)

  • Diffraction patterns of electromagnetic fields for the incidence of E-polarized plane wave on both interfaces of an arbitrary-angle dielect wedge are obtained by sum of geometric optics term and the edge diffracted fields. The diffraction coefficients of the edge diffracted fields are evaluated by employing the physical optics approximation and then correcting its error with the multipole line source at the dielectric edge. For the wedge angle $120^{circ}$, the incident angle $60^{circ}$, the relative dielectric constant of the dielectric wedge, 2, 5, and 10, and the observation distance from the tip of the wedge, 5 and 10 wavelength, the diffraction coefficients and the diffraction patterns corresponding to geometric optics, physical optics, and the solution corrected by the multipole line source are plotted, respectively. While the corrected solutions presented in this paper are valid only in the far-field region, these asymptotic solutions show to satisfy the boundary condition on the dielectric interfaces.

  • In this paper, we present an overall algorithm for real-time camera parameter extraction which is one of key elements in implementing virtual studio. The prevailing mechanical methode for tracking cameras have several disadvantage such as the price, calibration with the camera and operability. To overcome these disadvantages we calculate camera parameters directly from the input image using computer-vision technique. When using zoom lenses, it requires real time calculation of lens distortion. But in Tsai algorithm, adopted for camera calibration, it can be calculated through nonlinear optimization in triple parameter space, which usually takes long computation time. We proposed a new method, separating lens distortion parameter from the other two parameters, so that it is reduced to nonlinear optimization in one parameter space, which can be computed fast enough for real time application.

  • Image segmentation is the task which partitions the image into meaningful regions and considered to be one of the most important steps in computer vision and image processing. Image segmentation is also widely used in object-based video compression such as MPEG-4 to extract out the object regions from the given frame. Watershed algorithm is frequently used to obtain the more accurate region boundaries. But, it is well known that the watershed algorithm is extremely sensitive to gradient noise and usually results in oversegmentation. To solve such a problem, we propose an image segmentation method which is robust to noise by using stabilized inverse diffusion equation (SIDE) and is more efficient in segmentation by employing multiresolution approach. In this paper, we apply both the region projection method using labels of adjacent regions and the region merging method based on region adjacency graph (RAG). Experimental results on noisy image show that the oversegmenation is reduced and segmentation efficiency is increased.

Design of an Infrared Multi-touch Screen Controller using Stereo Vision (스테레오 비전을 이용한 저전력 적외선 멀티 터치스크린 컨트롤러의 설계)

  • Touch-enabled technology is increasingly being accepted as a main communication interface between human and computers. However, conventional touchscreen technologies, such as resistive overlay, capacitive overlay, and SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave), are not cost-effective for large screens. As an alternative to the conventional methods, we introduce a newly emerging method, an optical imaging touchscreen which is much simpler and more cost-effective. Despite its attractive benefits, optical imaging touchscreen has to overcome some problems, such as heavy computational complexity, intermittent ghost points, and over-sensitivity, to be commercially used. Therefore, we designed a hardware controller for signal processing and multi-coordinate computation, and proposed Infrared-blocked DA(Dark Area) manipulation as a solution. While the entire optical touch control took 34ms with a 32-bit microprocessor, the designed hardware controller can manage 2 valid coordinates at 200fps and also reduce energy consumption of infrared diodes from 1.8Wh to 0.0072Wh.
