  • This paper presents an effective vision based method for LED traffic light detection at the daytime. First, the proposed method calculates horizontal coordinates to set region of interest (ROI) on input sequence images. Second, the proposed uses color segmentation method to extract region of green and red traffic light. Next, to classify traffic light and another noise, shape filter and haar-like feature value are used. Finally, temporal delay filter with weight is applied to remove blinking effect of LED traffic light, and state and weight of traffic light detection are used to classify types of traffic light. For simulations, the proposed method is implemented through Intel Core CPU with 2.80 GHz and 4 GB RAM, and tested on the urban and rural road video. Average detection rate of traffic light is 94.50 % and average recognition rate of traffic type is 90.24 %. Average computing time of the proposed method is 11 ms.

  • The white-balance system for color tevision is characterized by 5 input-5 output nonlinear process. A design strategy of fuzzy control rules is treated in which it can be adopted to the white balance adjustment for color television. A fuzzy rule based on an expert's knowledge is constructed, and then a multivariable fuzzy control rule is designed. Since human has just two hands, he can manipulate two variables simutaneously. In case when the process to be controlled has more than three control variables, expert's control rule is much different from the multivariable control rule. A multivariable fuzzy control rule is constructed by utilizing the expert' knowledge and rough relations between input and output variables, and its usefulness is shown by experiments.

  • This paper deals with the robot system of recognizing human's expression from a detected human's face and then showing human's emotion. A face detection method is as follows. First, change RGB color space to CIElab color space. Second, extract skin candidate territory. Third, detect a face through facial geometrical interrelation by face filter. Then, the position of eyes, a nose and a mouth which are used as the preliminary data of expression, he uses eyebrows, eyes and a mouth. In this paper, the change of eyebrows and are sent to a robot through serial communication. Then the robot operates a motor that is installed and shows human's expression. Experimental results on 10 Persons show 78.15% accuracy.

  • A method to estimate the 3-D shape of surface with specular reflection is proposed, where the difference between the images reflected from a flat surface and a curved surface is used. First, we analyzed the geometry of the spatial reflection at specular surface and the variation of reflected light due to curved surface, whose results are used to estimate 3-D shape. The proposed method is shown to be effective via experiments using the illumination with spatially distributed light source and the CCD camera to capture the light reflected from a surface. In experiments, the captured images from curved surface with specular reflection are processed to approximately estimate 3-D shape.

  • Frictional heating in brakes causes thermoelastic distortion of the contacting bodies and hence affects the contact pressure distribution. The resulting thermo-mechanical coupling can cause thermoelastic instability (TEI) if the sliding speed is sufficiently high, leading to non-uniform heating called hot spots and low frequency vibration known as hot judder. The vibration of brakes to the known phenomenon of frictionally-excited thermoelastic instability is estimated studying the interface temperature and pressure evolution with time. A simple model has been considered where a layer with half-thickness$\alpha$slides with speed V between two half-planes which are rigid and non-conducting. The advantage of this properlysimple model permits us to deduce analytically the critical conditions for the onset of instability, which is the relation between the critical speed and the growth rate of the interface temperature and pressure. Symmetrical component of pressure and temperature distribution at the layer interfaces can be more unstable than antisymmetrical component. As the thickness $\alpha$ reduces, the system becomes more apt to thermoelastic instability. For perturbations with wave number smaller than the critical$m_{cr}$ the temperature increases with m vice versa for perturbations with wave number larges than $m_{cr}$ , the temperature decreases with m.

  • Recently, a medium-level representation named "Stixel" has been extensively researched in stereo vision-based environmental perception. Obstacle detection using Stixel representation consists of three steps: static Stixel generation, dynamic Stixel generation, and Stixel segmentation. This paper focuses on the Stixel segmentation step and has two contributions. One is that it shows that Stixel segmentation performance can be enhanced by utilizing both image domain and real world domain features. The other is that it suggests that parameters used for Stixel segmentation can be effectively tuned based on genetic algorithm. The proposed method was quantitatively evaluated and the result showed that the proposed method increased Stixel segmentation accuracy compared with the previous method.

  • Multiview stereo matching algorithm is used to reconstruct 3D shape from a set of 2D images. Conventional multiview stereo algorithms have been implemented on high-performance hardware due to the heavy complexity that contains a large number of calculations in each step. However, as the performance of mobile graphics processors has recently increased rapidly, complex computer vision algorithms can now be implemented on mobile devices like a smartphone and an embedded board. In this paper we parallelize an multiview stereo algorithm using OpenCL on mobile GPU and provide various optimization techniques on the embedded hardware with limited resource.

  • Vision-based lane sensing systems require accurate and robust sensing performance in lane detection. Besides, there exists trade-off between the computational burden and processor cost, which should be considered for implementing the systems in passenger cars. In this paper, a stereo vision-based lane detection system is developed with considering sensor configuration aspects. An inverse perspective mapping method is formulated based on the relative correspondence between the left and right cameras so that the 3-dimensional road geometry can be reconstructed in a robust manner. A new monitoring model for estimating the road geometry parameters is constructed to reduce the number of the measured signals. The selection of the sensor configuration and specifications is investigated by utilizing the characteristics of standard highways. Based on the sensor configurations, it is shown that appropriate sensing region on the camera image coordinate can be determined. The proposed system is implemented on a passenger car and verified experimentally.

  • In this paper dose a laver surface check using a real time image process. This system does false retrieval of a laver at a laver production line. At first, a laver image was read in real time using a CCD camera. In this paper, we use an area scan CCD camera. Image is converted into a binary code image using a high-speed imaging process board afterwards. A laver feature is extracted by a binary code image. Surface false retrieval is finally executed using a laver feature. In this paper, we use an area feature of a laver image.

  • We developed an augmented new reality tool for vision-based hand gesture recognition in a camera-projector system. Our recognition method uses modified Fourier descriptors for the classification of static hand gestures. Hand segmentation is based on a background subtraction method, which is improved to handle background changes. Most of the recognition methods are trained and tested by the same service-person, and training phase occurs only preceding the interaction. However, there are numerous situations when several untrained users would like to use gestures for the interaction. In our new practical approach the correction of faulty detected gestures is done during the recognition itself. Our main result is the quick on-line adaptation to the gestures of a new user to achieve user-independent gesture recognition.
