Face Recognition using Non-negative Matrix Factorization and Learning Vector Quantization (비음수 행렬 분해와 학습 벡터 양자화를 이용한 얼굴 인식)

  • Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is one of the typical parts-based representation in which images are expressed as a linear combination of basis vectors that show the lcoal features or objects in the images. In this paper, we represent face images using various NMF methods and recognize their face identities based on extracted features using a learning vector quantization. We analyzed the various NMF methods by comparing extracted basis vectors. Also we confirmed the availability of NMF to the face recognition by verification of recognition rate of the various NMF methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 비음수 행렬 분해 (NMF) 기법을 이용하여 단일 채널에서 배경음 성분을 추출하는 알고리즘에 대해 서술한다. 이러한 배경음 성분 추출은 오디오 업믹싱 시스템을 고려하여 개발되었으며, 기존의 연구를 통하여 분리된 배경음 신호가 서라운드 채널 혹은 상방향 채널에 적용될 경우 청취자의 공간감을 향상시킬 수 있다는 사실이 이미 확인된 바 있다. 다만 기존의 기법은 음향 신호를 모두 축적하여 일괄적으로 처리해야 한다는 단점이 있어, 스트리밍 시스템이나 디지털 신호 프로세서 등을 이용한 시스템에서 사용될 수 없는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이를 해소하기 위하여 실시간 비음수 행렬 분해 기법을 이용한 배경음 추출 시스템을 고안하여 실험하였다. 실험 결과 실시간 배경음 추출 기법이 신호의 후반부에서는 원하는 대로 동작하나, 초중반에 기저가 과도하게 설정되는 문제점이 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이에 대한 해결이 향후 연구 과제가 될 것이다.

  • 이메일의 사용증가로 수신 메일을 효율적이면서 정확하게 분류할 필요성이 점차 증가하고 있다. 현재의 이메일 분류는 베이지안, 규칙 기반 등을 이용하여 스팸 메일을 필터링하기 위한 이원 분류가 주를 이루고 있다. 클러스터링을 이용한 다원 분류 방법은 분류의 정확도가 떨어지는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 비음수 행렬 분해(NMF, Non-negative Matrix Factrazation)를 기반으로 한 자동 분류 주제 생성 방법과 동적 분류 체계(DCH, Dynamic Category Hierachy) 방법을 결합한 새로운 이메일 분류 방법을 제안한다. 이 방법은 수신되는 이메일을 자동으로 분류하여 대량의 메일을 효율적으로 관리할 수 있으며, 분류 결과 사용자의 요구사항을 만족하지 못하면 메일을 동적으로 재분류 하여 분류 정확률을 높일 수 있다.

  • This paper proposes a new document clustering method using NMF and fuzzy relationship. The proposed method can improve the quality of document clustering because the clustered documents by using fuzzy relation values between semantic features and terms to distinguish well dissimilar documents in clusters, the selected cluster label terms by using semantic features with NMF, which is used in document clustering, can represent an inherent structure of document set better. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance than other document clustering methods.

  • The active control of a vehicle based on vehicle recognition is one of key technologies for the intelligent vehicle, and the part-based image representation is necessary to recognize vehicles with only partial shapes of vehicles especially in urban scene where occlusions frequently occur. In this paper, we implemented a part-based image representation scheme using non-negative tensor factorization(NTF) and realized a robust vehicle recognition system using the NTF feature. The result shows that the proposed method gives more intuitive part-based representation and more robust recognition in urban scene.

  • In this paper we present a method for continuous EEG classification, where we employ nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF) to determine discriminative spectral features and use the Viterbi algorithm to continuously classily multiple mental tasks. This is an extension of our previous work on the use of nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) for EEG classification. Numerical experiments with two data sets in BCI competition, confirm the useful behavior of the method for continuous EEG classification.

  • Document clustering is an important method for document analysis and is used in many different information retrieval applications. This paper proposes a new document clustering model using the clustering method based NMF(non-negative matrix factorization) and refinement of documents in cluster by using coherence of cluster. The proposed method can improve the quality of document clustering because the re-assigned documents in cluster by using coherence of cluster based similarity between documents, the semantic feature matrix and the semantic variable matrix, which is used in document clustering, can represent an inherent structure of document set more well. The experimental results demonstrate appling the proposed method to document clustering methods achieves better performance than documents clustering methods.

Voice Activity Detection Based on Non-negative Matrix Factorization (비음수 행렬 인수분해 기반의 음성검출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we apply a likelihood ratio test (LRT) to a non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) based voice activity detection (VAD) to find optimal threshold. In our approach, the NMF based VAD is expressed as Euclidean distance between noise basis vector and input basis vector which are extracted through NMF. The optimal threshold each of noise environments depend on NMF results distribution in noise region which is estimated statistical model-based VAD. According to the experimental results, the proposed approach is found to be effective for statistical model-based VAD using LRT.

  • 비음수 행렬 인수분해(Non-negative Matrix Factorization, NMF)의 신호분리 성능을 개선하기 위해 희소조건을 인가한 방법이 희소 비음수 행렬 인수분해 알고리즘(Sparse NMF, SNMF)이다. 기존의 SNMF 알고리즘은 개별 음원의 희소성을 고려하지 않고 임의로 결정한 희소 조건을 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 음원의 특성에 따른 희소성을 추정하고 이를 SNMF 학습알고리즘에 적용하는 새로운 신호분리 기법을 제안한다. 혼합 신호에서의 잡음제거 실험을 통해, 제안한 방법이 기존의 NMF와 SNMF에 비해 성능이 더 우수함을 보였다.

A study on the target detection method of the continuous-wave active sonar in reverberation based on beamspace-domain multichannel nonnegative matrix factorization (빔공간 다채널 비음수 행렬 분해에 기초한 잔향에서의 지속파 능동 소나 표적 탐지 기법에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a target detection method based on beamspace-domain multichannel nonnegative matrix factorization is studied when an echo of continuous-wave ping is received from a low-Doppler target in reverberant environment. If the receiver of the continuous-wave active sonar moves, the frequency range of the reverberation is broadened due to the Doppler effect, so the low-Doppler target echo is interfered by the reverberation in this case. The developed algorithm analyzes the multichannel spectrogram of the received signal into frequency bases, time bases, and beamformer gains using the beamspace-domain multichannel nonnnegative matrix factorization, then the algorithm estimates the frequency, time, and bearing of target echo by choosing a proper basis. To analyze the performance of the developed algorithm, simulations were performed in various signal-to-reverberation conditions. The results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the frequency, time, and bearing, but the performance was degraded in the low signal-to-reverberation condition. It is expected that modifying the selection algorithm of the target echo basis can enhance the performance according to the simulation results.
