  • Starting to occur during modern age, 'Comments on Current Events', or comments on current events, refers to the works which deliver the criticism or reputation about the issues of the time. In Hwangsong Sinmun, as new writing models conflicted with traditional narrative practices, complicated works with various metaphor and symbols were published serially. They are critical materials, which allow you to probe the way in which earlier traditional narrative changed through modern media. This article takes note of a pair of them: Biseol, Gukoenaengpyeong Unlike conventional serials, Biseol and Gukoenaengpyeong, which were 'Comments on Current Events' serials in Hwangsong Sinmun, have something in common with 'Narrative Editorials' for some reasons: interrogatory style which were frequently being used in editorials accounts for a large share of those two serials, their contents with a vein of humor also imply critical social issues, and they make separate comments additionally. In addition, we can see how the style of 'Sowha' in late Joseon Dynasty developed into short narrative through a new medium, the modern newspaper. After all, the two serials are important materials which can identify the way in which modern 'Sowha' was created and established as an epic literature, 'Comments on Current Events'.

  • Development of an objective diagnosis index for diagnosing a the beginning nature of a disease is the most one of tongue diagnosis in the oriental medicine. However, previous systems have a difficult problem in the creation of objective diagnosis index, and focused on the expert system that can diagnose automatically without an oriental doctor behavior. Therefore, computerized assistant diagnosis software for calculating an optimized diagnosis index is proposed in this paper. This software is operated by the diagnosing behavior of oriental doctor. As developed software is a semi-automatic system, manual method is used to segment a tongue body. Futhermore, numerical diagnosis indices including the color information of non-tongue coating and tongue coating, WTCI are provided to oriental doctor automatically and real-timely. Also, probability estimation value for classifying no coating, thin coating, and thick coating is presented by using the tongue coating area ratio, and EMR chart can use for convenience of diagnosis. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the our developed software, after building a various tongue image from 60 subjects, we experimented on diagnosis image with our software. As a result, the developed software showed the 95% use-effectiveness of subjects.

  • Biotypes of the brown planthopper(BPH), Nilaparvata lugens St l, population migrated from maninand China in to southern coastal regions of Korea were investigated in 1985-1987 by honeydew excretion test using Korean cultvars,, 'Milyang 23'(no resistant gene), 'Cheongcheo-ngboy'(bph 1 gene), 'Milyang 63'(bph 2 gene) and 'Gayabyeo'(bph 1 and bph 2 gene). There was a correlation between the amount of honeydew excreted and the ability of each biotype to infest resistant cultivars: 'Milyang 23' with no resistant gene was highiy susceptible to bioty-pe-1, 2 and 3 ; 'cheongcheongbyeo' with resistant bph 1 was susceptible to biotype-2: and 'Milyang 63' with resistant bph 2 gene was highiy resistant to biotype-1, 2 and 3. Percent biotype dis-tribution of the female BPH collected in the southern coastal regions of Korea showed that in 1985, 1986 and 1987, the BPH biotype-1 was predominant accounting for 64.7%, 61.2% and 57.9%, respectivley, whereas bitype-2 was 22.0%, 21.9% and 29.7%, and biotype-3 was 13.3%, 17.0% and 12.6%, repestively.
