Round robin based proportional share scheduling(RRPS) defines weight which determines share for each task and allocates CPU resource to each task in proportional to its respective weight. RRPS uses fairness as the measure of performance and aims at high fairness of scheduling. However, researches for scheduling fairness problem due to synchronization among tasks have been rarely investigated. In this paper, we discuss that scheduling delay due to synchronization may result high unfairness in RRPS. We explain such a situation as weight inversion. We then propose weight inheritance protocol(WIP), a synchronization mechanism, that prevents weight inversion. We also show that WIP can reduce unfairness using fairness analysis and simulation.
In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling algorithm that assigns different number of HS-PDSCH(High Speed Primary Downlink Shared Channel) to the service user according to the received signal to interference ratio of CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) and to the traffic characteristics. Assigned channel number is determined by the signal to interference ratio level from CPICH. The highest signal to interference ratio user gets the number of channels based on the signal to interference ratio table and the remained channels are assigned to the other level users. Therefore the proposed scheme can provide the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than existing scheduling algorithm. Simulation results show that our algorithm can provide the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than MAX C/I algorithm and can also support the higher service throughput than proportional fairness scheme.

In this paper, a fairness scheme is proposed that assigns different number of HS-PDSCH to the service user according to the received SIR of CPICH. Assigned channel number is determined by the SIR level. The highest SIR user gets the number of channels based on the SIR table and the remained channels are assigned to the other SIR users. This scheme can serve the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than MAX CIR packet scheduling algorithm. This scheme can also serve the higher service throughput than Proportional Fairness scheme.

In this paper, we present the FB(Fair Buffering) mechanism for the efficient support of TCP traffic over UBR connections in the subnet ATM model. We show that both throughput and fairness may be improved with the FB mechanism. The FB mechanism is founded on the observation that the performance of TCP over UBR connections is optimal when the buffer space is allocated in proportion to the connection's bandwidth-delay product. We compare through simulation the performance of the existing drop-tail, EB(Equal Buffering) and the proposed FB buffer management schemes, with and without RR(Roung-Robin) scheduling, and demonstrate that the proposed FB mechanism is most effective when used in conjunction with the RR scheduling scheme.

This paper proposes and analyzes a new media access control (MAC) scheduling algorithm, “Interleaved Polling with Deficit Round Robin (IPDRR)” that supports weighted fairness among ONUs in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (PON). The purpose of the proposed IPDRR algerian is not only to eliminate the unused bandwidth of upstream ONU traffic, but also to provide weighted fair sharing of upstream bandwidth among ONUs in Ethernet PON systems. Simulation results show that the IPDRR improves the utilization of upstream channel by removing the unused bandwidth and provides weighted fairness among ONUs, although the IPACT scheduling is unfair according to traffic characteristics.

In wireless networks there are various errors, caused by multi-path fading and interference between devices which lower the network Performance. Especially, performance of IEEE 802.IS.3 High-Rate WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) which is operated in ISM unlicensed frequency band is easily affected by channel errors. In this paper, we propose a scheduling algorithm which takes channel errors into consideration in scheduling asynchronous data traffic. The proposed scheduling algorithm can allocate CTA(Channel Time Allocation) proportionally in accordance with the requested channel time of each device. It also prevents waste of channel time by allocating CTA of the channel-error devices to other channel-error free devices. After recovering from the channel error, the devices are compensated as much as they conceded during channel error status. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling algorithm is superior to the existing SRPT(Shortest Remain Processing Time) and RR(Round Robin) in throughput and fairness aspects.

The downlink scheduling algorithm has a great impact on the performance of mobile telecommunication system. In proportional fairness (PF) scheduling algorithm, the resource is allocated proportionally to the quality of wireless channel. Thus, PF has difficulty in servicing the users having more downlink traffic. One can allocate the resource proportionally to the accumulated queue length. However, this leads to system throughput degradation since the users having low channel quality get more and more resource allocated due to accumulation property of queue. In this paper, we propose a new downlink scheduling algorithm, which extends PF algorithm by incorporating downlink traffic arrival rate. The proposed algorithm can effectively cope with users having more downlink traffic, and maintain high system throughput by eliminating accumulation effect in the algorithm. With computer simulations, it is verified that the proposed algorithm performs better than existing algorithms.
The orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems are well suited to multi-rate multicast transmission, as they allow flexible resource allocation across both frequency and time, and provide adaptive modulation and coding schemes. Unlike layered video coding, the multiple description coding (MDC) enables flexible decomposition of the raw video stream into two or more substreams. The quality of the video stream is expected to be roughly proportional to data rate sustained by the receiver. This paper describes a mathematical model of resource allocation and throughput in the multi-rate video multicast for the OFDMA wireless and mobile networks. The impact on mean opinion score (MOS), as a measurement of user-perceived quality (by employing a variety of scheduling disciplines) is discussed in terms of utility maximization and proportional fairness. We propose a pruning algorithm to ensure a minimum video quality even for a subset of users at the resource limitation, and show the optimal number of substreams and their rates can sustain.
