  • This paper proposes a new pipelined dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for XG-PON (10-Gbps-capable passive optical network) passive optical networks) system. The pipelined algorithm is used when a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm cannot finished in an unit time. In the proposed mechanism, the request is immediately transferred to each pipeline block to improve performance.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of marshalling work using ATC(automated transfer crane) for ACT(automated container terminal). It is important fact to assignment of containers, because the character of ACT which block layout is vertical for berth and there are four other works which are inbound, oubound, loading and unloading in one block. And then there is need which assignment of containers with remarshaling work using ATCs in one block. Therefore, we analyze the efficiency of remarshaling work using simulation and suggest the assignment methodology of containers in yard

  • In this paper, we propose the transmission scheme for the space-time block coded spatial multiplexing systems that have adaptive rate and power allocation per each transmit antenna through the use of feedback information related to channel state. Simulation results show that the adaptive power and rate transmission scheme gain more than 4.5 dB over conventional equal-power and rate transmission scheme.

  • A differential index assignment scheme is proposed for the image encoding system in which a variable-length tree-structured vector quantizer is adopted. Each source vector is quantized into a terminal node of VLTSVQ and each terminal node is represented as a unique binary vector. The proposed index assignment scheme utilizes the correlation between interblocks of the image to increase the compression ratio with the image quality maintained. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a much higher compression ratio than the conventional one does and that the amount of the bit rate reduction of the proposed scheme becomes large as the correlation of the image becomes large. The proposed encoding scheme can be effectively used to encode R images whose pixel values we, in general, highly correlated with those of the neighbor pixels.

  • This paper presents the routing and wavelength and timeslot assignment problems for a circuit-switched time division multiplexed (TDM) wavelength-routed networks. In this paper, we propose an efficient distributed control protocol for establishing lightpath dynamically. The protocol uses backward reservation to reduce the chance of blocking. We use aggressive reservation method with usable multiple channels and select only one in multiple channel. We show through simulation that the proposed protocol improves the success rate in TDM-based lightpath establishment and the proposed aggressive reservation method improve blocking probability with appropriate reservation channel count.

  • Error control and concealment in video communication is becoming increasingly important because transmission errors can cause single or multiple loss of macroblocks in video delivery over unreliable channels such as wireless networks and the internet. This paper describes a temporal error concealment by postprocessing. Lost image blocks are overlapped block motion compensated (OBMC) using median of motion vectors from adjacent blocks at the decoder. The results show a significant improvement over zero motion error concealment and other temporal concealment methods such as Motion Vector Rational Interpolation or Side Match Criterion OBMC by 1.4 to 3.5㏈ gain in PSNR. We present experimental results showing improvements in PSNR and computational complexity.

  • This paper considers effective timetable modules in order to easily satisfy various user requirements during scheduling timetables in universities. Noticing that the methods for allocating time blocks change according to the timetable modules, we suggest six models of symmetric timetable modules composed of 4 blocks, and show that our models have more benefits without any loss from the viewpoint of customers, if the suppliers consider the decreasing upper bound of ratio utilizing space resources. By adapting a concept of potentially determined blocks and suggesting their management strategies, finally, we accomplish a method for supporting flexibility and controllability when the universities timetables are scheduled.

  • The state assignment for a finite state machine greatly affects the delay, area, and testabilities of the sequential circuits. In order to minimize the dependencies among groups of state variables, therefore possibly to reduce the length and number of feedback cycles, a new state assignment technique based on m-block partition is introduced in this paper. After the completion of proposed state assignment and logic synthesis, partial scan design is performed to choose minimal number of scan flip-flops. Experiment shows drastic improvement in testabilities while preserving low area and delay overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose a real time post-processing visual enhancement technique to reduce the blocking artifacts in block based DCT decoded image for mobile devices that have allocation of the restricted resource. In order to reduce the blocking artifacts effectively even while preserving the image edge to the utmost, the proposed algorithm uses the deblocking filtering or the directional filtering according to the edge detection of the each pixel. After it is discriminated that the pixel to apply the deblocking filtering belongs again to the monotonous area, the weighted average filter with the adaptive mask is applied for the pixel to remove the blocking artifacts. On the other hand, a new directional filter is utilized to get rid of staircase noise and preserve the original edge component. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produces better results than those of the conventional algorithms in both subjective and objective qualities.
