A Study on Applicability of Hydrofluoroethers as CFC-Alternative Cleaning Agents (CFC 대체 산업세정제로의 HFEs의 적용가능성 연구)

  • Fluoride-type cleaning agents such as 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFEA) and hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) do not destroy ozone in the stratosphere and have low global warming potential compared to hydrofluorocarbons(HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Especially, HFEs which have no flash point are paid attention as next generation type of cleaning agents for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) since they are safe in handling and have excellent penetration ability compared to hydrocarbon cleaning agents with low flash point. Here, the physical properties and cleaning abilities of fluoride-type cleaning agents such as TFEA, HFE-7100, HFE-7200, HFE-476mec, HFE-449mec-f, AE-3000 and AE-3100E and silicide-type cleaning agents such as trifluoroetoxytrimethylsilane (TFES) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) were measured and compared with those of ozone destruction substances such as CFC-113 and 1,1,1-trichloroethane. They were also compared with toxic methylene chloride (MC) and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) which are now being used as an alternative cleaning agents. As a result, TFEA and HFEs had lower cleaning ability for removal of various soils compared to chloride-type cleaning agents, but they showed excellent cleaning ability fur fluoride-type soils. TFES and HMDS also showed excellent cleaning ability for silicide-type soils.

Removal of Hydrogen Fluoride from Waterjet Plasma Wastewater by Electrocoagulation (전해응집법에 의한 불화수소 함유 워터젯 플라즈마 폐수처리)

  • Tetrafluoromethane ($CF_4$) has been used as etching and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) gases for semiconductor manufacturing processes. These gases need to be removed efficiently because of their strong absorption of infrared radiation and long atmospheric lifetimes which cause the global warming effect. Also, the wastewater including the fluorine is caused by of the ground water pollution. Long-term consumption of water containing excessive fluoride can lead to fluorosis of the teeth and bones. The wastewater including the fluorine among the by-product which is generated by using the waterjet plasma after destroying $CF_4$ by HF is generated. The system which can remove the hydrogen fluoride among the wastewater by using the electrocoagulation using this wastewater the aluminum electrode was developed. The operating condition such as initial pH, electrocoagulation time, wastewater flow rate, current density were investigated experimentally using a electrocoagulation. Through the parametric studies, the highest hydrogen fluoride destruction of 85% was achieved at 3.5 initial pH, 10 min electrocoagulation time, 10 mL/min wastewater flow rate and $159A/m^2$ current density.

  • Hydrofluoric acid (HF), a typical inorganic acid, has been used in the industry for its various usage and classified as the toxic compound, because it can cause the pneumonia and pulmonary edema when it was exposed to respiratory organs. The official environmental analytical method for fluorine and its compound in waste has not been developed. For this reason, we have faced some problem to treat the contaminated wastes by the HF leakage from industrial process. In this study, prepared for analytical method for combustible waste (crop, trees, etc.) generated from HF leaking accident and to be applied as the official analytical method for fluorine contaminated waste when the fluorine and its compound will be regulated as a hazardous material by the waste management law later.

An analysis of the porous silicon microstructure by using fractal dimension (쪽거리 차원을 통한 다공질규소의 미세구조 분석)

  • Porous silicon layers were fabricated with various conditions of HF concentration and current density. And their masses were measured. From these data, the porosity and fractal dimension were estimated and analyzed. We found that the porosity was proportional to the current density when the anodic reaction time was fixed and the constant values of fractal dimension could be estimated from a series of data with fixed HF concentration. The values of fractal dimension were decreased with increasing HF concentration. The obtained porosity and fractal dimension were compared with the 2-dimensional computer simulation based on diffusion limited deposition model. According to the simulation, the porosity was proportional to the diffusion length and the fractal dimension was inversely proportional to the diffusion length. Since, the diffusion length is proportional to current density and inversely proportional to base concentration, our experimental data qualitatively agreed with the results from the simulation. The porosity obtained by experiments, however, was not consistent with the results by simulation.

Influence of Reaction Condition on CF4 Synthesis by Fluorination of CF2Cl2 and CCl4 (이염화이불화메탄과 사염화메탄의 불화에 의한 사불화메탄의 합성에서 반응조건의 영향)

  • For the fluorination of $CF_2Cl_2$, the yield of $CF_4$ was found to be increased with the contact time and the reaction temperature. When the mole ratio of HF/$CF_2Cl_2$ is 3 or above, the yield of $CF_4$ was attained to 100% at $370^{\circ}C$ and contact time of 3 seconds. In the case of the fluorination of $CCl_4$ with HF, the yield of $CF_4$ was obtained above 90% at the reaction temperature of $500^{\circ}C$, the contact time of 3 seconds, and the mole ratio of HF/$CCl_4$ of 5.

  • The studies were carried out to examine the effect of soil improvement agents, such as lime, wollastonite and phosphate, in reducing the damage caused by hydrogen fluoride gas to the vegetative growth of rice. The yield loss, damage rate of the plant leaves, the fluoride and silicate concentrations of the plants were measured. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Of various levels of added lime and wollastonite, the best were found to be neutralized lime plus lime 150kg/10a, and wollastonite 150kg/10a. 2. Added fluoride increased the fluoride content of the plant and the damage rate of the plant leaves, and the yield was greatly decreased. 3. The silicate concentration at harvesting period was also increased by high amounts of fluoride in the plant during vegetative growth. 4. Increasing the amount of added lime increased the watersoluble silicate concentration in the soil. The silicate content of the plant showed the same tendency.

Numerical Study of DF Chemical Laser Performance with Variations of D2 Injection Angles (중수소 분사각에 따른 불화중수소 화학레이저의 성능향상에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • In the chemical laser system with a radial expansion nozzle array, the laser beam generation is achieved by mixing F atom from supersonic nozzle and $D_{2}$ molecule from holes of round-bended supply line. Based on that the fuel injection angle with main stream has a great influence of performance on supersonic combustor, the effects of $D_{2}$ injection angles with the main F flow on mixing enhancement are numerically investigated. The results are discussed by comparison with three cases of $D_{2}$ injection angles; $10^{o}$, $20^{o}$ and $40^{o}$ with the main flow direction. Major results reveal that as the $D_{2}$ injection angle increases, the maximum small signal gains and the static pressure in the laser cavity become higher. Consequently, the $D_{2}$ injection angle between $20^{o}$ and $40^{o}$ is recommended as an optimized geometric parameter in consideration of both of high gains and low cavity pressure.

  • A numerical simulation is presented for investigating the effects of pressure ratio of $D_2$ injector to supersonic nozzle on the Population inversion in the DF chemical laser cavity, while a latins concurrently takes place. In this study, these phenomena are investigated by means of analyzing the distributions of the DF excited molecules, while simultaneously estimating the maximum small signal gains and power in the DF chemical laser cavity. Major results reveal that the higher $D_2$ injection pressure provides a favorable condition for $DF^{(1)}$-$DF^{(0)}$ transition to generate the higher power laser beam.

  • Modified mordenites by HF treatement, which have different $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio, and those mixed with $\gamma$-alumina are prepared and used for catalytic cracking of triphenylmethane(TPM) in micro-activity tester(MAT). Dealumination of mordenites decreased the acid content but developed secondary mesopores. The conversion and the selectivity of benzene over modified mordenites with the mesopores were increased. However, for the further dealuminated mordenites, they decreased due to the destruction of pore structure and low acid amount. Accordingly, the maximum cracking activity and the maximum selectivity of benzene were obtained about 17 $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio of modified mordenites. The modified mordenites mixed with alumina enhanced the cracking activity of TPM compared with the pure mordenites. It can be explained that TPM is cracked at active sites with in large pores of alumina firstly and further cracked into small molecules in zeolite pores as step mechanism of catalytic cracking.

1,1-Difluoroethane Synthesis from Acetylene over Fluorinated γ-Al2O3 (불화된 γ-Al2O3상에서 아세틸렌으로부터 1,1-difluoroethane의 합성)

  • The synthesis of 1,1-difluoroethane from acetylene as a function of HF/acetylene ratio, contact time and reaction temperature was studied on a fluorinated ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. The fluorination of ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was treated with pure HF gas at high temperature. The crystallinity, the porosity, and the acid properties of the prepared samples were examined using XRD, the nitrogen adsorption, pyridine-IR and ammonia-TPD respectively. The activity was enhanced by further fluorination of alumina. The fraction of 1,1-difluoroethane was obtained above 90% at reaction temperature of about $200^{\circ}C$. The ratio of 1,1-difluoroethane to vinylfluoride over fluorinated ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst was increased with the mole ratio of HF/acetylene and contact time, and was found to be the highest ratio at reaction temperature of $200^{\circ}C$.
