  • For the large scale reinforced concrete cooling tower shells, the shape imperfection can be introduced due not only to mistakes in the process of construction but also to the long term behavior of concrete. The shape imperfection evokes the additional responses such as displacements and stresses in addition to the design values. In this study, the statistical behavior of the RC cooling tower shell due to the shape imperfection is investigated using the Monte Carlo simulation. The radius of cooling tower and the shell thickness are adopted as the parameters which cause the shape imperfection. The shape imperfection is modeled as a stochastic field rather than the local one of axisymmetric or bulge type of imperfection. The randomness in the radius is shown to be more affecting the structural responses than the randomness in the shell thickness. In addition to the geometrical randomness, the effect of randomness in the modulus of elasticity on the structural response is also investigated and compared with that of the geometrical ones.

  • In this paper, the capacity for the reverse link of the imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is analyzed considering imperfect sectorization in shadowing environment. Unlike the theoretical assumption, the power control of the DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is not perfect. Therefore, we consider various parameters such as the imperfect power control, the imperfect sectorization, the processing gain and the number of microcell interferers, which cause the capacity variation of the DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system. It is shown that the capacity of DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is decreased according to the increase of the deviation of the imperfect power control, the overlapped angle, the power ratio between macrocell and microcell and to the decrease of processing gain, the number of microcell interfering users. Also, it is observed that the hierarchical cellular system can increase the user capacity from 1.54 to 3.89 times compared to the homogeneous macro-cellular system.

  • Generally, in a steel-concrete composite gilder, the shear connector which was constructed between concrete deck and steel girder should have enough stiffness to behave as one body, because the conformity between plate and concrete deck is influences by the stiffness and spacing of the shear connectors. If the stiffness of shear connectors are insufficient, slip would happen at the contact surface. Partial interaction is the case that takes account of slips. In this paper, an easy method is presented to evaluate the stiffness or spacing of the shear connector according to the degree of imperfection without difficult calculations for a composite gilder with partial interaction. Also, the horizontal shearing force applied to the shear connector and the longitudinal axial force, which is occurs at contact surface between concrete deck and steel girder, have been presented in a simple influence line that is various to the parameters of sectional properties, degree of imperfection and applied load points. Furthermore, through the case study, it determined the relationships between the degree of imperfection and the follows 1) spring constants 2) axial force and horizontal shearing force 3) stress and neutral axis by using the partial differential equation based on Newmark's Partial Interaction Theory.

  • Most models assume the complete debugging environments by requiring a complete software correction in quantitative evaluation of software reliability. But, in many case, new faults are involved in debugging works, for complete software correction is impossible. In this paper, software growth model is proposed about incomplete debugging environments by considering the possibility of new faults involvements, and software faults occurrence status are also mentioned about NHPP by considering software faults under software operation environments and native faults owing to the randomly involved faults in operation before test. While, effective quantitative measurements are derived in software reliability evaluation, applied results are suggested by using actual data, and fitnesswith existing models are also compared and analyzed.

  • This paper discusses a method for getting a basis set of estimable functions of less than full rank linear model. Since model parameters are not estimable estimable functions should be identified for making inferences proper about them. So, it suggests a method of using full rank factorization of model matrix to find estimable functions in easy way. Although they might be obtained in many different ways of using model matrix, the suggested full rank factorization technique could be one of much easier methods. It also discusses how to use projection matrix to identify estimable functions.

  • An important problem in reliability analysis for repairable systems is to model the maintenance effect. The most of researches have assumed two extreme cases; one is perfect maintenance and the other is minimal maintenance. However, many of maintenances performed by domestic subway operators are imperfect maintenances which have the effect between both of two extreme cases. This article deals with the problem determining the imperfect preventive maintenance intervals based on failure data in units of the PDS(passenger door system) in Metro EMU. This paper deals with a case study on determining imperfect maintenance interval by using the level of maintenance effect through reliability analysis of PDS.

  • An important issue for software developers is to determine when to stop testing the software system and release it to users. Generally the release time is specified by the number of detected faults or the testing time needed to meet the reliability requirement. Software reliability directly depends on the number of remaining or corrected faults. All the detected faults are not always corrected under imperfect debugging environment. We therefore need a new approach to software release policy for imperfect debugging. This paper suggests a software release policy, which guarantees that the reliability requirement has been achieved. The suggested policy is then implemented and illustrated for specific SRGMs.

  • We study externality costs of capital investment under limited commitment. We solve for the constrained efficient allocation with a limited commitment environment and find positive externality costs of capital investment provided that full-risk-sharing is not feasible. In a decentralized version of limited commitment environment, a one unit increase of capital investment by an agent increases all individuals' autarky values in the economy and generates externality costs in the economy. This externality cost provides a rationale for positive capital taxation even in the absence of government expenditure. In order to internalize this costs, the government use a positive rate of linear capital tax in the decentralized economy.
