Comparison of Degradation due to Fenton Reaction between Reinforced and Non-reinforced Membranes Used in PEMFC (PEMFC에 사용되는 강화막과 비강화막의 Fenton 반응에 의한 열화 비교)

  • In order to improve the durability of a proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), it is essential to improve the durability of the polymer membrane. In order to improve the durability of the membrane, an e-PTFE support and a radical scavenger are added. In this study, the chemical durability of the reinforced membrane with ePTFE support and the non-reinforced membrane was compared by Fenton reaction. In the Fenton experiment of the polymer membrane without the addition of a radical scavenger, the absorption rate of hydrogen peroxide solution and iron ions through the cross section of the specimen cut into small pieces was higher in the reinforced membrane, so that the fluorine outflow concentration was higher. According to the type and amount of radical scavenger added, the fluorine outflow concentration of the reinforced membrane has a large difference of more than 3 times, indicating that the effect of the radical scavenger was stronger than that of the support.

  • The control of dissolved aluminum concentration in the hot dip zinc galvanizing bath is greatly important in producing galvannealed steel sheets. The purpose of present study is to provide basic data for measurement of the aluminum concentration in site in hot dip zinc bath at the temperature of $460^{\circ}C\~500^{\circ}C$ using $CaF_2$ solid electrolyte sensor with three kinds of reference electrode. Good workability and stability of the sensor were confirmed with the $Bi+BiF_3$ reference electrode from the emf measurement. In order to measure the aluminum concentration in Zn-Al bath, the galvanic cell of fluorine ion was constructed with $CaF_2$ solid electrolyte as follows; $$(-)W|Zn-Al,\;AlF_3|CaF_2|Bi,BiF_3|W(+)$$. The emf measurement was made at the temperature of $460\pm10^{\circ}C$ in the Zn-Al bath. The following correlationship between aluminum concentration and emf was obtained by the least square regression analysis; $$E/mV=56.795log[\%Al]+1881.7\;R=0.9704$$,$$0.026wt\%{\leq}[\%Al]{\leq}0.984wt\%$$

  • To investigate the performance of the composite carbon electrodes which the ion exchange polymers were directly casted onto porous carbon electrode surfaces, the adsorption/desorption experiments were carried out by varying the feed concentration, feed flow rate, and desorption voltages for the NaCl solution. When the feed concentration was 100 mg/L, the increase of the adsorption time led to the increase of the salt removal due to the increase of the residence time inside the cell while the increase of the feed flow rate from 15 mL/min to 23 mL/min gave the decrease of the salt removal efficiency, 12% because of the short residence time. When the feed concentration was 200 mg/L, the salt removal was shown 10~15% low because of the incomplete desorption within the desorption intervals.

A Microscope Study of Fluoride Effects on the Rat Incisor Enamel Formation (흰쥐 절치의 법랑질 형성에 미치는 불소의 효과에 관한 현미경적 연구)

  • The aim of the present study was to examine in detail, both at light and electron microscopical levels, the morphological variations in ameloblast of the fetal rat incisor enamel organ. Rats were started on distilled water at the beginning of pregnancy. The pups were sacrificed 11 days after delivery and animals were perfused intravascularly with glutaraldehyde and the incisors were removed. To examine on the ultrastructure of the ameloblast, the study employed primary light microscopy but electron microscopy was used to clarify some of the light microscopic finding. Longitudinal sections through the incisors of the rat show a continuous layer of ameloblasts on the labial surface of the tooth. This layer contains the entire sequence of developmental stages in enamel production. The ameloblast layer was divided into three main zones: 1) Presecretory zone, region of ameloblasts facing pulp. 2) Secretory zone, region of inner and outer enamel secretion. 3) Maturation zone, region of reduced ameloblasts. In particularly, the present study has shown that two distinctively different types of ameloblasts appear in the enamel organ during enamel maturation in the rat incisor. These two types have been designated ruffle-ended ameloblasts (rAB) and smooth-ended ameloblasts (sAB). The fluoride produces marked alteration in the fine structure of ameloblast from teeth of young rats, such as large confluent distensions of the endoplasmic reticulum and swelling of isolated mitochondria. This experimental data suggested that exposure prolonged of animal to high level of fluoride appears to induce a few dramatic changes in the normal appositional growth and initial mineralization of enamel created during amelogenesis.

  • This study was carried cut to evaluate the water quality of spring waters in Pusan area(see Fig. 1). In this experiment, twenty-five water samples were collected from 5 stations from December 1983 to August 1984. Range and mean values of constituents of the samples are as follows: pH $5.80{\sim}7.25$, 6.60; water temperature $6.0{\sim}23.0^{\circ}C,\;12.9^{\circ}C$; total residue $33.0{\sim}325mg/l$, 121.2mg/l; alkalinity $4.75{\sim}51.6mg/l$, 24.1mg/l; hardness $9.47{\sim}85.0mg/l$, 30.3mg/l; electrical conductivity $0.495{\sim}2.750{\times}^2{mu}{\mho}/cm,\;1.239{\times}10^2{\mu}{\mho}/cm$;turbidity $0.54{\sim}7.80$NTU, 2.04NTU; $KMnO_4$ consumed $0.51{\sim}8.47mg/l$, 1.96mg/l; chloride ion $4.91{\sim}36.0mg/l$, 12.55mg/l; fluoride ion ND-0.30ppm, 0.08ppm; nitrate-nitrogen ND-8.94mg/l, 1.94m:g/l; nitrite-nirogen ND-0.10mg/l, 0.03mg/l; ammonia-nitrogen ND-0.16mg/l, 0.03mg/l: phosphate-phosphorus ND-0.09mg/l, 0.03mg/l; silicate-silicious $0.42{\sim}22.7ng/l$, 7.96mg/l; copper ND-10.5ppb, 2.46ppb; lead ND-22.7ppb, 3.54ppb; zinc ND-103ppb, 21.33ppb; iron $20.3{\sim}2,800ppb$, 801.72ppb, respectively. Arsenic, cyan, cadmium, manganese, mercury, chrome and phenol were not detected. Total residue, electrical conductivity, turbidity and chloride ion of station 1 (Milrakdong) were higher than others as 178.1mg/l, $2.127{\times}10^2{\mu}{\mho}/cm$, 3.16NTU and 16.32mg/l. The concentration of silicious had a great influence on precipitation. The concentration of fluoride ion of spring waters was lower as 0.08ppm than the criterion for drinking water as 1ppm, while iron was exceed 2.7 times as 801.72ppb.

  • 1999년 Zwilling 등은 타이타늄과 타이타늄 합금위에 불산을 포함하는 산성 전해질에서 양극산화 방법에 의해 $TiO_2$ 나노튜브를 형성시켰다. 그러나 HF의 강한 용해성으로 인해 튜브의 길이를 500 nm이상 성장 시킬 수 없다는 문제점을 가지고 있었고 그 후에 HF대신에 전해질에 $NH_{4}F$를 혼합하여 pH를 조절하는 방법으로 $TiO_2$가 용해되는 속도를 감소시켜 약 $2{\sim}4$배 더 크게 성장 시킬 수 있다고 보고한 바 있지만 수 ${\mu}m$ 이상의 길이로는 성장 시킬 수 없다는 한계를 가지고 있었다. 최근에는 불소이온을 포함하는 점액질의 유기전해질에서 높은 종횡비, 40-60 nm의 작은 기공직경과 매끄러운 튜브벽을 가지는 수 um이상의 나노튜브를 성장 시키는 보고가 있으나 $TiO_2$ 나노튜브의 제조에 영향을 미치는 파라메타에 대한 연구가 아직 많지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 전해질의 구성, 전압, 양극산화 시 교반의 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 불산과 에틸렌글리콜 전해질에서 형성된 $TiO_2$ 나노튜브의 비 표면적의 차이를 조사했고 튜브의 길이와 기공크기도 양극산화 시 인가전압과 전해질 구성에 따라 다른 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 포어 바닥에서 국부적인 산성화를 유발하는 타이타늄의 가수분해와 $TiO_2$의 용해는 산화피막층의 용해작용을 증가시키는 수소이온의 농도를 증가시고 그에 따라 인가접압이 증가함에 따라 전해질 내의 이온수송을 활발하게 하기 위한 구동력이 증가해 전류밀도가 높아지는 것으로 확인되었단. 또한 양극산화 동안 전해질을 교반 한 경우 그런지 않은 경우에 비해 전해질 내의 유속(mass flow)를 증가시켜 더 긴 나노튜브를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Humidity control of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) is very important control condition during driving. In terms of water management, low humidification conditions are advantageous, and high humidification is advantageous in terms of drainage utilization and energy efficiency. In this study, the characteristics of outlet water in low humidification and high humidification process were studied in terms of utilization of discharged water. Since the impurities in the effluent are generated during the degradation of the membrane and the electrode assembly(MEA), degradation of the MEA under low humidification and high humidification conditions was also studied. The rate of radical generation was high at low humidification condition of the anode RH 0%, which showed that it was the main cause of the degradation of the polymer membrane. Analysis of effluent showed low concentration of fluoride ion concentration of about 20 ppb at high humidification (both electrodes RH 100%) and 0.6 V, which was enough to be used as the feed water for electrolysis. Very low concentration of platinum below 0.2 ppb was detected in the condensate discharged from the high humidification condition.

  • Recent data from Environmental department show that some out of 2,000 places surveyed are contaminated by nitrate, ammonia, fluoride, chloride and so forth in excess of the environmental standard-including purification plants, water taps, small water supply systems. In this study, some items which exceed drinking water standard were chosen and their concentrations were made varying from around standard level to around detected maximum concentration. After they permeated through the membrane module sold in the domestic market and made for household water-purifier, the most suitable membranes were selected according to individual water quality of various regions. In addition, the bacterial growth after storage for various days and under various temperatures was examined for the purpose of the effect of the time and temperature on bacterial growth.

So basic SNMS functions were confirmed through matrix element composition rate a analysis using Si02 layer etc. and adaptability to trace element c concentration analysis was tried. For that purpose we compared SIMS depth profile data for Boron which presented s strong matrix effect on account of Fluorin existence after BF2 ion implantation on silicon substrate with SNMS data. d dynamic range were investigated. A After these experements we concluded that CsX+ SNMS reduced matrix effect and we could apply it to profile impurity elements.
