  • Recent studies on concrete floating structure development focused on connection system of concrete modules. Precast concrete modules are designed to be attached by prestressing in the water, exposing the structure to the loads from water and making the construction difficult. Therefore, a development of bond material became a key issue in successful connection of floating concrete modules. In this study, micro-silica mixed aqua epoxy (MSAE) is developed for the task. Existing primer aqua epoxy, originally used as a bond material for the retrofit of concrete structures using fiber reinforced polymers, is evaluated to find the optimum micro-silica added mix proportion. Micro-silica of 0~4 volume % was mixed in standard mixture of aqua epoxy. Then, the material property tests were performed to study the effect of micro-silica in aqua epoxy by controlling the epoxy silane proportion by 0, ${\pm}5$, ${\pm}10%$. The optimum mix design of MSAE was derived based on the test results. The MSAE was used to connect concrete module specimens with the epoxy thickness variation of 5, 10, and 20mm. Then, 3-point loading test was performed to verify the bond capacity of MSAE. The results show that MSAE improves the bond capacity of concrete module.

  • This paper investigates the natural modes of moduled floating structure with module unit connector. As an example structure, a floating parking place($120m{\times}60m$) is considered. In the evaluation of natural modes, numerical equations are formulated by FEM(Finite Element Method) and the natural modes are solved by the subspace iteration method. By comparing results for various stiffness of module unit connector, the effect of stiffness of unit connector is examined.

  • This paper investigates the applicability of modularized floating structure. A floating parking place is considered as an example of moularized structure. It is assumed that the example structure is composed of reinforced concrete box modules and steel connectors. By analyzing stresses of the structure under static and wave loads, the optimal stiffness of the module is determined In the numerical calculation, the direct method is used Economical effectiveness of the modularized structure is also evaluated by analyzing cost for materials, manufacture and installation.

  • The behavior of floating structures constructed with precast concrete modules is dependent of the behavior of joints between the concrete modules. To accurately predict the floating structure response under the ultimate loading, knowledge of joint behavior is essential. This study aims to investigate the structural behavior of concrete module joints under various configuration of joint and confining stress levels. The shear behavior, shear capacity and crack patterns of shear keys in concrete module have been studied. Test results indicated that the shear capacity of joints increased as shear key inclination increased. In addition, shear capacity of concrete module joint increased with the increase of confining stress levels. The test results were compared with the AASHTO design recommendations. The AASHTO design recommendations underestimated the shear strength of test specimens.

  • This study explores the structural behavior of module joints in floating concrete structures subjected to shear. Crack patterns, shear behavior and shear capacity of shear keys in joints of concrete module were investigated. Test parameters included shear key shape, or inclination of shear keys, confining stress levels and compressive strength of concrete. Test results showed that shear strength of joints increased as shear key inclination increased. Test results also showed that shear strength of concrete module joints increased with the increase of confining stress levels. The equation for predicting shear strength of joints was suggested, which was based on the test results. Shear strength prediction by using the equation suggested in this study showed good agreement with test results.
