  • A method for performing Boolean resubstitution is proposed. This method is efficiently implemented using division matrix. It begins by creating an algebraic division matrix from given two logic expressions. By introducing Boolean properties and adding literals into the algebraic division matrix, we make the Boolean division matrix. Using this extended division matrix, Boolean substituted expressions are found. Experimental results show the improvements in the literal counts over well-known logic synthesis tools for some benchmark circuits.

  • A factorization is a very important part of multi-level logic synthesis. The number of literals in a factored form is an estimate of the complexity of a logic function, and can be translated directly into the number of transistors required for implementation. Factored forms are described as either algebraic or Boolean, according to the trade-off between run-time and optimization. A Boolean factored form contains fewer number of literals than an algebraic factored form. In this paper, we present a new method for a Boolean factorization. The key idea is to identify two-cube nonkernel Boolean pairs from given expression. Experimental results on various benchmark circuits show the improvements in literal counts over previous other factorization methods.

  • A factored form is a sum of products of sums of products, ..., of arbitrary depth. Factoring is the process of deriving a parenthesized form with the smallest number of literals from a two-level form of a logic expression. The factored form is not unique and described as either algebraic or Boolean. A Boolean factored form contains fewer number of literals than an algebraic factored form. In this paper, we present a new method for a Boolean factorization. The key idea is to identify two-cube Boolean subexpressions from given two-level logic expression and to extract divisor/quotient pairs. Then, we derive extended divisor/quotient pairs, where their quotients are not cube-free, from the generated divisor/quotients pairs. We generate quotient/quotient pairs from divisor/quotient pairs and extended divisor/quotient pairs. Using the pairs, we make a matrix to generate Boolean factored form based on a technique of rectangle covering.

  • Most chronic diseases are complex diseases which are caused by interactions of several genes. Studies on finding SNPs and gene-gene interactions involved in the development of complex diseases can contribute to prevention and treatment of the diseases. Previous studies mostly concentrate on finding only the set of SNPs involved. In this study we suggest a way to see how these SNPs interact using boolean expressions. The proposed method consists of two stages. In the first stage we find the set of SNPs involved in the development of diseases using mutual information based on entropy. In the second stage we find the highest accuracy boolean expression that consists of the SNP set obtained in the first stage. We experimented with clinical data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. We also compared the differences between our method and the previous results on the SNP associations studies.

  • Boolean retrieval systems have been most widely used in the area of information retrieval due to easy implementation and efficient retrieval. Conventional Boolean retrieval systems. however, cannot rank retrieved documents in decreasing order of query-document similarities because they cannot compute similarity coefficients between queries and documents. Extended Boolean models such as fuzzy set. Waller-Kraft, Paice, P-Norm and Infinite-One have been developed to provide the document ranking facility. In extended Boolean models, the formulas evaluating Boolean operators AND and OR are an important component to affect the quality of document ranking. In this paper we present mathematical properties of the formulas, and analyse their effect on retrieval effectiveness. Our analyses show that P-Norm is the most suitable for achieving high retrieval effectiveness.

  • In this paper, the PLD design tool which realizes a digital circuit as PLD, by using EDIF netlist of the digital circuit designed at OrCAD have been developed. This paper is proposed the following algorithms: JIE(Joined Information Extractor) which extracts the connecting information between both cells in order to realize the digital circuit as PLD using the EDIF netlist, FND(Feedback Node Detector) which look into whether feedback exists or not, BEG(Boolean Equation Generator) which generates a boolean equation, and so on. Also, this paper is developed auto-select function which selects the PLD element with consideration of number of I/O variables of the minimized boolean equation, and algorithm generation JEDEC file of GAL6001 and GAL6002, having a forms of EPLD which is bigger than PLD.

  • In this paper, we have developed a PLD Designer which is a design tool for digital circuits design using PLD device. PLD designer consists of a state graphic editor to extract boolean equations from state table within 20 states of FSM and a pin map editor to assign pin map for PLD device(PAL16R4, PAL22V10, GAL16V8, etc), which is suitable for extracted boolean equations. Also pin map editor generates a necessary JEDEC file to implement PLD device by using fuse map and checksum algorithm. To verify extracted boolean equation, we have developed simulation test vector generation algorithm. The results of JEDEC files generated by PLD designer is same with the results of JEDEC files generated by PALASM.

  • In this paper, we propose four optimizing methods for effectively processing queries in the Booleam information retrieval system ; (i) the short-circuit evaluation scheme used for optimizing logical expressions in programming lan-guages is applied to Boolean queries.(II) use the difference of the number of index word frequencies appearing in the related documents. (IIi) reduce the number of operators in the queries by applying the distribution law in the set theory. (iv) evaluate only once for the repeated expressions in the query. These methods have been implemented and tested in KRISTAL-II system on the UNIX workstation environment.
