There have been many studies about the chemical corrosion of converter's refractories. However, few studies have been reported for the stress corrosion induced by the weight of the refractories and by the two bottom shape models designed for the converter. In this study, the stress distributions of the two converter models were analyzed by FEM. Model 1 has the step edge shape and model 2 has the round edge shape. Simulation results show that model 2 of round bottom edge has higher gravitational stress just below the slag line than the model 1. Model 2 is considered to suffers more serious corrosion than model 1 during the middle working stage by the thermal and chemical factors.
The roof structural model of liquid manure storage tank was designed to improve a structural safety and an ability of resistance to corrosion by the bad environmental condition with high humidity and high gas concentration. Due to corrosion of a general steel, the 5 years used materials were reduced to one-third of a new material in the result of a bending strength test. Some structural materials were tested to evaluate a strength and an anti-corrosion, and stainless steel pipe (STS439), steel angle with zinc hot dipping, rectangular steel pipe covered with FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) resin were selected finally. A stainless steel is more expansive about $3{\sim}5$ times than general structural steel. But its durability under heavy corrosive environment is expected twice as long as general steel. The roof models were designed as closed cone type for each of the three structural materials. In the result of a FEM (Finite Element Method) structural analysis for the developed models, the safe snow depth was higher 2.3 times than a general roof structure, when elements of equal section modulus were used.
Rebar corrosion in a simulated pore solution (SPS) with chloride ion was analyzed by Tafel and AC impedance method and corrosion effects of surface roughness and iron oxide layer were also investigated. Corrosion estimation of rebar by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is very useful, and the measured value can be adapted to proposed electrochemical equivalent circuit model. Corrosion potential increased to the cathodic direction as the concentration of chloride ions increased and corrosion current had the same tendency as above. Surface films were analyzed with scanning electron microscope and Auger electron spectroscopy. Thermally oxidized layer by torch flame for 15 sec was very poor at anti-corrosive property. The corrosion rate of rebar increased as the surface roughness increased. Also, higher temperatures above RT of SPS in initial stage caused a rebar to be corroded faster.

Heat pump systems based on ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems use the temperature difference between deep ocean water and surface ocean water to operate. However, they may have heat transfer degradation due to corrosion on the heat exchanger surface due to the salinity of sea water. This study presents experimental results for the heat transfer decrease of corroded metal tubes with respect to corrosion time. In order to replace high-priced titanium, electro-deposition (ED) coating was performed on aluminum tubes. Aluminum tubes with ED coating thicknesses of 10, 15, and $20{\mu}m$ were tested for double-tube heat exchangers after performing accelerated corrosion for 6, 12, and 18 weeks. The effects of the coating thickness and the corrosion time on the heat transfer degradation were investigated. From the results, the aluminum tube with an ED coating of $20{\mu}m$ thickness can be suggested as a candidate for replacing titanium tubes.

Recently, it is really concerned about corrosion and aging of reinforced concrete bridges. Corrosional steel reinforcing in concrete affects not only safety of bridges structure but also bending strength of reinforced concrete's member. Rate of corrosion, characteristic of bending strength, and economical evaluation aren't clear in reinforced concrete, considering performance evaluation. The purpose of study is as follows. It studies about ability of resistance's strength and cost of life cycle according to reduction of steel reinforcing's corrosion. Moreover, it shows calculating formula of bending strength with corrosion of current rate and exactly evaluates about the rest life at corrosional reinforced concrete bridges.
Corrosion behavior of steel reinforcements embedded in concrete containing various chloride ion concentrations was investigated by an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS). Chloride ions were introduced into the concrete by dissolving the NaCl and $CaCl_2$ in the water with a given weight of cement. Based on the impedance parameters measured by EIS, more complete equivalent circuit, a schematic physical model, and the mechanism of concrete reinforcement corrosion were suggested. By the implement of experimental impedance parameters obtained from the model with corresponding CNLS-fitting data, the corrosion rate of steel reinforcement with chloride ions could be predicted.

The accurate estimation of water pipe deterioration is indispensable to prevent pipe breakage and manage in advance. In this study, corrosion of water pipe is adopted, which is relatively underestimated although it takes most part of deteriorating pipeline. Predicting corrosion rate and corrosion depth of a pipe can make an increase the life span of the pipeline, which is laid under the ground according to characteristics of soil and water corrosion. For the purpose, mathematical models that can presume nominal depth through estimation of pit corrosion and corrosion rate is introduced. As comparison of results with conventional methods in other foreign countries, it is evaluated that the external corrosion depth is estimated less than the models, proposed by other researchers and the internal corrosion rate was processed faster than the external corrosion rate.

In this study the prediction model of Chloride Ion progress rate of concrete using steel powder as an addition is developed, in which the reduction of not only the diffusion rate of $Cl^-$ but also the corrosion rate by replenishment of pore by corrosion products. The model is based on the diffusions of $Cl^-$ and its reaction with $Fe^{2+}$, in chloride attack progression region. The model can also explain the characteristics of chloride ion permeation resistance of concrete that the matrix is densified due to corrosion products. The prediction by the model agreed well the experimental data in which the concrete using steel powder, and it showed the lower rate in long-term age to Chloride Ion progress rate than the concrete without steel powder. Consequently the model can predict Chloride Ion progress rate of concrete exposed in the atmosphere regardless of the water-to-cement raito, the amount of the content of steel powder, etc.
An electrochemical transient response technique was used to study the corrosion of reinforcing steel bar in the concrete. Analysis of the transient electrochemical potential response in a corrosion interface to an applied current has enabled the separate components that make up the measured transient response to be isolated. These components display a range of resistances and capacitances, dependent on the corrosion conditions of the reinforcing steel, which may be attributed to the corrosion process, to effects within the concrete cover or to film effects on the surface of the concrete. In this technique, the corrosion rate was evaluated by summing all of the resistances in the separate components to obtain an aggregated corrosion resistance. However, it is possible that not all resistances identified are associated with the corrosion process. The results obtained show that the corrosion rates are significant dependent on the assignment of the separate components to either corrosion or to other processes. The assignment of resistive components associated with the corrosion rate can be clearly identified by taking a series of the transient measurement at different lateral distances from the corroding reinforcing steel. An inappropriate selection of measurement time however may result in an additional resistance, which is not associated with corrosion, being included or part of the resistance associated with corrosion being left out.
